60 of each, or 60 total?

unfortunately there's only 1 BB in town where I'm at, no apple stores. Hoping for the best to get a black 64gb, though failing that the ipad1 can service me for a good long time.

60 total of the wifi only models. No 3G at my store.

Fellow Iowan here! :) You in Des Moines?? I'm not sure which one I'm gonna hit up- either the one on University WDM or Jordan Creek.. I'm not too concerned about stock issues.. I don't get off from work until 6pm so fingers crossed I can at least get one of the models!

Yes, nice to meet you. I will be going to the Waterloo BB. no line as of 11am, and am now in Barnes and noble looking at apps on my netbook :)

When they say they'll start taking reservations for in store pick up on March 12, do you think that means shortly after 12:00 am or when the stores open in the morning?

Since they say it requires a $100 deposit, I'm pretty sure it's going to be an in-store thing. So I'd say during normal business hours.

I guess I was thinking you might be able to put the deposit on a credit card online.

My local BB just said they only got 5 of each SKU. Not dealing with that mess. Target / Walmart time!!

Well there are 16 SKU's, so that would be 80. Still seems like a low number to me. I'd expect more like 200, if not more.

Have an issue with blanket statements like this. The idea that they will have the same amount of black and white 64 gb wifi, and 3G on both AT&T and big V as they do Black 16gb Wifi sounds like poor inventory control and distribution. Apple is insanely good at distribution and I doubt they had the factories pushing out equal numbers of all skus. Sounds to be your Best Buy is sick of answering and just making a statement to get you off the phone and in the store.

I guess it's possible. But you would think having your card on file would be enough. I don't think they can do that in store. But online would be my preference.

My friend is the GM.

Just got off the phone with the Best Buy at Norterra (Phoenix) and he said they have both colors on hand but couldn't tell me the quantities. He said they will not be getting the Verizon 64GB White model but will have all the others. They are starting a line at 2:00pm and will stand handing out tickets at 4:00-4:30.

This would be my preference, too. Hell, I don't mind paying up front if I can do in-store pickup. I'm hoping that works, but it relies on bestbuy.com flipping the switch on the website, which I'm not sure they will do.

They probably don't want hundreds of people flooding the website and ordering an iPad for in store pick up only to never show up. Requiring a $100 deposit and nothing else would insure that you show up or risk losing your money. I still might try to head over there in the morning and see what's available. I'd hate to get up and reserve one for in store pick up to get next week only to learn I could have gotten one if I had only showed up.

Same here in nyc 23 street. No line yet. Looks like I am 1st here. They have all skus but cannot disclose quantity. They also have all launch accessories, smart covers and all

my targets and walmarts failed me today when i called them, so i'm now going to my backup plan to head to best buy.

the woman said there was no one there yet and not many had been calling about it. they have the model i want and will hand out tickets around 4-4:30 so i'm gonna head there around 2:30 and see what the deal is, wait around, get my ticket then get my ipad 2. boy i can't wait for this ordeal to be over with.

They charge your card for the full value when you order for in-store pickup on the website, though. I'm really hoping that works, but the website sounded indeterminate as to when the iPads would be available for in-store pickup via the website.

The deposit though, tells me that they're planning on selling out, as you can't order for in-store pickup on the website if the store in question is out of stock. Bah.

Just stopped by my local BB. They said they will allow the line to start forming at 3pm, and start giving out tickets at that time. Nobody was there now. At all. I will drop by at 3 and get my ticket, then come back around 4:45 and grab one. I asked how many they would be getting, and he said, "Enough." I am feeling less stressed now.

Here's the latest from Arrowhead in Phoenix, AZ - dropped by there at 11am and talked to a Best Buy associate.

Nobody was in line. They'll be forming a line at 2pm, vouchers to go at 4:30, sale at 5pm. So I'll probably head back out and get in line at 2pm.

They were supposed to receive 2 shipments, they only received one of those shipments. That shipment does have every model from what he said though, and both Verizon & AT&T for the 3G ones.

I forgot to ask about Ghost Armor or SmartCovers though.

Normally yes, but you have the option to show up or not. If you never show up they'll put it back in stock. That might not work for an iPad. I could see them having trouble holding on to reserves with a chance nobody is coming for them. Perhaps instead of it showing at $499, it might show up as $100 refundable deposit. Then you'd have no choice but to show up or lose the $100. I just read there is over 100 people in line at both Apple Stores around our area. Hopefully people will keep going to them instead of to Best Buy.

One of the Best Buys in my area was already handing out tickets at 11a.m. I'm not sure why each store seems to be doing things differently, though I suppose manager discretion is involved with the ticketing system. I didn't plan to go to the store until around 4pm or so, but decided to get some things I need and am glad I did.

Give the tickets out early, and you don't have to manage a line in the middle of your store during business hours. People get their voucher and then go away until 4:30 or so instead of clogging up the aisles all day.

Heading out to my BB in 30 min. (2:00 local)

I live in an area where a large amount of the population is retirees, so I'm hoping to have no issue picking up a 16GB Wifi White
