I thought they started Friday night, but the white sheet that they gave me as a reserve ticket says "Effective 3/12/11" at the bottom right corner.. I did mine on Saturday afternoon and I was first for my model, so maybe they did start Saturday.

I'm in for #2 at El Segundo's Best Buy...no calls yet =[

Reserved at BB on Sunday and there were 80 people on the list in front of me. The BB employee claimed they were allocated 150 iPad 2s that would be used to fill the reservations and that the 150 were coming in this week. I called there today, and no iPads have come in since the first batch they received.

Did you get a call? What time did you get a call? What store are you at? (Sorry for the long line of questions... haha)

Yes i did . I reserved it on Sat & they called me this morning at about 11:30. Picked it up shortly after that.

This was at the BB in Commack, NY

Best Buy will no longer be taking deposits for iPads, no idea when they plan to start taking them again.
The Best Buys I saw pretty much had a binder with all preorders shoved in there. So based on how disorganized they seem to be with this preorder thing then I'm guessing they aren't planning on bringing it back.

Wait, been reading some of these posts and it seems that BB is keeping the form that's filled with my name/number. When I reserved my unit they gave me the paper and said I need to bring it back when I get called. Have I been duped?

Add me to the list... I'm between #15 and 20 at my local bbuy here in MD, but I called them today and said they might not be getting in any for a couple of weeks... which would really suck as I'm going on vacation next week and I'd really like an iPad for the flight over! Crossing my fingers (and toes) that I can get one before next Thurs/Friday!

Did they make a copy? Some stores have been doing copies for the customer. It is not something you need but if they didn't keep a copy they screwed up.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'm SOL as no copy was made. The employee by the iPad kiosk grabbed a couple forms (I 'ordered' two) and had me put my name/number on each and go to the front cashier. That cashier scanned the forms and entered my info into the system and handed the form back to me. I should of known something was up as I had to put my name/number on the form and yet it was given back to me. Oh well, I'll head there this weekend and just get my money back. I found one at Target today (for my daughter) and will hold out for the online Apple order to go thru for the other unit (ETA 4/6).

I'm jealous though. My 5 yo daughter is having a blast with her new iPad and I'm stuck here staring at her waiting for mine lol.

hmmm... I made my reserve on monday and they stapled together the white sheet with the picture of the iPad, giftcard, and a long receipt showing I reserved the WiFi Black 32GB. They asked for my number and email address and entered it into the computer. They said they will call and email when it comes in. I hope that white blank sheet that I have wont interfere with the reserve. Ill be pissed if that's the case.

On a side note, customer service said they had a team meeting that morning that their store will start taking in reserve orders. Hopefully i'm high up in the list. :)

Same here, I believe they were disorganized and didn't realize that they determine the order thru the white sheets.

Thought I'd share my experience with the BB reservation system.

I went in yesterday, to ask if I could find out how long the reservation list was. Surprisingly, the sales rep was very nice and said "no problem".

At this particular BB, the reservations were being taken at the Web Order pickup booth, which was located behind the cashier line.

The rep asked which model (64GB Wifi Black) and she opened up a 3 inch binder. To find out what number I would be on the list, she simply counted the pages and told me I would be 4th in line.

She took down my name and phone number on the prefilled form which was clearly labeled 64GB Wifi Black. Filed my page right in line with the others and mentioned, your iPad will never hit the sales floor and that I would have 24 hours to pick up the iPad once called. This BB had yet to receive their second shipment.

I also asked which unit was most popular for reserves to which she said, 16GB Wifi.

To complete the process, she did enter information into the BB computer system. It prompted the 100.00 dollar gift card payment and I was handed both the gift card and sales receipt for the transaction.

My understanding is that you can cancel your reservation, but the 100 dollar gift card can not be refunded.

Hope this information helps!

I have read that you can cancel the reservation and get a refund on the giftcard, check the BB administrator's post in this thread... I am certainly hoping so since it doesn't seem like I'm going to get my iPad from bb anytime soon!

You can DEFINITELY 100% get the gift card refunded (as long as you did not use it, obviously). Any Best Buy that states different is lying or mistaken. Call corporate and they will set it straight.

That process makes 100% sense/logic. Unfortunately, some of us were sent home with the form that was supposed to be put in queue. Which means that even if they finished the whole queue, they'll likely start putting new orders out on the floor before calling us up. Understandable mistake, but means I have to go into the store to hand them the form, which likely will go to the end of the folder (though ideally, they should put it in front as the timestamp of the receipt shows I ordered mine early).

Can't pre-order anymore but more imp, hate the fact that BB wants you to get a gift card and not refund money if we don't keep the iPad. That's nuts. Called 2 stores and they said the same. Ordered at Apple. Atleast I can get a full refund.

They absolutely will refund the gift card. If the people on the phone Tell you otherwise ask to speak to a manager because it specifically says that gift cards are refundable and even describes the process on how to do it.
