Long time back I used to use Kensington turbo mouse. I love that trackball, even use to play RTS games with it. Unfortunately, Kensington's trackballs have been lousy for several years. Made me go back to using a mice.

On my mac I use a Logitech MX1000, its very stylish and has lasted me a long time. It tracks really well. The only issue is that its a tad wide and weighs like a brick. In extended sessions it kills my hand. I'm not a big fan of logitech software on the pc or mac, but they are getting a bit better, if slowly. On my PC most MS mice bite, but the one that works for me comfort wise and with adequate sized buttons is the good old MS Intellimouse Explorer. The negative is that they tend to die fast. Next time I may consider a razer...

My Logitech G5 just arrived yesterday. I really like it, and I haven't even had time to do gaming yet. I really need a new mouse pad for it, though. Thinking about a Razer.

If you prefer a soft surface regular surface mousepad, may I suggest the XTracPads RipperXXL? Once you use it, anything smaller feels like a compromise.

Now I have the Razer Deathadder + Razer Goliathus mouse pad. Really pleased. The only thing that sucks is that after installing the Razer software, every time I reboot my mac with my Mighty Mouse (Razer is just for gaming), I see that in system preferences the sensivity has been lowered and I need to turn it up again. Is someone else experiencing this ? Is there a fix ?

I use this combo! FTW!! but if I use a mouse in Mac it's also the Deathadder, so can't help you there.

How are you holding it? I ask, because with my old MX-700(G5 molding) and the MX-1000 I replaced that with and still use on my Mac today, I rest the palm of my hand on the back of the mouse. Now with my G9, I rest the palm of my hand on the mouse pad. This makes it easy to do quick small movements, like pulling the mouse back, more so than my MX-1000, or any other similar designed mouse. If I rest my palm on the G9, not only does it feel weird, but it hinders its movement. I use my thumb and ring finger for most moments, on both mice, but the G9's lack of tapered end makes it easier to do so, as it provides more room for movement.

I honestly wasn't sure I would like the G9 at first, mainly because I was trying to rest my hand on it, but now I love it and I can see why they didn't go with the tapered design. I use my MX-1000 most of the time, but have no issues going to the G9 late at night to play a game with some friends.

I hold my G9 like you do. The point you present is mighty good - I think you're right, I'm able to respond faster due to resting my palm on the mousepad rather than on the mouse itself. That said, the G5 might be a more comfortable mouse for the same reason. It's hard to say.
