Right now I have a BB Curve and have been waiting to compare the Storm and the iPhone. I went to the Verizon store today to check it out. There wasn't a line, nor was the store even particularly busy. Anyway, I got a chance to try it out and talk to another customer who was comparing his iPhone to the Storm. We both agreed that the iPhone wins. I really wanted to check out the media player and the browser. The browser on the storm definitely didn't display pages the way the iPhone does. I would compare it to T-Mobile's G1, which is good, but nowhere near the iPhone. Also, the media player does what it needs to do, but obviously the iPhone has it beat in that area as well. However, I did like that clicking screen.

I love BB for certain reasons but I think I am ready to switch over. I like that I won't have to carry an iPod as well as a phone. And frankly, browsing on my Curve's browser is a joke.

Now that I am the proud owner of a Storm, I can say with certainty that it's not as good as the iPhone. Is it a good phone? Absolutely. I am very satisfied with my decision. I have faith in RIM releasing some software updates soon to address the lagginess, and once they do that it will be a great phone. It's not going to sway any fanboys, but what could? All in all, I'd rather be using the Storm on Verizon than the iPhone on AT&T.

We use all Blackberry at work; right now we're on Alltel. Once the merger happens and they get the Storm...bring it on :)

Well put! After reading your post, I think I may wait a bit more and see what kind of updates RIM will put out. I waited this long, what's another month or two?

Couldn't have said it better myself. I am not buying the phone as some soapbox statement of machine dominance. The simple fact is, I don't want to got the AT&T. So where does that leave me? Verizon's service in SO Cal is excellent. I have been waiting for a phone like this that will do all the things I need it to and have a little style too.

I've had a Treo 600, 650, HTC 5800, Samsung I760, LG Voyager, and I a LG Dare. None of them do everything I need with efficiency. Ordered a Storm today. True Iphone kicks a$$. I had a Touch, lost it 2 weeks ago  and I loved my touch. Facebook app was great, Emails were great, music was great...Will my Storm do that...yes.

So I am content with my purchase and have no urge to compare it to an Iphone. It's like comparing a Lexus to a Toyota. Same parts, one designed better. But that Toyota is really nice too, and in some cases may get better gas mileage, be less prone to theft, and lower maintenance fees.

Funny because my opinion is the opposite of yours. It all boils down to a matter of preference I guess.

The BlackBerry Storm is nothing but BlackBerry's iPhone competition, it's just a copy. Copts are never as good as the original.

So you think the Storm is the better phone, but you'd rather have the iPhone on AT&T?

You know the part I was referring to.

All in all, I'd rather be using the Storm on Verizon than the iPhone on AT&T.

Even you know the storm is a joke, hence your remark. :)

You know what that say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

I was excited about this phone...even considered *gasp* replacing my first gen with it. I went to my local Vodafone store today to try it today and lets just say i was largely disappointed.

First off it wouldn't accept ANY touch input...nothing...nada. The clicky screen also seemed somewhat flimsy and easily moved around. The only thing i managed to get working was screen rotation via accelerometer and even that took a few too many seconds.

The device is also bulky and IMO lacks decent ergonomics

Maybe the unit on display was faulty but suffice it to say i was less than impressed.

I moved on the BB Bold and that was much more solid and responsive and the new UI was cool but the BB interface...seems a little too...linear. Its just scroll scroll scroll. Maybe i've just been spoilt by iPhone's UI

Overall i can see myself using a Bold...with reservation but definitely not the storm

The Storm is far from a joke. I know that it won't sway fanboys, like I said.

Aside from having a big touchscreen and minimal buttons, the Storm is nothing like the iPhone. The UI concepts are completely different, and frankly I like the Storm's better. Since there is a dedicated Menu button, there is no need to have every singe option available on the screen at all times. The iPhone is all about simplicity, while the Storm is all about power. It even has futuristic features like MMS, SMS forwarding, copy and paste, and video recording.

And apps can run in the background.
Apps that you can get from anywhere, without having to hack the phone.

People seem to forget that the iPhone has been out for almost 1.5 years, and has already gone through a major revision. The Storm, as it stands now, is lightyears ahead of the iPhone when it first came out.

You know what else is futuristic? Email on the iPhone syncs two ways! When I read email on my desktop it reflects as read on my iPhone. Can you believe that? Better yet, I can check my email manually with no need to wait 15 minutes. I can even connect to Exchange without paying $15 extra for BES.

Wow, what will they think of next?

What? You don't have to wait 15 minutes or check manually for email on a Blackberry, it gets pushed to you the moment it's in your inbox.

Only if you have gMail, Yahoo or on BES with MS Exchange. Even then, with gMail it's only one way sync. So, to get full two way sync, you need either Yahoo or Exchange.

Wrong!!! Sorry.

When I read my messages on my desktop, it's marked as read on my iPhone, no matter which provider. With the BB, you need either Yahoo or Exchange for two way sync. In other words, those messages will still be marked as new on the BB if I don't have Yahoo mail or Exchange on the BB.

i finally got some hands on with the unit this past weekend.

the screen is great. resolution is slightly better than the iphone, and the user interface sure does show that off.

the touch screen is horrible though.
the whole..big button thing.
biggest problem i had was trying to click things in the corners. felt as if i was breaking my finger trying to get that "click"

blackberries are good phones.
the screen is great.
im still happy with my iphone.

funny, because I tested the screen out this Saturday, and I loved the click screen. I did not have to click hard and it seems pretty responsive. I did not like the camera. IMO it was very slow. When you press the button to take a picture, the screen goes black for about 2 seconds. Kinda annoying. Besides that, it's a great phone. Very glad I bought one.
