Brilliant, we could even think about some more athletics stuff if we can steal any more Jamaicans :p
I really like these games though.

We met Nick Rogers and Ben Ainslie a couple of years ago, they live in my hometown :D

To be honest, I think we will do alright in the athletics when we get to London.

These last few years have been a "shifting distance period". In the 70's and 80's the men were pretty good at the middle distance events. 90's were the sprints but in 2012 it will be the women in the 400, 800 and 1500 that will shine.

EDIT:

USA men's 4x100m relay... Oops

Nicole Cooke was great on the women's road race. Whenever I see the Beijing race course, I get chills. Start in Beijing, past Mao's mausoleum, through the country side, up the great wall, back down the wall. .. wow. In the rain, no less. I don't think there's a better place in the world to have a road race.

I love the GB (why isn't it UK?) team logo, btw.

Oh dear! UK and USA out of the mens 4x100m!

I'm not sure. I think UK would actually be more accurate as that would include Northern Ireland (who I think are part of the team), whereas GB refers only to the main island of Britain...

and now the USA women's team

our official team is Great Britain and Northern Ireland

You're talking about the bolt 200? That's being broadcast during primetime right?
I thought that it was the 100(?) where he blew away the competition while Michael Johnson was watching with a mouth open in a shock sort of expression and then was very happy to see the result.

Here is the YouTube video.

Regardless 100 or 200, it was fun to see Michael Johnson's expression and comments after Bolt's WR run. :)

I think it should be a drinkers' triathlon: darts, dominoes and shove-ha'penny. That would sort the men from the boys. And the women from the girls too, I expect.

Just reading the Dallas News today. A question came up and no one near me could answer. Why are athletes flying home from Beijing? Personally, I'd rather stay there at the village and watch some games. Besides, why fly home? Spend those long hours on a plane coming home for a day or two, then fly back for the closing ceremony? Or are they skipping it?

Large crowd welcomes Nastia

My guess, their commercial sponsors want them to make appearances and such while their name recognition is sky high.

Yeah, and it's always easier to work with them in person than over communications methods. And they are certainly not going to send several PR reps and other support crew over to Beijing just so the athlete and stay there unless there's a good reason for it.

It must be truly charming to be a "commodity".

Yo, how much of a commodity would you be willing to be if you want to be funded/paided, given a free sports car, etc. ;)

And Nastia? Man, she's a major hottie too! And that helps as a marketing good! Gotta feed the fire while it's "hottest"! I'm sure she's great with it considering this will be good exposure for her entertainment career aspirations.

Wow. I can't believe that the mens and womens relay both dropped the baton. Unbelievable.

nastia may have to go back to beijing to collect two gold medals if it turns out the chinese girl was too young.

This has not been proven yet. It will most likely not be proven as China is a communist country and The Party Is Never Wrong. Also, the IOC has known about these allegations for months and has done nothing.

teamGB have officially achieved the stretch medal target of 41 medals with gold in the K1 1000m mens canoeing. That is not even counting the 3 medal that are guaranteed in the boxing.

Well, they've just asked for an investigation into it, so we'll see.

I thought it was an independent body that's investigating?
We'll find out the truth, but the Chinese Government won't let their citizens onto it.

I doubt we will find out the truth. The FIG are the ones investigating this on the behest of the IOC. If you read any statements by them, they are all to content to accept "government documents" as proof. What good is a document by an unbiased government? They can be (and in my opinion have been) made to say whatever they want.

From here,

Earlier this month, the AP found registration lists previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China that showed both He and Yang were too young to compete. He was born Jan. 1, 1994, according to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 registration lists. Yang was born Aug. 26, 1993, according to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 registration lists. In the 2007 registration list, however, her birthday has changed to Aug. 26, 1992.

The problem is that China will censor their citizens, and the IOC and FIG will be too spineless too pursue it further. They will be all to happy to accept documents from a government who has a history of manipulating the truth.
