When I read my messages on my desktop, it's marked as read on my iPhone, no matter which provider.
Really? Using POP3? You must have some kind of magical POP3 system, because it doesn't work that way for anyone else.

I tried the Storm out today and was unimpressed. The large "click" screen seems to be free floating in the middle of the casing. Looks as if dust could easily get trapped in the grooves. The screen also moves around much more than I expected.

The browser....no. Not even close to as good as the iphone.

Typing....no. Granted, I have been typing on my iphone for almost 2 months now but I picked it up right away. This thing isn't very responsive when typing leaving me to constantly scroll back and delete unwanted characters.

The interface....no. It is intuitive but, leaves much to be desired as far as simplicity and ease of use.

Overall I think my dislike with the phone and the interaction with the UI was caused by the click screen. Sometimes you are required to "click" the screen to get an action, other times you can just touch the screen and get an action. The phone doesn't feel as nice in my hand as the iphone but the overall look isn't bad. I didn't play with the camera but it is 1.2 more megapixels so the nod has to go to the Storm there. Although, my iphone takes some incredible pictures for its size.

In conclusion I am glad I switched to AT&T for the iphone. I was previously a Verizon customer and was going to wait until the Storm came out to make my decision. I'm happy to say I made the right choice even without seeing the Storm.

Add wifi, then it would be a fair fight.

Seriously why is that not there?

funny, because I tested the screen out this Saturday, and I loved the click screen. I did not have to click hard and it seems pretty responsive. I did not like the camera. IMO it was very slow. When you press the button to take a picture, the screen goes black for about 2 seconds. Kinda annoying. Besides that, it's a great phone. Very glad I bought one.

yup. in the recent video that was posted ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT--qj_Gn4w ) between 0:20 - 0:25 you notice he had a bit of difficulty physically pressing down and selecting? this is what was happening to me over and over again.

again, i will say that it has a great screen.
but its not for me...thats for sure.
with the pressing firm and that weird back battery cover thing bugging me when i hold it... its just not for me.

glad you like yours though.

What are you talking about? I never mentioned POP3. Most people don't even use POP anymore.

Do you even have or had an iPhone? I have both devices and both services (at&t and Verizon). Heck, I even have Mobile Me and Exchange. I know the strength and weaknesses of both. For someone who checks email on more than one device, BIS is almost useless and I'd rather deal with the lack of cut and paste than BIS. At least I have total control of my email with the iPhone rather than RIM and the BB.

P.S., Here's a present:

Looks like I'm not the only one who realizes this.

I just read a few post... But have you ever tried BES?

I had an iPhone 3G almost since it launched, and I'm very familiar with how the e-mail works. Unless you use one of the providers on the e-mail setup screen, or Microsoft Exchange, you do not get any sync capabilities. Period. I don't know how else I can try and convey this idea to you, because you don't seem to understand what I'm saying.

Why don't you explain to me how the sync capabilities work, then.

Read the link I posted above. With any other device besides the BB, IMAP accounts will generally sync two ways no matter who the provider is.

Again, read the link to see how RIM does email with BIS. Now, if you check all your email from your BB you probably won't notice. If you check email from multiple devices, including your desktop, it'll drive you nuts. I know this because I deal with it everyday with my BB.

I was just making a point about the serious shortcomings of the BB since you brought up the lack of cut and paste and MMS with the iPhone (which is bad also). Every device has it's flaws. Hopefully, these companies will realize their mistakes and correct them.

All these flaws, I have yet to notice since I upgraded to BES. I delete something in my BlackBerry. It deletes of my E-Mail box...

Edit: Note I have yet to sit down and read this thread, I just skimmed through it... I probably should read it before posting again...

The storm is just terrible

I can't believe Blackberry spent so much money on TV ads, freeway billboards, everything. Practically every other billboard here in San Diego right now is for Blackberry storm.

Yet, with all the hype, the product is garbage. Even if Apple had never released the iphone, they completely missed the mark with the Storm. Typing is IMPOSSIBLE on it, you can't type too fast because you have to PHYSICALLY PRESS DOWN THE screen to type, it's not a touch type. It makes ZERO sense to me, you can see it recognize your finger press, but until you physically touch down...

WHY???! WHY DID THEY DO THAT? Honestly, as an iPhone user, AND a corporate Blackberry 8820 user, I can say I would never trade my 8820 for a Storm. I can type fast on my iPhone and my 8820, but no way on the storm... and that would prevent me from ever wanting one.

How much extra are you paying for BES? Do you provide your on Exchange server?

yes i am. i have the blackberry world edition and i love the iphone but im with verizon and im not gonna switch over. so now that bberry came out with this i think i will seriously consider it.

wow, all that opinion in a day huh?

Apparently it was, because he already returned it. He told me the LEDs behind the action buttons burned out, the battery life was crap, and it was far too buggy.

The led is definitely a defect but the buggy software is due to BB having to downgrade to an earlier version because of a security flaw. From what I am reading, that will be corrected in a couple of weeks OTA, maybe sooner. I just messed with my friends last night and it is indeed slow, but based on the great reviews a month prior to the release, and then all of a sudden a lot of negative reviews, I believe most of the issues will be corrected with the software update.

I don't get all this discussion of the Blackberry vs. the iPhone. The iPhone is the best phone in the world (for me) but it might not be for someone else. Everybody has different needs. I don't get why someone would trash someone else's opinion just because they think the blackberry is better. If the blackberry is a better fit for someone, great.
