Whatever keyboard you use when it comes to input passwords it reverts back to stock keyboard

Yes that is correct. 3rd party keyboards are not allowed to be used when you enter a password. See also Apple's developer page concerning 3rd part keyboards. Another thing which they also don't allow is using a Siri/voice button in a 3rd party keyboard. You then need to switch to the Apple keyboard as well :(

i cant get swype to load up on my iphone 5s. after enabling it in settings all my keyboards disappear. am i missing a step? swiftkey works fine.

I read about this odd problem and it could be that either of these fixes could resolves it for you:

- I had activated the guided access in my Accessibility Settings. Now after deacivating this option the third-party keyboards appear insteed of the grey box

Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access (off)

AND/OR

- At first I reset the keyboard dictionary.

How to reset the keyboard dictionary:
Settings - General - Reset - Reset Keyboard Dictionary

Then I additionally allowed "full access" for the Minuum third party keyboard:
Settings - General - Keyboard - Keyboards - Minuum Keyboard - Allow Full Access
If I remove the full access the keyboard disappears again. So it must be this setting.

You could also try changing the order of the keyboards in settings of the keyboards. So first have Swype and then e.g. Apple keyboard.

Did you see the attached picture? This is what I see on my Swype keyboard when it is selected via the GLOBE icon.

NOTE: in Settings you can re-order the keyboards to make Swype first at the top of the list.

When I select Swype, I don't see the punctuation hints below the letters on the keys. Other than the letters themselves, the keys are blank. (See attachment)

My one issue with Swype, sometimes, as I am swiping, I see the word in the predictive box but as soon as I let my finger go, it disappears.

Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Is the IOS keyboard that bad?

No, it's actually pretty good, the predictive text is really good, but there's this hype for the new keyboards, different colors, swiping etc.

To be honest, if iOS keyboard had the swiping technology, for me it could be the best keyboard.

Since this is a new concept with IOS 8, are we going to see a lot of app updates? I only ask because I want to try a keyboard, but they do have not very good reviews.

Am I the only person who doesn't like the predictive text features? I would much rather not have it on screen and use that real estate to view more messages on the thread.

I really like it, but I can understand what you are saying, but you also have to keep in mind that the new software is basically design for the bigger iPhone 6/6+.

If you are using the stock Apple keyboard you can turn it completely off.

Here's a picture from someone else in this thread of the iPhone 6 with predictive text on, plenty of space left.

Yes, a lot of updates.

Also, you can download Switfkey to try a new keyboard, it's free, my favorite right now is Swype, $.99, I like the look of the keyboards and the really accurate swiping function.

And yes, there are a few bugs on the 3rd party keyboards, pretty sure they will get fixed.

I'm really liking Swype. It's only real drawback for me is the lack of emoji. It's a bit of a hassle to switch keyboards back and forth, but oh well. I'd really like the stock iOS keyboard to incorporate gesture texting. That would be my dream keyboard.

Cant stand it, and i can't get it to go away with Swype.
There's a weird thing when you go to a message it doesn't scroll to the bottom.
Swype has been doing the same for me.
Can't get swiftkey to recognize keyboard shortcuts.
Swype either. :(
If you swipe from the 'm' key to the space bar, Swype will insert a question mark (so you don't have to go hunting around for it).
Thank you. Didn't Know that, I've been holding down M/X.
Wait, this is an option with Swype? How do you enable it? I don't see them..
Hold the globe in Swype, slide to the gear. Themes > Dark.

The warning is by default

I installed Swype and it doesn't have the same popup at swiftkey, so does that mean Swype doesn't have the enable full access setting? Because I can't find it, so I am wondering if Swype just is sandboxed and doesn't need full access to fully function (which would be better for me)

Or have I missed the swype message about 3rd party and they do the same thing as swiftkey.

I am all about security so I just want to make sure Swype is good because even though it is buggy I am enjoying it so far.

Anyone have any input on this - trying to be as security conscious as possible

The default one.

SwiftKey will probably be my favourite once the SwiftKey/iOS bugs are sorted out.

I've got content panes not scrolling properly when SwiftKey opens, in an e-mail subject it will not let me type " 's " no matter what I do. The displayed suggestions are sometimes not drawn properly, so when I tap on one of the suggestions it actually uses a different word. Last but not least, the keyboard sometimes doesn't let me type at all.

Nightmare.

Gone back to regular iOS keyboard for now.

Do most of these apps have color features? I would love a black or at least a darker keyboard

Try Cooolkey.. It's a normal keyboard with lots of themes. You can even customize it by using your own favorite photos as the keyboard background.

it's buggy.. it overlaps with the most recent messages which means you have to scroll down to see them.

Sometimes, you can't see what you're typing. There are also times when it autocorrects even if you disable that option.

Thankfully Swiftkey was free because it just plain doesn't work on my iPhone 6. Tried all the hints and it won't come up in any application.

I want a minimal stock ios keyboard in horizontal. I do not want the added buttons on the left and right. Just the classic iOS keyboard in the horizontal position like it is in the vertical.

For color, I do like the black quick reply keyboard.

Does Swype interact with servers like Swiftkey or is it entirely self-contained on the phone?

I like both Swype and Swift but Swype is noticeably more accurate so I am sticking with Swype for now.

I find myself getting frustrated with the inaccuracies of Swift quite often and then switch back to Swype. However, I do think the Swift keyboard layout is better than Swypes by far.

I like that Swype erases the entire word if I backspace while Swift only does individual letters.

When I select Swype, I don't see the punctuation hints below the letters on the keys. Other than the letters themselves, the keys are blank. (See attachment)

The dark theme is the only one that shows the punctuation (etc.) but, the additional selections are there for all themes. Just do a long press on any letter to bring up the other selections.

The top row is numbers; 1 to 9 then 0.
Next two rows are mostly punctuation options and the letter "Z" has a smiley face option.

I originally voted for SwiftKey but, the more I use Swype, the more I like it and it doesn't have the privacy concerns.

Well swype has edged it fit me so far ou I've reverted back to default (I keep switching) I'm still fairly quick on default keyboard. Gonna hold out on some updates on the third party keyboards as they all seem to have some small bugs..

I'm surprised Touchpal isn't getting more love. Excellent app, very accurate, universal and doesn't require you to grant full access to work.

I tried TouchPal too, and to be honest, it has nothing to do against Swype or Swiftkey, Swype is my favorite, but I can understand why so many people choose Swiftkey, it's free.
