It doesn't have to be something I do every day, just something I do sometimes that makes it important to me to be able to both listen wired and charge my phone.

Why should all of us have to hang around and wait to accommodate something you maybe do sometimes? If you have a vague use case like "sometimes I'm on a long international flight" then just buy the adapter.

People need to calm down about the audio jack removal. I mean, who is really crazy... the one who removed an ancient connector from their modern pocket computer, or the one who bought analog headphones for $350 now screaming and shoking... jeez.

1.- Don't tell people what to do.
2.- The wheel is also ancient technology, maybe we should remove that too?
3.- Why do I need an adapter when before I had the same functionality?
4.- Ancient connector that works better than the "current" solution. That's is not innovation, that's inconvenience.

It will work just fine for the target use case. The vast majority of people, despite the whiners out there, don't sit there with a phone plugged in and headphones on. They don't sit in a hallway and watch movies in a phone with the plug in the wall. They aren't on international flights every day. They don't go to rooftop parties and then hook up a charging pack and the put in headphones to "escape" from the electronic music.

They charge their phones while they sleep, then they go to their jobs, and if they listen to headphones it's while walking or at the gym about 99% of the time. If they drive, they usually have a car with either Bluetooth or USB. It really is time to move on and stop acting like this is the end of the world .

I agree that the removal of the headphone jack isn't that big of a deal...but your logic is flawed here.

I charge my phone while using headphones.
I sit with my headphones on while being plugged into a wall.
I fly at least 1-2 times a month.

And I do go to rooftop parties with a power bank, though I don't use headphones to 'tune' the music out, I probably will want to play my music via AUX through the speakers.

With all that said I'll be getting a 7 Plus with a new set of Bluetooth headphones.

And, NO, buying an Adele CD at Target or playing around on Garage Band a few times 5 years ago doesn't make you an "audiophile" any more than having spent hundreds on a single pair of high-end headphones when you were trying to impress someone. Almost no one has those, either.

Blah, blah, blah....

I'm sitting at my desk right now listening to music on my phone while it charges and using my computer to actually work. A couple of hours of gaming drain my phone, it won't get through the day without charging while I work.

For completeness, I'm not an audiophile but I can easily tell my Bose SoundSports or QC25s from cheap bundled headphones.

I wonder if you could use this and plug your iPhone into a car's headunit while your earbuds are plugged in?

Just plug the headphones to the computer.......:S

If only they could integrate two separate ports (one for audio, one for charging) into the device itself. Now THAT would "show courage" ;-)

[e.g. every other iPhone / smartphone to date bar the iPhone 7].

This is a complete fail. Apple needs to offer something as simple as a pass through connector on the Lightning cable included in the box.

In either event, I wouldn't buy this until we see an unboxing to know what Apple has included.

Good, now I can jump rope down the street.

Do you also carry the massive extension cable needed to charge your phone from an outlet while going down the street?

Really... If you are charging and listening, you're not walking anyway. And if you're using an external battery then this won't make much difference as you already have a hassle as to where to put the battery while you're walking.

It doesn't have to be something I do every day, just something I do sometimes ...

Pretty much the same argument made when they removed optical drives from the MBP. And yes, for those rare occasions I need an optical drive, I use an external one. But 99% of the time, I'm better off not having it take up space.

A ridiculous adapter for ridiculous necessities with a ridiculous price.

Perfect for those people infected with FUD

Oh, I'm calm. Calmly enjoying my Note 7 (I'd be calmer if it wasn't the exploding model, but it'll be swapped soon enough).

Actually, it's because of the jack that I bought the Note 7, but wow, Apple is living in the stone age. The Edge Panels alone are worth leaving Apple's ecosystem. Not to mention the gorgeous screen.

Phil is right, everyone should have the courage to give the note 7 or s7 a test drive. I'll never own another iPhone.

My s7 edge is easily the worst android phone I've ever owned. Touchwiz is terrible. Nexus is the only way to go

True but the ones who are crying the hardest are saying "OMG I spent $XXXXX" on some outlandish headphones as if

a) most others did that
b) the headphones suddenly don't work now
If you spent a lot on a nice set of headphones, 9 bucks for the adapter is dirt cheap....so they still work ;)

How many people even have a radio that has an aux jack? How many people use it? How many people don't have usb port in their car or bluetooth audio?

Edit: also, I'm sure someone will come out with cable with headphone jack and charging port. But I still argue that this is a super small group of people.
You do realize that most cars made before 2007 did not have a USB port or Bluetooth right? So super small? No. I would wager at least 50% of the population.

A somewhat similar thing happened with the switch to Lightning on the iPhone 5.

Suddenly... tens of millions of 30-pin speaker docks were "obsolete"

What ever happened to all those? I mean... it was A LOT of speaker docks. Did they just end up in the trash?

We never hear about them anymore.

A proprietary connector to a proprietary connector that didn't force a charge or something else situation on its users.

I actually backed the switch to Lightning because it's a totally different scenario.
