Just about to jump off the fence. Local BB has the Space Grey open-box for $909 and the post office is right next door.

I'm thinking that this one will be fine for now. I'll sell my Early-2011 13" MBP for maybe $300 and that will balance the purchase even more. If it's not good for me long term, then the wife gets a new Macbook! She's not picky and only uses computers for web work. However, I'm pretty sure I'll be ok as most of my heavy lifting work is done via Citrix anyway.

Yeah I saw that but not sure if I understand. I made the $970 macbook purchase and have 15 days. Can I buy a few other things this year before the 15 days are up and the Macbook purchase is then in a 30 day return window? I would like to get a new Apple TV and need a wireless printer.

Call customer service and see if they will extend your mac return policy to 30 days after you reach the spend for "elite" status. Just explain that you could return everything and rebuy it to accomplish the same thing. Believe it or not, bestbuy has really good customer service. You can even be honest that you think they might update the macbook in the next couple of weeks and would like the option to return it in that event.

I'm happy with the macbook at 999. I've been using it exclusively for the past 3 days and its so much easier to grab and use than my pro.

i have the 30 day return so if anything major gets announced i can return it. this is absolutely the mac for my consumption needs. the only thing i wouldn't mind is a slightly more powerful processor (skylake) just to ensure greater longevity. the BB price allowed me to get into and test out the package. id be willing to pay a premium now for top end specs now that i see how great a device it is

Just did this... The local Best Buy had 3 open box rMBs but they were the 512Mb version. Since I didn't need that one I just bought the new $999 one plus the $20 USB adapter.

I gotta say I'm impressed! This little thing is very nice and easy to type on. Its a perfect companion to my iPP!

It's been a few days since the purchase, and I have to report I am completely thrilled with the Macbook. The "under spec'd" thing is overblown, if you use the machine as intended. I typically use Mail, Safari (with lots of tabs), Photos and iTunes.

All open super fast and no lag whatsoever when surfing, listening to music/videos or navigating the OS. Acts just like my maxed out 2015 iMac 5k for these tasks. It's probably the best tech purchase I have made since my first iPhone purchase!

There's little to no chance I'll return it when the new one is released. I mild spec bump will do nothing to improve the experience for me, and if the price drops it won't drop $300. If they add a port (unlikely), I don't care as all I use it for is charging anyway.

I really did like the IPP when I first got it but not having a split keyboard without using the Zoom view was bizarre. Safari mobil like my iPad Air 2 still had some lagging, stuttering memory issues. I thought 4GB would've fixed it but it didn't. Lastly, I hated the highlight-copy-paste, it's a PITA on any tablet.
I just did the same as you...the iPad Pro is awesome but it is just missing too many software features right now. In a year or two it will probably be pretty great. My main issue was how underwhelming the smart keyboard was - iOS is just not well optimized for keyboard use.

Likewise. I am flabbergasted at the way this machine is running compared to the multiple ones I purchased at launch time. It really makes me think they had a bad logic board. It runs much cooler and there is zero, and I mean zero, UI lag.

This is a video of my experience with the 1.2 last year at launch

Seems possible that they could have optimized the OS a little around the MBR build a little since launch. Perhaps we have the same hardware but some better code.

...and I'm still on the fence but I guess I better get off today as I suspect this deal is going to go away today.

Buy it, try it, and if disappointed bring it back. I spent all kinds of time agonizing over the decision until I tried it.

Well, despite speculation of an update this month, this deal was too good to pass up since I've been wanting one for a while. I placed an order today. If an update is launched within 30 days I suppose I can use the return policy. If the update is more than 30 days away then I didn't want to wait that long anyway.

thinking about buying one with the 10% off BB; do you guys think now is better than trying to buy the 2015 model once the 2016 comes out? I don't really care to have the latest and greatest, but I'm just wondering how much the 2015 price would drop if the 2016 version is out.

I'm looking at the 512 GB version as I need big enough space for my work. Anyone know how much the prior generation of MacBooks depreciate when the newer generation is released?

I would be surprised if you would find a better deal than 300 off plus an additional 10 percent($129 for 512 model) resulting in in a savings of $429. I suppose you could get a refurb from Apple with a similar discount after the new one is released, but why wait when you can get it brand new now.

How do you get this 10% off coupon? I want one

Also can it be used on open box items? That might be one way to get a better deal

They used to to be available at the local post office but I haven't found one in some time. They are for sale on eBay and run 20-25 bucks but are well worth it to save 100 plus on the purchase.

I've never had any luck using the 10 percent coupon with open box at the store. However, if you order online and select store pickup, it will let you apply the 10 percent coupon on an open box which makes for a pretty good deal.

Do you guys know when this sale will be over? Im hoping tomorrow still will be 999. Also i have edu discount and will be buying movers coupon. By the way, movers coupon works also online or in store only?

It should still be 999 tomorrow. I went by Best Buy tonight to check out the Apple Pencil and was looking at the MacBook prices and the info tag said prices good 03/06-03/12. Make sure the movers coupon you purchase is for online use. Some of them will work in store and online, but some won't. Just search eBay for "Best Buy 10 online". Unfortunately, it won't let you combine the 50 edu with a 10 percent movers online. I've tried. It will take them both but will zero out the 10 percent coupon. It sucks, but the 10 percent is still a much better savings, especially if you apply it to an open box machine.

Went ahead and jumped. I haven't gotten to use it much yet, but got the 256 with a $50 student discount (thanks son).

The salesperson commented that this was the cheapest he had ever sold one of these. I like the keyboard. I can see how i'm gong to get very fast on this. I do have a little trouble with the trackpad, seems to be getting random input while I'm typing. I guess I need to improve my technique.

So, 15 days to go until I have to decide if I like it or not!

Thanks. I thought you can apply both discount? I see some folks over slickdeals that they were able to use both coupon.

Some people are successful doing that in store. I remember a couple of years ago when the student discount was 150, some of us were going into the store and having success using that on top of the 10 percent coupon which was awesome. BB caught on to that and clamped down pretty hard on most of their stores.

All you can do is try. Sometimes if you get an associate that either doesn't know, or really doesn't care, they will scan both coupons. The system will let you stack them, it's the associates and more importantly the managers who look out for it, and won't let it happen.

The issue with going to the store is, if you have an educated associate helping you, they will know that they are not supposed to use ANY coupons with an open box item. Like I said, their system will take them, it's just a matter of getting someone who will do it.

That's why, end the end, I recommended going online and selecting in store pickup. You won't save that 50 for the student discount, but the website will definitely let you use the 10 percent coupon on open box.

It can't hurt anything to go to the store with both coupons and try. Just play dumb and maybe you will get an associate who doesn't really care. All they can say is no, and if they do, just go home and order it online, then go back and pick it up.

im ready to roll shortly but damn space grey are not available in my area :( ill try their inventory later

i got mine now as I'm typing, poor iPad pro... i have it for a while and definitely this thing and the price is more sense.

999 minus the edu discount $50. i tried first the movers and looks like best buy locked it down. the associate tried it so many time but it did not work.

i got the silver. i saw the space grey looks like its smudge magnet
