I'm not trying to listen to music. I'm trying to use my Apple Maps as GPS AND charge my phone on long road trips. My car does not have navigation system or bluetooth. Bluetooth receivers absolutely suck in my experiences and cuts in/out or just flat out don't work. I can either (1) not use navigation in my car because I can't hear the navigation directions over my radio [this is fixed when my phone is connected to aux] or (2) be lost because my phone died trying to use navigation.

So get a Bluetooth receiver. They are $15 on Amazon. I use one in my beater (2001 Durango with an AUX input). This is not very difficult. That way you can actually go wireless when you aren't charging. Even the cheap Bluetooth receivers are generally very good.

There are hundreds of them on the market. You're talking about a problem that is very easily fixed.

You do realize that it's 2016 now, right? Why not just complain because Apple doesn't give you a free adapter to work on 8-track?

Also, sorry, but if you don't have a car newer than one from 2007, then perhaps spending $650+ on a brand new iPhone 7 shouldn't be your priority right now.

Not sure if I missed part of this reply but I have a 2012 and I don't have bluetooth OR a built in navigation system. This is why I need the Aux/3.5 mm port.

So, everyone who doesn't have the same use case as you can go screw themselves, is that it? Nice point of view. I listen and charge at the same time quite often. Do I not matter? Should I be punished for doing something differently than you?

Yes. A small minority of people should not stand in the way of making a product better overall.

Enjoy your dongle.

You should wait until someone releases an adapter that has both a Lightning pass-through and a 3.5mm jack. To assume this is all the solution you're going to get is defeatist. We have a couple of weeks before you're likely to have an iPhone 7 in your hands, though, so feel free to wring them some more.
I personally don't care because I don't intend to get an iPhone 7. I'm waiting for the next version. But I can see how someone in this scenario would be annoyed by the awkwardness of multiple dongles and adapters.

In my post I said my experiences with bluetooth receivers have not been good. This has been tried and tested many times and most of the time it cuts in/out and just flat out don't work. I have tried more than a handful. Since you have had great experiences care to recommend a specific one? I agree this is a problem that can be easily fixed and I am not against it. Just haven't had any luck with it.

EDIT -- see you answered in a post above... catching up on replies thx

A dongle plugged into a dongle eh? My current phone doesn't require any dongles at all.

This progress business sure is confusing.
This phone doesn't require any dongles either. (Except for charging, just like your current phone.) Your headphones don't have to even be connected to the phone.

The dongle problem is only a problem when you try to use antiquated tech with the new iPhone.

This one has never, ever cut out on me. Not on 6 hour trips, not on 30 minute trips. It always connects to my phone the second I turn the car on.

I have this in my beater and a few friends of mine use it in their cars. Zero issues. :)

If we get wireless charging on the iPhone "8" then this problem goes away.

Apparently not, according to all the people who are charging their phones with their headphones plugged in while driving. Remember, you'll still need to get a wireless charger for you car.

I feel like people are making a mountain out of an molehill now, looking for excuses to complain about something that will be inconsequential in their everyday lives. I think there's a bigger issue there for some of these people than just a missing headphone jack TBH.

Not that I'm defending the other person's post, because it was narrow minded and silly, but do you really feel like a multi-billion dollar company is punishing you? Or is it more like they're doing whatever they think will make money, and that thing isn't lining up with what you want? Punish just seems like a weird word to describe your relationship with Apple. To me, at least.

Good for you, so now you just troll Apple sites in your spare time?

Nope, I get to give my opinion on an Apple product line I've used for many years. Same as you. If you want to live in an isolated bubble, why are you on an internet forum at all?

First world problems, frankly.

Is the Lightning-equipped EarPod antiquated tech then?

It's just when you buy an iPhone 7 you have a charging cable and Lightning equipped EarPods in the box.

And we're back at square one.

Not catering to a small minority of consumers is not "narrow minded and silly". It's literally how most companies operate. Apple clearly researched this enough to understand that not many people charge and listen at the same time.

And if they didn't do enough research? Their sales will suck and they'll re-think the position. That's how business works.

Like their use cases have drifted from Apple's product line and they should probably be looking at other products to suit their needs better but they apparently don't want to do that? Because that's how a lot of this comes off to me too.

LOL, liar!

A headphone jack doesn't impede anything at all. Get off the forums if youre going to spread this kind of false bull.

I'm not lying.

Moving to android would eliminate tons of cross device integration that I depend on everyday. From encrypted text conversations with my family that are automatically and simultaneously existent on all my devices, to notes, calendars, documents, contacts, and settings that all move seamlessly between my iPhone, iPad, Macs, and AppleTVs, to being able to airdrop large groups of files (eg. photographs) without having to depend on kludgy, non-built-in solutions, ... all these things would either disappear or be greatly impacted by a move away from iPhone. My AirPlay speakers in the garage would be useless, as would the entertainment system in my basement.

Switching from an iPhone to Android may be nothing more than an insular shift for someone that treats their phone as an isolated device, but that's really missing the point of today's technology.

He's actually wrong. 83% are wired. However, the rate of Bluetooth sales / profits are going way up. And this was before the iPhone was officially announced.

I suggest you look up the definition of the word "lie" before you start throwing the word around. Some research would do you well, but I'm not sure you're competent enough.

I know what lying means, kid. I'm very used to people trying to propagate their own bull **** because they're afraid of having people calling them out on their ****.

Spending $40 to regain previous functionality is absurd. If you think differently, you're clouded and also being absurd. This is a poor decision. The jack will return for iPhone 8.

They're not trying to avoid wireless...they're just waiting until the market comes out with wireless headphones/earbuds that aren't garbage.

I have a pair of JayBird X2 headphones that I use while working out. Definitely not garbage.

Also, I haven't had a chance to try the AirPods yet, but if they sound as decent as the normal EarPods that ship with modern iPhones, I'll be happy with those for non-workout situations.

In other words, there's lots of options already available today.

Your original post was too brief and rudely worded. It came off as narrow minded and silly. This response is much better. Be sure what you write communicates what you intend.

Maybe THIS will end the crying.

Had you even read the thread to that point?

I'm really wondering about the people who regularly charge their phone while listening to music. Maybe I just have no idea how these mobile devices are meant to operate but... how often are you actually in a position where you need to charge AND need to be connected to a wired audio device?

On weekend mornings I tend to do A LOT of cooking. I set my phone on the counter and AirPlay to my TV. Sometimes I do this for like four hours. Then I go about my day and my phone is fine. My battery is fine. My three-year-old 5s is all good. I charge before I go to sleep. Even if you replace AirPlay with a wired speaker... it's the same thing.

This feels like a lot of complaining to complain about some activity you might do basically never and how there should be contingencies around that rather than focusing on something as mundane as everyday use.

Do I have some magical battery or something? Have I had a magical battery on my last three phones? It seems to me that if you are in regular need of charging and playing music, you're not a typical use case and that's what adapters are for. Additionally, if you need to charge AND listen to music you're at a desk or something. You're not running so you won't be "jumping rope" or any of the other absurdities I hear around here.

I really don't get it. I just don't.

Apple is not reading these forums and they don't care if you're "giving Android a closer look" because the number of people that care about this adapter and have what you're describing as an everyday use scenario are a tiny fraction of the user base. For every one person who wants this adapter there are many more that will buy this phone based on the camera alone or, hell, just to be that person with the newest iPhone.
