Pre-ordered through BestBuy. Now... 5 days later... I... Lost hope. No phone calls for iPhone setup. BestBuy pre-authorization not posted yet. Still stuck in ore-ordered mode.

I've lost hope. How about you?

...have you called them?

No.

Why are you expecting a phone call? The pre order confirmation email has a link to setup an in store appointment.

Relax a bit.

I've preordered two phones from Best Buy in the last two years. Don't expect ANY emails until the day before, or the day of the release. I had mixed experiences with my pre-orders:
S6 Edge - Received an email late in the day of the launch saying they didn't have my order ready yet. I wound up cancelling and ordering somewhere else.
S7 Edge - Received an email the day before launch that it was ready for pickup. Was in and out within 5 minutes, like any other pickup item from Best Buy.

So no need to lose hope, but set your expectations accordingly. I will say even if they miss the launch day delivery, you're likely in WAY better shape than everyone else with month long waits. Don't let your emotions get the best of you-- be a little more patient :)

Uhhhhhh relax... Best Buy preorders never update until the day before release for shipping and day of for store pickup, sometimes the night before.

Having ordered an iPhone 8 Plus from Best Buy, I can tell you I did not hear a peep from them till the afternoon of delivery day. No charge, no email, no communication. Nothing. But they did get me the phone exactly as promised, and notified me to come pick it up. Makes for anxiety, for sure, but don't assume anything runs exactly as you'd expect with BestBuy. Instead, the unexpected may happen, and you may get your iPhone. Good luck!

Bank says pre-authorization will post tonight sometime. Here's to crossing your fingers.

Relax, I used to work for Best Buy and every year we would receive a special truck with the new iPhones the day before launch day. Management would be very secretive as to how many phones we would receive, that day we would be asked to stay later after we close (Just the mobile department team) and then after doors were closed we would bring all the phones out and start putting them away getting ready for the next day, warehouse would start processing orders, we would get the slips and put them on each iPhone showing the customer's info. At that point people would start getting e-mails that their order was ready and they could come pick them up the next day. I even remember one time as we were leaving around 10:30 pm a customer was waiting for someone to walk outside and then he said that he got an email saying that his order was ready LOL we were like um yes, but we closed at 9pm you have to come back tomorrow haha

You do have to know that Best Buy never receives enough inventory from Apple though. There are always a lot people mad because they didn't receive their phone. Just please don't go crazy on the associates, they really have no control over pre-orders and even if you yell at management, they can't do much other than maybe give you a free case. Best Buy employees are supposed to inform clients that they do not guarantee a phone on release day! and this is not just with Apple, but any phone release.

Thank you. That's actually helpful. But why wait till the last minute.

If I use a vz sim to activate the phone, I'd still be able to use it on gsm networks correct? I know the answer is probably yes but just want to make sure. Thanks.
Did you get a response to this? Also, does this (activate with a Verizon SIM first) still work if you purchased the phone on a GSM carrier payment plan (e.g., AT&T Next)?

It was always like that. I worked at two different locations for 4 years and we would ALWAYS receive shipment the day before! I don't know why.

I always hated it because that meant I had to stay longer that day!

I’m just curious what kind of deficiencies a person must suffer from to decide on ordering an iPhone from Best Buy over Apple.com.
