This thread has convinced me that I want the MacBook again. I went back and forth between it and the ipp, even tried them both. I love the ipp but as stated, for basically the same money, the MacBook does so much more. I returned my ipp tonight and tomorrow I am going to a store about 30 miles away to pick up a space gray open box mb that I just snagged for 829 pre tax, after discount!

How much cost the 1.3Ghz 512gb version? I wish i've had a friend in the US to send me one in Italy :)

I managed to snag an open box Space gray Macbook for $818 pre-tax. I sold my Surface Pro 3 for something a bit more traditional in terms of a laptop and I really do love this machine. The 1 port thing is mildly annoying but I feel I got a pretty good deal.

I have about 5 days left before I can refund it but I may just keep it. I feel I'll regret not getting a newer one. Decisions, decisions.

Any idea how reliable "Geek Squad Certified" Best Buy open box items are? I see some MB in my area for even less than the $300 off, but I don't have much faith in BB in terms of the technical aspects, so I wanted to know if something like that is just marketing or if these items are really in fact legit

Actually the one I bought was a "Geek Squad Certified Open Box" item. In the box was/is a checklist that the Geek Squad uses to check all Apple computers. I have it in front of me now and it's pretty extensive.

As far as the device itself, you'd be very hard pressed to tell it wasn't a new machine. Aside from the extra packaging Apple uses (plastic covering on the laptop and power brick), it's a flawless machine for a much better price in my opinion. Even the cashier was amazed that I got it for the price I did. She did mention that I still had the exact same return policy if I didn't want the Macbook for any reason.

I absolutely love it. Been on it since I picked it up mid afternoon. I loved the iPad Pro but this has so much more functionality, double the ram, and 8 times the storage of the ipp I returned and the price difference ended up being under 100 bucks.

My only complaint, and it's minor, is how warm the machine gets while it's charging and I am using it. Only an issue while it's in my lap but then again it is a laptop/notebook so it puts out more heat than an iPad.

Either way I love it.

I have never had a single issue with any open box items. In fact, the one I picked up today still had the plastic around the charger and brick, and had 1 charging cycle on it. These open box units are generally just something that someone bought and ended up returning because they couldn't afford it, didn't like it, etc.

You still have the same BB return policy on open box items and you still have the ability to add Apple Care. I buy everything that I can open box. It saves money and the products are usually brand new.

I just bought a gold open box one tonight for $808 pre tax. The website listed the open box at $808 and another certified OB one for $909. The one they had in store was the one for $909 but I asked if they'd meet the price of the $808 since they were both listed as "Excellent" condition. They didn't mind matching the cheaper price! This thing is a steal for almost $500 off retail and the one I got is basically brand new. It still had the plastic around the computer and charge cable/brick.

Wow and I thought I got a deal! Very nice. I'm curious if you find it tempting to return it, knowing new models are on the horizon. I'm tempted but the price savings really is amazing.

Same here, I was going to wait, but the cost savings was too much to pass up. This computer is doing the job for me and will most likely be able to for a few good years.

I feel the exact same way. Even at work it drives a wqhd monitor without a hitch.

I realize the new one will be faster with Skylake but I suspect the basic design will stay the same. I figured if it meets my needs now(which it does) why not get a big discount rather than pay retail for a new one? My son bought one as well.

I need to get a cable for this. Did you just pick up a USB C to VGA cable? Any recommendations?

I use the apple multiport adapter. I connect the single USB-C cable into the macbook and a power cable and HDMI cable into the adapter. HDMI into the monitor.

I bought the base model today and will dig in when I get home from work. Sadly, I could not take advantage of the mover's coupon as my local BB stated they no longer honor that..I guess too many people were abusing it and as a result I could not cash in :(. I did end up using the student discount even though I have been out of school for 6 years :D

That is the reason I buy online for in store pick up. I have used at least 10 movers coupons since last summer.

Everyone is making the claim that they were able to use the bb movers coupon. i think thats a lot of bull. bb wont take the coupon unless you have proof of an actual move in the past year {or can fake one.}and, in fact, i gather bb now wont take the coupon at all.

online. You have to use the code online. A few post above I mentioned I have used about 10 since the summer time, and just used one 2 weeks ago for the macbook.

Difference between new 1.2/512GB Space Gray(1169.99) and Best Buy Geek Squad
Open-Box Excellent - Certified (1064.69) with mover's coupon is $105.20.

Don't know what Open-Box Excellent means(Yes I know what open box mean, but don't know what they consider Excellent), but trying to decide if $105 is worth getting a brand new one.

I made a similar reply to this earlier in the thread but I bought a "Best Buy Geek Squad Open-Box Excellent - Certified" MacBook last week and it looked as if someone used it for a day (or less) and took it back. The machine is flawless and looks/works as if it's new. It's a bit of a toss up but I'd personally just save the $100+. You can always take it back for an exchange/refund if you're not happy with it of course.
