OS3 on my 1st gen is overall less fluid then OS2. Yes apps stay in memory but scrolling and such is rather jerky. Does series 1/2 have this issue?

Never owned an Apple Watch before and I picked up a 1st gen space black stainless 42mm with milanese loop from my local Best Buy for $249 yesterday. Immediately upgraded it to watchOS 3 and it feels pretty quick to me, but maybe that's because I'm coming from a first gen Moto 360 which is probably the slowest smart watch of all time. Ultimately I decided that I wanted the stainless steel, sapphire, milanese loop, and $50-$150 savings more than I wanted the faster processor of the Series 1 or new features of the Series 2. The milanese loop actually costs $200 by itself, so worst case scenario, if I decided to get a series 2 later, I would only be out an additional $50. But I don't think I will be tempted to upgrade to the Series 1 or 2. I think this will easily hold me until Series 3 next year.

How'd you get the 42 for 249? Isn't it 349?

Got lucky I guess. Best Buy had it priced at $249 yesterday, but I don't even see it on the Best Buy website any more so it must be completely sold out now. I do see the 38mm black stainless with milanese for $349. Not sure why it's more as it should be cheaper than the 42mm. Clearance deals don't always make sense.

No, they're not open box. But they're very limited. I tried yesterday and couldn't get one shipped to a nearby store or to me.

i saw that last night and it gives me pause about keeping my series 2.... but it IS noticeably faster!

Imagine the difference the speed bump will make while we progress in wOS's. if I remember correctly the OG iPhone didn't get support as long as the 3G and beyond have seen. Apple stops supporting the phone with iOS updates after 3 years I think it is and the OG iPhone only got 2. Don't quote me, but the point is the OG AW won't hold up long as new features are added to the os while the dual core will push for a bit longer.

With this thinking and the fact that I haven't used a watch in a decade I decided to try the first version in the cheap model. This time around I got the black SS with link. ALL IN!

I'd have to think apple wouldn't do that with the watch. people don't update watches now and days like they do their phones.

I think back to how soon the original iPad became unsupported, and how long in comparison the iPad 2 kept going with regular updates. It'll be the same deal with S0 and S1/2. False economy to buy an S0 now.

Maybe, but I have both generations right now, and there isn't a huge difference in performance. Yes, it's faster, but it's not that much better.

I would have loved to have got that $249 Milanese black 42mm. Why not? If you want the band, $50 for a Series 0.

Apple sure has a good relationship with Best Buy. They use them for clearance as well as sales all the time.

I snagged what I think was the last space black SS w/ link bracelet for $350. I'm excited about it but I hope I wont regret 38mm. I wear a suit every day and heard the smaller one looks better in a professional setting so we'll see.

Question - do you think there is a possibility that bands wont be compatible with next year's watch? I'd be pretty upset if I couldn't use this band going forward and I'm sure many others would be too.

Anything is possible but I fully expect Apple to rep the standard going. There's a lot of material they could theoretically remove and still keep the bands the way they are.

If Apple goes a year and s half again it won't be until early 2018 that we see another Watch though! I wouldn't swear it but in also not one to dump money into bands.

It seems these watches come back in stock occasionally. I was able to order the SS link bracelet for $250 this afternoon (it said "check store" earlier) in addition to the SB one I got last night.

It's really crazy how you can get the watch AND the band for less than the price of the band itself. I guess they probably couldn't sell a lot of 38mm w/ link bracelets.

Now the question is which one to keep...

Nice. I think you'll end up keeping the SB. It's just so sleek. Did you get applecare?

Nope. I usually just rely on my credit card extended warranty. Also, wore an aluminum 38mm for a year and haven't had any accident yet (knock on wood).

I really like the SB, too. I would definitely choose it if I have to dress up for work like you. The only problem is that it is really hard to find leather bands (like the classic buckle) that come with matching space black hardware.

What is really crazy is that Best Buy takes the aluminum 38mm for $125 at trade in. So I basically upgraded to SS for $25 more than the price of the Classic Buckle I got. And at $300, the buckle isn't even the best deal. I'm lucky cause I have very small wrists, so I've always had 38mm.

Don't know why I never considered the traditional stainless steel but it looks great on my hand with my polished white gold wedding band. Very nice to finally have the Watch that all bands are made for.

For anyone on the fence because of the new watches... the reason I got this is because I'd already traded in my old aluminum and upgraded to Series1 for the speed boost. The battery was very inconsistent though and could barely get me through the day without using any apps. Never had a problem on the original. No way the Series1 would have made it through a day with a workout or turn by turn directions in the car. In the end, I saw no point to a speed boost if using apps would kill the battery so quickly.

Now that I'm back on this gen0, I'm honestly not even seeing a difference for the basic things I do.

For $249, you can get: Apple - Apple - Apple Watch (first-generation) 42mm Space Black Stainless Steel Case - Space Black Milanese Loop Band - Space Black Milanese Loop Band

And here I am, paying $549 for my Series II, Stainless Steel Space Black, with a Sport band!!! Ugh, all to have the latest technology. Frustrating (Yes, I know I could simply not buy it, but...)

where is it $249? i just got that one for $349.

I wish I could deal with a 38mm, the space black with link for 349 is tempting. I have pretty small wrists but I think I'd not be happy with 38 but it sure is tempting!

been thinking getting the 38mm w/ link for the wife and sell the link and just get her a 3rd party band or sport.
