How many people even have a radio that has an aux jack? How many people use it? How many people don't have usb port in their car or bluetooth audio?

Edit: also, I'm sure someone will come out with cable with headphone jack and charging port. But I still argue that this is a super small group of people.
I have an expensive kenwood touchscreen radio that I bought right before the lightning port was introduced, and support for lightning was never added as a firmware update for the radio. The radio also doesn't have bluetooth support (which at the time didn't matter to me because I could just plug my phone in with USB and be good to go). I use the aux jack in my car every single day to listen to music when I'm driving. Is it time for me to update my radio? Maybe. Should I avoid kenwood in the future for not supporting an expensive radio? Hell yes. Am I just irritated in general about this entire situation? Of course. The continued money to support things sucks. My PA/sound systems also will require adaptors to play music here at home if/when I choose to upgrade my iPhone.

So removing the jack is not removing wires - it's creating more! More adapters. Just wrong, wrong, wrong Apple. But hey, a fantastic commercial decision for Lightning licences!

Except for MacBook and a very few other laptops, -C is slow getting traction.

1 reason is the 100w max power capacity, which is less than "pro" level laptops need.

Still need a USB-C adapter dongle to use all the USB peripherals, anyway.
USB is backwards compatible. You can buy USB-C to USB-A cables for $5 no adapter needed.

Yeah, no. Hopefully someone will come out with a compact Lightning pass-through adapter that simply splits off audio into a 3.5mm jack. There's no reason it has to be as big as this monstrosity.

For me it is a great and needed solution. I use phone at my desk on conference calls that last all day sometimes. I need to be able to charge my phone while using headphones. I don't care about many cables for that use. can use to charge the new buds case and the phone at same time also which will be good.

Question for this situation: are these calls unable to be executed through VoIP/Skype for Business?

Small traction....until Apple goes all USB-c and we see a repeat of the complains.

As said progress needs time.... soon the jack will be removed from everything and dongles will be a thing of the past.....as will USB a to c adapters..

Did Apple really think this through? How many adapters do I need to carry now! Guess once the 7S comes out with wireless charging and wireless headphones the problem will be addressed!!!!! ;)

As a Mac user since 1999 (and currently still a mac user), I think I'll stay right here on MacRumors, thank you very much. For that matter, as a long-term iPhone user, I'll stay right here and voice my opinion about the steaming turd Apple is trying to pass off as their new iPhone.

I suggest you try moving to North Korea where people who have different opinions can be made to go away.

LOL... I'd buy you a round of beers for that. Brilliant.

If your phone is plugged in and charging, you definitely want to be wearing wireless headphones. That just seems obvious. You know, so you can get up from your desk or even just rotate your chair around to talk to someone.

Bluetooth headphones can be bought for $20 now. They will cost $10 in six months due to increased demand and economies of scale in manufacturing them. Better quality Bluetooth headphones will cost more, but I bet they drop in price by 10% every month. The lack of jack will be a non-issue in 12 months.

But, but..... "AUDIOPHILE!"

To be fair, this does answer the question posed a million times yesterday: "how do I charge my phone and listen to my wired headphones at the same time?"

Can we go back and delete those pointless posts?

As for people complaining about cost, relax. Monoprice will have a $15 version in no time.
Ah, Monoprice. A company who probably really doesn't like the prospect of a completely wireless device, but who will make a killing on adapters during the transition. :D

Yeah but that makes you like 0,0000001% of the iPhone users.....can't please them all.

I feel for you, but in that specific case a nice little MP3 player would save lots of headaches,.

There are a lot of use cases that might be rare individually, but when you add them up, the chances someone runs into an issue at least periodically is no longer small.

This move shows courage from Belkin...

Seriously, go f-yourself Apple. I'm on an Apple 6s Plus and it will be my last iPhone. I have had every iPhone since release, I wish I were joking but I'm not. I use the headphone jack every single day and at night I use it while charging my phone. Now I need to use 2 dongles to do the same thing. On top of that it will cost me $49 replace.

My other problem with this is that we are using an Apple only connector or an Apple only chip to make everything work seamlessly. So instead of trying to work on a universal standard you go and make it as proprietary as possible.

Also, remind me again what port I'm going to plug in these new lightning headphones on a Macbook? I see this all the time, people use those earpods on both Macbook and iPhone without the need for dongles.

Now EVERYONE is happy zero reason to ditch iOS
Tim had all the bases covered (as I said he would two months ago).
So now please lets move on and enjoy the fact we are living in without doubt the most exciting time in the history of the world..... well except

peace everyone, I'm over the moon, fantastic.

I didn't realize how aggressively mods deleted responses. On the first page, someone said, "Too bad I can't put moderators on the ignore list" in response to post #3. That was it - not that incendiary a response to a post that added little, but still removed.

Great, buy an adapter so we can use an adapter with the adapter ;) (3.5mm to lighting for us with "regular" headphones)
Oh, it's not so bad...

I have got a new iPhone every year since the three. This time i'm not. I charge my phone when I go to bed and I listen to podcasts.I won't pay for an adaptor to add features that have been removed this is a big misstep from apple after quite a few recently. This "courage" is stupidity the future may be wireless but that's not now.

So far almost all BT headphones have been crap, even the expensive ones. Some sound quite good but that's only if you can manage to pair them and keep them connected.

A lot of people have been burned by the experience and it is going to take a while to convince people.

I honestly think Steve would have realised this and stuck some wireless cans in the box. Not a usual stunt but because of how poor previous BT headphones have been. If the Air Pods were included and were a genuine game-changer, Apple kills the criticism on arrival.
