3rd party keyboards have been pretty buggy for me. no keyboard coming up or the keyboard completely frozen. im impressed when swiftkey works how accurate the swiping is but it needs to be on the ball working fluid like apples keyboard and so far thats not the case. fleksy and swype have both frozen on me as well.

I think some Samsung devices have SwiftKey as the default keyboard.

Once SwiftKey fixes all the bugs I think it will easily be the most used keyboard on all mobile devices.

I have had Swype freeze but have been using SwiftKey more. SwiftKey is performing well except for hiding text in the messages app. I have found all 3rd party keyboards failing at this thus far. I am hoping when my six comes tomorrow it will be fixed.

I've been using Swype and SwiftKey but now I'm trying out Minuum keyboard and it's very good so far and very accurate and fast. Y'all should really give it a try its good.

Best Keyboard?

Actually the new Apple predictive keyboard in iOS 8 is very good. Finding it very fast.

I didn't like Fleksy

What is "gesture type"?

Various functions accessible by swiping from certain keys to others.

For example:
If you swipe from the 'm' key to the space bar, Swype will insert a question mark (so you don't have to go hunting around for it).

The Swype app has a series of tips included which detail the gestures. I was quite pleased to find the aforementioned question mark tip.

Ah, OK. Wasn't aware that this was the name for it.

I prefer TouchPal in this regard since they have cheats on the keys.

@JoeThomasone I'll keep TouchPal in mind then in case Swype goes south. I previously had it on my Nexus 7 and it became impossibly slow after a while.

Minuum has no swype feature like Swiftkey, Swype, Touchpal have so i will skip that one.

I'm waiting on the first swype keyboard to offer Dutch support. Hopefully Path Input will update their app soon for iPhone and iPad to the iOS8 keyboard. I really like it a lot.

I'm liking Swiftkey, but I'd actually be surprised if Apple doesn't just built the functionality in for iOS 9...like Google did. That'd be the best of both worlds.

FECK !

I just spent 15 mins trying to turn on Keyboard Flow in Swiftkey....

None of the online videos or info seem to work.

Then, in the iTunes App store, buried, is "Flow is only available on iPhone and iPod touch at this time"

BE WARNED.

Trying Swype now. WOW. You can hold down the MAIN keyboard letter keys to get a range of other characters, such as punctuation and digits.

I use lots of digits, and ( ) & : ; @ / etc and these are available from the main keyboard, and are marked on the Alpha keys as the many "hold-to-pick options"

With SwiftKey you have to go to a different keyboard, ugh.

Also, flow typing works on my iPad with Swype.

I liked SwiftKey, but it kept crashing and returning to the black theme, even when it was set to white. I moved to Swype and it seems a lot more stable, and has an add to dictionary feature which is great.

For people who've used Swype a bit longer than myself - is there an easy way to type question and exclamation marks? SwiftKey's swipe to left/right is a feature I miss.

Also, can I type a space then a dash then a space? (Like - this). On Swype, it always deletes the first space, even if I type the dash first then go back and add the space after. It gets really annoying, as I use that to punctuate my sentences when I'm writing more casually a lot.

Swiftkey was one of the few things I thought my Nexus 7 did better than iOS. I'm very happy to see it come to the iPhone.

Honestly the built-in iOS 8 keyboard is almost there, but the predictions pop up too slowly to be useful.

Swipe from 'M' to the space bar for a question mark, swipe from 'X' to the space bar for an exclamation mark.

This is because Apple limits the amount of memory an extension such as a keyboard can use. The iPad's higher res graphics take up too much space.

But of course 1GB of ram is plenty for iOS...
