I was 3rd in line at the L.A store 16GB black AT&T

I know that you're excited to get your new iPhone 5 and you can be sure we are as excited to sell it to you. You can be certain that we are working very hard to get you, as quickly as possible, the exact iPhone 5 model you pre-ordered. It could take as long as 28 days to find the iPhone you want. However, there is no doubt that the fact you pre-ordered a phone from Best Buy means you will be able to buy it before any consumer trying to find one on their own.

Trust us, we will be able to get you the phone you want – maybe not as fast as you might want, but likely as fast as anyone else at this point.

Southern California here, my store does appointment times. They are opening at 8:00am and I am scheduled to pick it up at 8:30am 64 black AT&T but they didn't get any 64 white AT&T so it's the same as other posters with not getting consistent inventory of all models.
 
Mine's delayed too

Just got the email. 64GB Black AT&T may not be available for up to 28 days.

Everyone needs to call there store before going in. Best buy phone line is saying they are not sure why the 28 day emails went out but they are not correct. Call the store to check to see if your phones there!!!
 
totally untrue.....

I just called and they are back ordered....says it could be 28 days for some models.
 
So is anyone going to BB tomorrow morning to try their luck?

In the parking lot as I type.. Store opens in an hour. It may be excessive, but I didn't pre order (didn't last year and went in @ 8 pm and got my 64 gb 4S). My best buy always gets decent amounts of everything, so fingers crossed.
 
I got 2 of those iPhone unavailable for up to 28 days emails last night at 1am. Then at 7am I got an email saying my 32GB VZN Black pre-order was ready for pickup. Just waiting on the 16GB Black VZN for my wife before I go in. I would hold out hope that you get the good email today.

I got this email too, for my White 16 AT&T. Also quoting "28 days". Wife's not happy. I pick up my black this evening, and she has to wait for her white...

Best Buy doesn't have my iPhone 5

Called this morning at 7:30 and they said they didn't have have my 64gb AT&T! I am really pissed as I was the first one there for the preorder last friday! When I preordered the employee never asked if my email address changed (as I purchase my iPhone 4 through presale before) and sure enough it did change, so I am worried they are only contacting through email and I will never get that email cause of the wrong email address. I have a feeling that Best Buy didn't get that many phones to begin with. I am so angry! Why would they have a presale if they can't supply a phone when it is released? And you wonder why Best Buy is having troubles. I'm in MN where the corporate offices are located and the store I preordered from is only 6 years old are all ready remodeling to there new store layout. I guess desperate times calls for desperate measures, I hope they go out of business! I should have just ordered form Apple.

They take preorders before they get the iPhone shipments... so they don't really know how many they will be getting.
 
My husband got the nasty 28 day letter as well. I'm pretty hacked off. We were there Friday morning and were in the first 50 to preorder and then they hedged around with the "well we don't know when we get them" business.

Oh well. It's what we get for being asleep at midnight last Friday. :cool:

Best Buy always handled their iPad launches nicely, and having missed preorder this year we thought we'd try BB. So much for that idea next time.

They don't know how many they will get so what they should be doing is get a set amount from apple per store and see what you know you will have, then stop pre orders. This way you won't have pissed customers on launch day right?

You do understand that it's APPLE that decides how many of which phone to ship to a particular store, right? And Best Buy has no idea how many units they get until the shipment actually comes in. Go yell at Apple, your vitriol is misdirected.

What is their fault is that they knew leading up until this morning that they didn't know where these phones were. They should have gone through their list (which is extremely short for this store) and called people to let them know not to come in early.

I have yet to call but the "not in stock" email I got from bestbuy has a different order # then did the first email I got when I preordered. Also I was 4 in line and only 2 of us had AT&T, I placed order for black 16gb so how is it they wouldn't have 2+ black /6gb?

I've had my 3GS since day 1... And it's running on fumes, so it is a big effing deal for me. Been waiting for the 5 since the release of 4S. I really hope they have mine in stock. Can't see how they wouldn't have 2 black 16gb AT&T in stock

Same difference, "bud". Best Buy still has no idea how many units in toto they receive from Apple. How each model gets dispersed makes no difference as they're sold out everywhere.

Cute, but wrong. The manager specifically said to come in early and gave zero indication that there was any chance whatsoever that they would have no stock on launch day.

So while no one forced me, or anyone else for that matter, I was definitely given instruction to do so and the belief that if I did, an order I placed would be fulfilled. Sure, I'm not going to die. I won't even stub my pinky toe, but the point of the matter is, I went out of my way this morning to take care of something that was important to me. It went wrong, and I'm a little miffed, so I chimed in with fellow MacRumors forum members to blab about it with each other.

My feelings on the matter were important enough for me to comment about it.
Just as much as your feelings on the matter were important enough for you to comment about it.
