I got through to Best Buy! It took an hour and 15 minutes.

What the Best Buy guy said is that the order isn't showing a delay on his end. He suggested I wait to cancel until we see what happens tomorrow. He said they had not heard anything about a mass delay like they did about the apple watch and he VERY specifically advised I wait. We shall see... I guess, anyone wanting too cancel in light of the emailed delay, it sounds like hope is not lost :)
Hmm I received the same email with the $100 gift card and I wasn't getting ready to cancel. I'm on hold right now! Let's see what this customer service rep tells me. But your post gives me hope. October 7th is just so far away and I already told someone I wasn't selling them my iPhone by this weekend lol
 
See... now I am curious... if my phone doesn't arrive tomorrow, even though I ordered for walk in, it was supposed to be delivered by tomorrow. You think pick ups will get the same $100 if our phones are delayed? Only seems fair.
 
And you bought it? They have been lying through their teeth all week. You even waited over an hour and now you are going to just see what happens?

I have another retailer in my area that has stock of everything but Jet Black tomorrow, including Plus models. I am going to cancel and roll the dice there first thing in the morning. If that fails, I will try an AT&T Store. If that fails, I am just going to put an order, directly through Apple, for the Apple Upgrade program and wait the 2-3 weeks with them. I fully expect Apple to fulfill their orders before any Third Parties.

Chill out, its not like it will hurt to cancel tomorrow instead, geesh. The word is theres no point getting in line, least not around here. I have one phone through Apple that was set to get here after the 22nd that says preparing for delivery. It seems clear that they aren't going to cancel each other in that case, so far. He wasn't in a rush to get off the phone, he just very specifically said that he has had calls for people getting that email whose orders all show there is no delay. Seemed like good advice to not get impatient about canceling until at least tomorrow morning, and I'm gonna take it.

I would definitely be interested to know if you hear the same. But the fact that theres people who order well after people who got the email, it also seems possible someone in their meal department might have just f'ed up. Who knows, but if they can do stupid things one way, they can do them the other too, right.

I just got back from BBY. I went in to look at their cases and was hoping to see or hear some info, which I didn't so I asked. I was told that all of their instore preorders (reservations for the 7, not 7+) had been received and they had some left to sell to the public tomorrow. They had not received any of the on-line preorders, which includes all of the 7+ orders. He knew nothing about the way the on-line process worked or how people were being notified about the status. He knew nothing about any notices going out about delays or the $100 gift cards being offered. He said if I hadn't gotten one of those emails, he expected the on-line pre-orders to be drop shipped during the day tomorrow. This is what happened last year when I got my 6s+. It did not come in the first shipment on Thursday, but came in on Friday so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that the same thing happens this year. I'll of course continue to check my email for that delay message and the status on my BBY account for the order.

Has anyone gotten a delay notice that is doing in-store pickup? Has anyone doing in-store pickup had their order status change from "Processing"? What does the status say on the orders that are delayed now? Sorry if some of this has been discussed. I haven't had a chance to go back to read everything that was posted while I was at BBY.
 
I am supposed to get one of my phones tomorrow from best buy....I just received my wireless account contract.....we will see if it magically appears being sent from UPS overnight
 
See.. that is all I want to know. Do I plan on driving over tomorrow or not? That is all I want to know. If they are processing the pre orders in store, I just want to see movement on my best buy order tracking page.

If your phone is ready for Friday AM pickup you will receive an email and or see it set to Ready For Pickup on the Order Status page.

I don't think they are lying, I think this is one of those companies that suffers because theres no intra-department communication, its each compartmentalized and so inefficient which makes patronizing it difficult and annoying. Yes, they did alot stock before verifying its availability which is kind of cr*p and the very reason I hate shopping there... but this guy on the phone at CS isn't part of some big conspiracy, he seemed to genuinely tell me what he knows. I think, worst case, he just doesn't know anything. But the fact that the order still looked good from his end, which he would have no reason to lie about, suggests that it might be worth just waiting it out till tomorrow since, in my specific situation and location (we have two local stores that don't ever have much stock anyway), it seems like it will be pointless to wait in line for 256gb black plus given the articles floating around about apple saying there won't be any.

So cancel, not telling you not to, just saying what I was told incase it helped anyone. I was going to take his advice is all, and see what happens. It was a long wait, but I just put the phone down and did something else. He did say that if and when I choose to cancel he can verify that at&t has canceled on their end and that the upgrade has been reversed, right there and then.

I did forget to ask about the "waiting for authorization" status though, doh! If anyone can shed light one that....
 
Best Buy is such a joke!!!!!Now they are telling me I, again, have issues with the pre activation of my iPhone order. I called once today and confirmed my information..........this company has lost all of my respect. They just lost an elite plus member

Or does this mean a phone has been assigned to my line already and maybe I am getting it tomorrow?

Best Buy said it means nothing......BUT if you chat or call them again, I promise their answer will change

Basically it means that your line upgrade eligibility has been used up. If you try to go somewhere else and upgrade, in the meantime, you can't on that particular line. You have to first (1) cancel the best buy order or (2) do a cross upgrade from another eligible line on the account.

AT&T will treat your upgrade like you did it on the 9th so you could even get billed for your first installment without the phone possibly. (I could be wrong about that one).

I need to call Best Buy and cancel my AT&T Next so I can go to another retailer, who claims they have stock, and try to get a phone tomorrow morning.

Does your order also say "awaiting authorization" when it didn't before? And good to hear the answers are at least the same! Crossing my fingers for you, (and me!).

This is just what the BB reps always do. They can only see the same info you can (the phone is still preordered, the preorder release date is 9/16). They're instructed to inform people that it "looks good" on their end.

If you go to any thread from previous launches you'll see that these responses from reps never pan out. There's an entire thread from the 6s launch where the online rep keeps saying that exact line, and very few of the people who were told this actually end up receiving phones.

At least those codes they gave us are ours to keep even if we cancel the order, which is something they haven't done in the past.

yeah :( I just don't understand why i ordered right around 3:30 AM EST the only thing i can think of is that i updated my order from home delivery to store pick up and then to home delivery again...maybe that delayed the process. keep me updated! the guy said i should receive the tracking info tomorrow...but you never know with best buy.

Yeah, I wouldn't normally have any faith in it either... but man, theres people ordering days past the 9th who have the same model that have tracking numbers. I can't imagine they have a system that allows them to do an order lottery like that. Why would someone who ordered later get it and not the early folk. I'm imaging a system or user error somewhere... but I guess, if you aren't planning on waiting in line somewhere, it really can't hurt to stick it out at this point. BUT if its not here tomorrow, yeah, I'm gonna cancel. Apple can beat that October date by a margin.

I spoke with Best Buy this afternoon about the awaiting authorization. What it means is that once you proeorder and they charge the tax they can only hold it for a week. After that they have to release funds and they charge again once the phone ships. I have the same awaiting authorization in my order

Awesome thank you! I just heard that too after waiting on hold again, ha! I'm writing a paper for class, its not like I'm going anywhere anyway... wait on hold for an hour? Sure.

The one thing I have learned in all this is that having a paid in full order at Apple, and then a NEXT order at Best Buy, to the same number- they do not cancel each other out. That was why I was in a rush to cancel BB's order as I was worried it could cancel the Apple order, but thats not true apparently.
