After looking at all the colors yesterday I, actually prefer Silver and Space Grey over Matte Black. MB is dull and underwhelming, but perfect if you use a case. Too bad Apple doesn't make a Black Front/Silver Back model.
I'm actually debating with myself wether to stick with my JB order or change it to silver. I really love the look of the white front in a brown leather case. Plus it matches my iPad Pro and Apple Watch in the same setup...

Okay - there's no doubt the phone will scratch. What people aren't mentioning, though, is that the scratches on the bottom of the phone (like at 1:30 in the video you linked) are actually in the antenna band, not on the jet black finish itself. The "desk test" certainly scratched the finish, but I find the antenna scratches interesting.

The antenna bands on my 6S+ are totally scratched after a year too. A few scratches on the space gray metal.

I got matte black and one thing is really like is how the screen glass blends with the chasis. It almost makes the screen looked curved on the edges and subdues the chasis, which I like. Jet black might also create this effect; haven't tried one. I'm also not using a case, which helps--we'll see how long it takes me to regret that decision.

Do you guys think switching between cases can scratch the jet black?
I think it depends on the case and how clean the phone is. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the harder plastic cases to leave some scuffs.

I think the fine scratches on the back are just like the ones you get on the screen. You only see them if you're looking for them and shining the light just right. I honestly think it's a non-issue.

The look of the Jet Black is unparalleled greatness. I know that's subjective though.

The grippiness, however, is much superior to the 6s I had and the other finishes of the 7. Holding one you can immediately tell that it doesn't slide out of your hand nearly as easily as the others.

I honestly think the OCD crowd is missing out. The Jet Black iPhone 7 is the best looking phone I've ever used and it performs like a champ.

Called into my local EE store today, very surprised to see they had the 7 on display.

They had the 7 in JB, and the 7 plus in matte black.

I liked the matte black much more, it is far more classier and higher quality looking, the JB looked very cheap and plasticky, especially from the side when you look at the buttons and speaker grills.

The JB is definitely more grippy though.

Compared them both against my 6s, don't think i am going to bother upgrading, not enough difference, just going to wait until next September when hopefully the 8 comes out and will be a massive upgrade as what is being predicted.

Real shame as that will be three years with the same design phone, which is a real pain as it is a design i don't particularly like anyway.

Have you watched the videos linked above?
In one of them, the guy cleaned the jet black iPhone with his shirt, and it scratched immediately. This is a pretty normal thing to do, especially with all those fingerprints that show up on the jet black. There's no doubt it's gonna scratch if you put it on a table without a case.
You must not live near the beach. Any phone will scratch like that if there is any sand on it or your shirt. I've learned my lesson, that's happened to me several times in the past. If your going to wipe it on your shirt, first blow on it and make sure there's nothing on the phone, then proceed to wipe. Or since it's water resistant, run it under a facet then wipe. Last, you need to make sure there's no sand or dirt in your pockets. I live near the beach, so it's a bit more common for me to find sand grains all over the place so I have to be careful.

I got see both today at Target. They had them set up on the display with the large anti theft attachments so it was a little difficult to get a full view. That being said, I agree the Jet Black has a finish a lot like the 5C. I actually didn't mind the look of the 5C and feel. I would be fine with either color really because I know eventually I will get bored and want to add a case for a speck of color.

Do you guys think switching between cases can scratch the jet black?
Definitely. Dirt and other particles always get stuck between the case and phone as well as under the phone. There's really no way of preventing scratches on the Jet Black if you don't have a skin on it.

Now I've read/watched some reviews for the iPhone 7, and The Verge had a live QA session, in which Nilay shows that the antenna lines on the Matte Black got shinier only after having it in/out of his pockets for a couple of days. As it's plastic black, so it a bit weird.

Can anyone else confirm this difference in colouration for the matte black?

I'm having the same Debate. I listed out all the case/color combos I would consider, and concluded my only option for jet black would be Storm Gray.

Really it comes down to what color front you prefer. That's what you'll see most.

I still have a few weeks to decide, since my Jet Black preorder is due early oct.

I might like the brown to gray change though, so I might stick with what's on order.

One of the reasons to get Jet Black is to annoy OCD people around us.

EDIT: It looks SO good!

The Xiaomi MI5 has a shiny black ceramic back that you would need dynamite to scratch. Too bad it doesn't support Verizon or ATT or Sprint 4G. If Apple comes out with a ceramic phone next year it would be unbelievably good.

The results are in. The matte black is really super nice, by far the best and most refined "conventional" expression of the current iPhone design. The jet black is just stunning, it looks and feels otherworldly, like an artifact that a superior alien species inadvertently left behind. Can't go wrong with either, but I'm going with jet black for sure.

I have had my matte iPhone 7 for 1 day now and I am shocked how stunning it looks in person. It looks even better than in the pictures or videos.
In my opinion, if anyone is hesitating to get the matte one , don't .

I agree with you 1000% !!!! Ever since I watched the apple keynote all I wanted was the jet black. I wasn't able to find one and Best Buy messed up my pre-order. The other day I was able to get a iPhone 7 plus in black from the Apple Store. I'm honestly shocked on how good this phone looks !! I never gave it a chance. Then I've been reading about people that returned there jet black because it shows ever little speck of dust. I will be keeping my black.

I have a matte black 7 plus & it's sharp! I do wish they would of had a deep blue/midnight version like in the mock ops. Could be a future possibility & maybe just missed the cut. In store employees wear deep blue shirts & they have the same color silicone/leather cases so they like the color.

One too many golds, ad a deep blue with a black apple logo next year. Would match my deep sea blue car as well ;)

While they are at it, bring back dark mode! I want black iMessage, & menus! Why they got rid of it in the beta is beyond me.
