Just out of curiosity. Does "Best Buy will also offer customers the opportunity to reserve their iPad 2 for in-store pick-up beginning on March 12" mean that people that don't get one today can pre-order today for pick-up starting tomorrow? Or does that mean that people can come in tomorrow and pre-order for pick-up later?

I would assume the second option, because I can't imagine them getting in a new shipment tomorrow. But just wanted to clarify that.

No, this means you CANNOT pre order for in store ship on March 11th.

You can start ordering ipad STARTING on March 12th for in store pick up.

In a nut shell. You pay them a $100 refundable deposit to have it shipped to the store starting march 12th and you will probably have to wait 1-2 weeks for your order to come in.

It's worth it to buy at Best Buy if you like to collect points for reward zone or you have reward certificates/best buy certificates or don't have an apple store close by.

Right, but since there is a deposit, I'm pretty sure it's still a matter of going into the store to do the pre-order. I doubt that's the same as ordering online for in-store pickup.

I read earlier somewhere that Best Buys were expecting a second shipment for Saturday sales. I'll have to go see if I can find that article.

I started off wanting the 64 GB white Verizon 3G ipad with Tan smart cover from the apple store, now my plan has switched to 64 GB Black AT&T 3G iPad with no smart cover (maybe a black one down the line) from best buy.

I like the idea of going to apple better especially for after care support/returns, etc but with something so expensive I don't wanna pass up the reward zone points. Plus I don't wanna be lured into picking up a dock, smart cover and those sweet B&W P5's.

Luckily there's 2 Best Buys, 2 Targets, 3 Walmarts and an Apple store on my way home from work so I'm betting I'll find one somewhere.

Called the North Haven, CT Best Buy at 10:30. "We're getting a big truck." Said they are giving out tickets at 1pm, but expect a line for tickets. No line so far, she said. Rain is my friend.

I emailed the GM of my local BB this morning and he replied stating they will be doing the ticketing system starting at 4:30pm today. I sent another reply asking about quantities but no response so far. I plan on heading out around 2:30pm to the store since it is only 10-12 min away and see what things look like.

Do these lines form inside the store where the apple products are? I have never been to one of these before.

Will best buy have the smart covers today?

Yes, but not all colors

if by big truck they meant UPS then probably. Can't remember the last Apple product that wasn't direct shipped from UPS for a launch.

Got to our BB at ten till 10am, and no line. Gonna be in 50s today with sunshine. Just wondering if they will hand out vouchers earlier than 4:30pm.

Not feeling so confident now

Yesterday I was feeling pretty good about getting to my local Best Buy around 3:30-4:00 PM (earliest I can get there, gotta' work), and picking up a 64GB AT&T Model. today, after hearing about lines forming already, and the delivery dates getting further and further out on apple's site, I'm thinking that's just not going to be early enough. There are three Best buys within 10 miles of each other where I live, all with apple shops, so maybe I can get lucky at one of them. My only other option is to try the Best Buy near work, which I could get to around 3:00, and then fight the Friday rush-hour traffic all the way home.
Of course, a shiny new iPad2 would make the ride more enjoyable.

Nice! Funny to see someone else going to the North Haven store here.

Just got off the phone w/Best Buy at the Arboretum (Austin TX). Not giving out tickets. First come, first serve. They believe they will have a good selection of all models.

My plan

Just called my BB and she was very nice, told me that they had plenty of all models including the 3G. They will decide on tickets based on the size of the line.

No nuts standing in line yet....

I ordered online early this morning and all my items are ready to ship except for the iPad. I will go to my BB and try to get one there and if I do, I will cancel my iPad order online. I should be able to cancel it for the next 2-3 days.

My son and I just can't wait 8-10 days for it to show up.

Fellow Iowan here! :) You in Des Moines?? I'm not sure which one I'm gonna hit up- either the one on University WDM or Jordan Creek.. I'm not too concerned about stock issues.. I don't get off from work until 6pm so fingers crossed I can at least get one of the models!

Just called all the Best Buys... none would tell me how many they had, only that I should come wait in line (5+ hours). FINALLY reached one of the smaller ones, and the lady was almost surprised when I asked if they would run out. She calmly said they easily have 200 in stock.

Said I should come by at 5pm for my white 16gb.

guess i'll see how it goes over on the east coast. at least i got 3 extra hours to see if it's worth heading there a little early.

At least in our area, the reports from the local Apple stores seem to have fairly short lines. I'm hoping that translates into fairly short BB lines. I might swing by around 2pm to see if there is a line (I live a mile away from a Best Buy).

60 of each, or 60 total?

unfortunately there's only 1 BB in town where I'm at, no apple stores. Hoping for the best to get a black 64gb, though failing that the ipad1 can service me for a good long time.

Understand that delivery dates have pushed back b/c current production is now allocated for the March 25 launch. But Apple had a month+ to produce for this launch. There will be no shortage. The online allocation probably did sell out but that has little bearing on in-store stock levels. I think Apple well prepared.
