I nuked my preorder this morning. I used my $100 coupon on a PS4 Pro Preorder (note that you have LESS than a month to use that coupon).

A Best Buy rep on the phone actually suggested that I could use the coupon and then cancel the preorder, so that's what I did.

If they end up charging me the other $100 I will cancel the whole thing on general principle. Just dealing with Best Buy's phone system to cancel my order is enough for me to never shop with them again. What a mess of a company.

UPDATE!

Finally Ready for pick-up! At&t 128GB 7 plus black

Preorder- 9/9 12:20AM
Delayed email with $100GC - 9/16
1-888 status - "being prepared" since 9/17
Ready for pick up! - 9/21
Location: Oregon

On may way...
Picked up my preorder (256 7+ RG) this evening as well. Status had been showing "processing" since I ordered on 9/9. Got the same delay email and GC. Got the "ready to pick up email" around 11 this morning and picked it up after work.

I had just found another phone at Apple Store about an hour away and made a reservation to pick it up when I saw the email from BBY so called BBY to confirm then cancelled my reservation with Apple which was for a 128 so got me 256 and can keep the $100 GC. Yeah! And the case I had ordered came in today. Perfect timing for a change.

Note: Thought i had posted this earlier but couldn't find it so if this is a duplicate, please ignore/delete. Thanks!

So, I reread the email Best Buy sent out with the $100 gift card. I don't think they will try to charge your credit card if you cancel your iPhone preorder (TL;DR version: Nothing in their email states that they will do this if you cancel your preorder).

They say "Also, we want to try and make up for the delay by offering you a $100 discount on your next purchase at Best Buy." They add "PLEASE TREAT THIS PROMOTIONAL CODE LIKE CASH AND SAFEGUARD IT ACCORDINGLY." (Cash - like once you use it, it's gone).

Here is the fine print: " Promotional code must be redeemed by offer expiration date. Promotional codes cannot be applied toward Best Buy Gift Cards, Geek Squad® Protection Plans, state recycling fees, installation fees and third-party purchases. Redeemable in-store and online. Promotional code cannot be replaced if it is lost, stolen, or if you cancel or return your order. Promotional codes are non-transferable. Not redeemable for cash. Not valid as payment on the Best Buy credit card. Valid major credit card required for online purchases. To see how the value of promotional code has been allocated within your order, view your Order Status."

The line in bold is the only thing that SEEMS to indicate you could be charged the $100 if you cancel your iPhone order...but I don't think that is what it means.

I think it means that, if you use the promotional code, and then you cancel or return your NEW order (for something other than the iPhone you preordered), they will not replace/reinstate the promotional code. Even if the order they are referring to is the iPhone you preordered, who cares if they are unable to replace the promotional code if you cancel/return your iPhone? That doesn't mean they are going to attempt to recoup the $100 from your credit card.

Nowhere does it say "If you cancel your preorder, and use our $100 promotional code, we will charge $100 to your credit card."

Finally, they do make a point to say "We value you as a Best Buy customer, apologize again for the inconvenience and hope to see you again soon." Not that that is worth much, but I think it's their way of saying they screwed up, and here is $100, do with it what you will (even if you cancel your preorder).

Maybe we can now put this question to bed?

PS I wound up using my credit for a smart Wemo slow cooker. - After credit, I paid about $15-$20. I have all the serious tech I need, thought this could be something different and make weeknight cooking a bit easier. And if they wind up charging me $100 4 months from now (which wouldn't shock me due to their general incompetence and sloppy inventory management/billing practices), I'm not going to sweat it. (But I will report back if that does happen, if ppl still care at that point.)

***Ahh so when I went to cancel my order, it said "If you cancel an item that qualified you for a special promotion, you will no longer receive that promotion." Still, they are saying that if you didn't use your promotion by the time you cancel, you don't get the promotion. It doesn't mean they would attempt to charge your card. That would just be evil - they know they screwed over folks who preordered from them, so I seriously doubt they will try to get the $ back, IMHO.

I'm starting to get the feeling it's going to be awhile until best but gets my 256gb att matte black 7+ in stock. It seems like it's even a rare phone to see pop up in Apple in store stock. I don't want to cancel though because the $100 is nice to have. Has anyone gotten a pre order pickup for a matte black 256 7+?

I'm going to cancel my best buy order on friday.. I managed to pick up a 128gb matter black from apple yesterday after this whole Best Buy mess....

What state are you located in? I'm still waiting for my 7+ 256gb matte black here in North Dakota for store pickup.

Once you're in the store, they check your upgrade eligibility and you have to be the account owner. I have a 50% off 30gb data plan (promo they did a few years ago) plus an employee discount and I've never had any issues keeping my plan unchanged upgrading any lines on my account. Not sure about the old unlimited specifically though. They just selected the option for no account changes.

I've kept the same plan upgrading through apple in different instances with their upgrade program, AT&T next, even buying the Verizon model outright to use on AT&T.

I'm so glad it worked out for you! Did you receive the 50% promo years ago from carrier or Apple Store? And they continued to honor that without any problem? Did you get your iP7+ outright, finance or lease? Sorry so many questions!

I just reserved my iP7+ at an apple store and was wondering if they would continue to honor my customer loyalty credit on my lease that I received through Best Buy for my current 6S.. I'm kinda done waiting from Best Buy..

I have been following this thread since the pre-order date.(9/9/16)

I also preordered through them, iphone 7+ 256- jetblack for store pickup.

Called local Bestbuy on 9/16 to see if theres any chance mine arrived (ofcourse not)

Got a $100 gift card code in email thr next day.. which was nice.

Got an email on 9/21 around 9am that my phone os ready for pickup. Local bestbuy called at 5pm to ask if i still want the phone.

Picked up the phone at 7pm.

The guys at bestbuy called it a unicorn (being a jetblack 7+) the first one they received in the state and i got it.

No, att. I can keep it just can't upgrade, except through the Best Buy loophole

There is no Best Buy loophole. No one can force you to change your data plan. You are grandfathered in and the only way to change it is by you changing your plan.

There is on the Verizon side of things!!!

Your misunderstanding. If I want to not pay full price for a phone THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT IS THROUGH BEST BUY, or I lose my unlimited data. I can pay full price but don't feel like paying 1000 dollars in one lump

How did the process go? Was there anything special you had to do? Ive heard some people getting turned away because the option didn't popup.
