Blackadder

Honourable mentions in no particular order to...

X-Files
Star Trek: Next Generation
The Office
Only Fools and Horses
Vicar of Dibley
Californication
Bottom
The Simpsons

It will no doubt change as soon as i post this

1. Coronation Street
coronation_street-logo.jpg

The longest running serial drama in the world and with good reason. I watch it mainly for the comedy - when some characters have been developing for as much 50 years they become so developed that the humour is just far, far better than you'd find in any film or show that's on once a week.

2. Monk

Unique show set in an amazing city and again it's the characters that make it.

3. The Office (US)

So far superior to the UK version on which it is based and hit its peak in seasons 2 and 3. Been going downhill ever since.

suits is my favorite show that's on tv. Of all time in know particular order I would say :
Friends, Kings of queens, Entourage, South Park, Family Guy, Boy Meets World, and I probably forgot a bunch that I used to watch.

...As was UFO. Aaah UFO: Shapely British chicks, in skimpy 70's mini skirts and boots, wearing purple wigs and living on a Moon-base for Pete's sake! What more could a young lad ask for? ;)

Funky 70's theme tune too. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slYW7kkHyI4&feature=related
I remember it well. Good show. M*A*S*H was great too.

My nominees are three shows that I can't believe nobody has mentioned up until now:

Nowhere Man
The Prisoner
Babylon 5

B5 in particular was the first true "saga" show, one in which its creator/writer knew the entire 5-year story arc from beginning to end before he sat down to type the first word. Lost has its fans, and I liked The X Files quite a bit, but if you want a show where you know that the writers know where they're going with this, you can't beat B5.

Can't believe no one has said: Game of Thrones - my current favorite

Best Drama Ever: The Wire
Best Comedy Ever: Seinfeld

Other previously unmentioned excellent shows: Homicide, Dexter, Modern Family, Chopped (had to throw it in there)

I did, reply #31. :D But didn't you think the second season dragged a bit as compared to the 1st one? My understanding is that they are going to split the 3rd book between Seasons 3 and 4.

The No.1 show for me would have to be Life on Mars. Not to offend the Americans out there, but the US series sucked. ;')

My bad Huntn... sorry I missed it. Good call. Some of the scenes in season 2 with Stannis were a little long for my taste but overall I still thought it was excellent. I'm getting through the books now I guess I won't have to rush to stay ahead of the show if A Storm of Swords takes up season 3 and 4.

I started watching "Suits" on USA. Wow. That show is freaking great. Anyone else watch that?

I watch it every week :) My lawyer friends tells me real life is nothing like that though, so I tell them neither was House!

As for the best TV show, I couldn't pick just one! Maybe one hundred of them :p

You can't beat Seinfeld.

I do love The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead has turned into Days of our Lives, Part Deux. Major league boring ****.

----------

Everyone is talking sitcoms, so I'll throw my two cents in.

Seinfeld is great.
Becker is probably the best one though. Becker is the man!

There are so many TV shows I've been obsessed with over the years, particularly The Sopranos and Mad Men.

But last night I discovered a new beauty. Suits. It really, really impressed me!

Donna? Hell yeah!

The Walking Dead has turned into Days of our Lives, Part Deux. Major league boring ****.

It needs less family, more killing.

Star Trek.

Oh yes, absolutely, especially Star Trek Next Generation.

Blackadder

Agree completely re Blackadder. Simply superb. Hilarious, intelligent, witty, and very very clever historically.

I can't believe that - apart from your good self - no-one else has even referenced one of the most original, creative, brilliant shows ever made; The Prisoner was simply mind-blowing, electrifying, thought-provoking and deeply disturbing TV. Quite simply, one of my all time favourites.

The No.1 show for me would have to be Life on Mars. Not to offend the Americans out there, but the US series sucked. ;')

Oh yes; agree completely with you. Life On Mars - the British version - was brilliant. The sequel, Ashes to Ashes was pretty good, too.

Here is my list.

Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
The Walking Dead
Person of Interest
Homeland
Dexter
Friday Night Lights
Suits
Spartacus
The Shield
Californication

How I Met Your Mother
Two and a Half Men
Seinfeld
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Friends
The League

Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Legend of Korra

For GOT I am absolutely torn about reading the book first or waiting and reading it after. I read the 1st book (Game of Thrones) after I watched the first season. I read the 2nd book (Clash of Kings) before the second season, but in hind sight, I think I would have enjoyed watching the second season first. One thing I noticed in the second season, they really cut down the story to the bare bones of the book all most to the point where they had to resort to a lot of "chit chat" or personal interaction ;) scenes as filler just to get to the battle at the end. I realized the show has serious limitations placed on it, like "get'r done" in one season.

For Season 3 and 4 thankfully they will be splitting the book. I think this increases the odds that there will be more substance from the books presented in the show.

No clear No1 for me so here's a list:
Game of thrones
Hell on wheels
Falling skies
Sons Of Anarchy (even so I've never managed to drive anything with 2 wheels and a motor )

Could add some classics here, just to lazy.

They haven't made it yet....but it will be when Seinfeld takes place in the Office of the Enterprise (Star Trek).
