best car mount for X

Bought an answer adjustable mount so can now angle towards my face. However it won't unlock sitting from my position.

What's the max range on the X when you initiate a FaceID

This is how the magnets are inserted in the MagMount. This may help you find the suitable metal plate.

I dropped it once and a small piece of the threading tore, but no i don't recommend this case for drops I don't trust it very much when it comes to that. I just like the slim design case without a lip.
 
I'm not an iPhone owner at present and am bit of a cheap-skate at times.

I have a huawei mate 9 which I use mainly for sat nav when in car.
It is attached to windscreen just to right of steering wheel and is great!

for money I cannot argue!
Plus it is branded too.
The head is on a ball and can be put in almost any position wanted!
Also close to wheel can interact without taking eyes off road too much.

also came with a sticky backed disc so you can mount it to dash and not just glass.

It does have a slight rattle though if holder is empty and you go over some bumps.
But for the cost I can overlook the rattle of the arms.
 
I just purchased a Kenu Airframe Pro to work with my iPhone X. Actually I bought two. One will stay in my at-home car and the other will be for travel. It has a wider jaw and pivot so it will accommodate FaceID on my X.

I'm using one of their cradles for the iPhone 8 and it's been doing me good so far. It keeps my iPhone in place even when I'm driving on rough roads where it gets really bumpy. Also their charger is very good. I haven't had dead batteries even after driving for hours.

With an Apple Leather Case for my XS Max. Magnet goes between my phone and the case. Only car mount on the dashboard that stuck to my car. The others would not stick to the dashboard.
