From what I have seen:

Regular black option appears to be too light in color. I think I'll go with the jet black and deal with the minor scratches.

Directly from Apple's website. I guess Matte Black it is.
  1. The high-gloss finish of the Jet Black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

Thus defeating the point of getting Jet Black in the first place.

To be honest, neither of these interest me from the get go. I reckon the black bezel with the edge of the black aluminium frame will make the screen look tiny and emphasize the bezel size.

Its really hard to chose and i have they have comparison videos of them both before friday. I love matt black but i really like the jet black too

Matte/Regular black for me.

Jet Black looks awesome, but the fingerprints/scratches it would attract would drive me up the wall.
I initially was completely sold on the jet black, but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning the same direction as you.

Over time it will probably start to look like the back of an iPhone 3G or an old iPod (with the shiny chrome back piece that got crazy scratched).

Tough call.

Gonna make my decision later tonight when all those hands on videos on Youtube are posted.
They're starting:

This one only shows finger prints and smudges all over the back. I'm hoping by tonight they'll take a close look to see how bad easily it scratches.

I think I'm the only person on the entire forum who likes space grey.. *runs and hides in corner* :p these new black colours just don't do it for me, which is a shame, because I always get the black front iPhone.

Not upgrading this year anyway, but if the iPhone 7S/8 only comes in these two black options I'm gunna be disappointed.

Thanks for this reminder brother! I clearly remember how I loved my 3GS, but hated all those scratches. Matte black for me!!

The thing I like about the jet black is that you can't tell where the glass ends and metal begins. I think I love how those colors / materials blend so well together. But I need more videos and hands on time ;)

EDIT: here's a quick look at the matte black version:

The jet black looks gorgeous. My common sense tells me regular/matte black though...

That's my struggle too. But I know I'll be getting next year's iPhone too (I'm on the yearly update program) so the fine scratches the jet black may get won't affect resale that much if I'm just trading in for the new version... hmmm....

I feel the same. Jet black looks sexy as hell but what the PS3 and any other shiny plastic has taught me, scratches, scratches everywhere!

I am digging the black black finish though. Apple has finally brought back true black. I am leaning towards that now. Take a break from silver/white. The blacks look sexy.

Well share them here when you find them. I just put in an order for a regular black 128GB iPhone 7 for my works business plan upgrade program. Can still change my mind I hope if needed but I'm 80% sure I'll still with what I picked.

Probably the matte black, but like others, I bet this is a fingerprint magnet. My XPS laptop is the same way. Rubbery matte black texture...filled with fingerprints and oily smudges that are very hard to get rid of.

Is "black" the same as "space black" on the Apple Watch? It looks a little darker than the "Space Gray" on the current iPod Touches, but I can't tell if it's same black as on the watches.

is it me or does the jet black seem to collect less fingerprints than the flat?
