It's entirely predictable that PC gamers would pooh-pooh an original Diablo game for mobile.

But it ISN'T an "original" Diablo game.

It is a reskin of a knock off D3 for Android/iOS. Are you familiar with the Diablo franchise? You don't seem to be.

They announced this a BLIZZCON. If they had done it at E3, it wouldn't have gone over like a popcorn fart in church.

How is this game original?

It's not a port of Diablo I, II, or III.

I've played all three of the Diablo installments. III was the only one I didn't complete. They're fun hack/slash games that have some light strategy involved, which is one of the reasons why this genre of game has already appeared so many times on mobile and for iOS. It's a good fit because it's easy to just pick up and play for short periods and there's not that much thinking involved. There are tons of Diablo inspired games on iOS, not just Crusaders of Light. I'm sure Blizzard picked this particular company to partner with because they already had a good grasp of the genre. That's not unusual to do in terms of game development. As for the "reskinned" claim, that will be easily proven/disproven when the game is released. I tend doubt it.

Blizzard used to make great games, now its just "remastering" old games or rehashing old **** for mobile it seems.

So your logic is that the players of the mobile game will in your opinion, never have played the PC version, and that is why they are annoyed?

All these people are nothing more then jumped up PC elitists that for whatever strange reason believe Blizzard exists purely to serve them and them only. And they this time got pushed to the side for the biggest gaming market on the planet and where all the money is.
If I ran Blizzard I’d do the same thing, I’ve no doubt they’ll have a new Diablo 4 in the works too somewhere. And I bet half of these PC gamers will play the mobile version anyway.

You live in a world of shareholders now, we have many Apple shareholders on this site, they don’t really care about quality all they care about is a return on their investment, hence why Cook drove Apple to be a profit machine, just like what Blizzard are doing, it they have shareholders?

Sure, it makes sense from a business point of view. But it's just sad otherwise. I think it's unfair that there's more money to be made in the mobil game business than in the PC game business. Mobile games are casual, they're less involved and much less well designed games compared to PC games. But for some reason, they make more money, I guess because people nowadays don't want to get involved, they want to play for 3 minutes to distract themselves while they wait for they boyfriend to answer their message on Facebook, rather than spend 5 hours to sit down and play the hell out of their favorite game that they've been getting better and better at for the past 2 years.

This game isn't even made by Blizzard, it's outsourced to a Chinese company? This is very unlike Blizzard...

I hope it is a one-time purchase, if so, then please TAKE MY MONEY!

But the other model makes companies so much money, it would be hard for them not to go that way.

If Warcraft III is coming back can someone also reboot Command and Conquer please?

For what it's worth, you can still play most of the C&C games to this day. I know people who still play Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 1. I've even had a go at Dune II in DOSBOX for some nostalgia, though it's incredibly easy by today's standards.

For World of Warcraft you can buy tokens that can be used towards 1-month of subscription time or $15 (or more? I stopped WoW a couple of years ago) towards the in-game store towards cosmetics, so in a sense they "kinda" have an option where you can pay to play.
Pay to play in the sense of subscription. I personally don't have a problem with pay to play. It's pay to win that I object to... and at least with WoW there's none of that. Hearthstone might be another matter.

I hate to admit it but iap works. I have spent more money on a game than I would have bought the game for. All I ask is the game is playable without any purchase.

I totally understand why hard-core PC gamers are in a rage and they have my sympathy. But, like several here on MacRumors are experiencing with some Apple products, sometimes the world moves on and we find ourselves no longer the target audience. The Diablo series is a favorite of mine and I'll probably purchase it. It'll be interesting to compare the game play to the Xbox and Switch.

How do landscape iOS games play with the notch taking out a chunk of the screen? Or is the playable area letterboxed from the bottom part of the notch (which would also mean similar area is taken off from the other side as well?)

As such, I did think that bezels made sense for virtual buttons, because you can't really tap comfortably around the extreme lower corners when the phone is held in a landscape mode. Perhaps devs push the buttons a little on the inside where it's comfortable for the thumbs?

Not at all. The release of the iPad is not a detriment to the Mac. [...] Whereas when people waiting many years for a PC game are given... a mobile game, and "no plans" for a PC game, that's disappointing. It means that not only is their favorite franchise probably dead, the developers don't even realize why people aren't happy about it.
Except the „no plans for a PC game“ is not true. Blizzard confirmed that there are multiple Diablo games in the works, and it was never the plan to abandon PC for iOS. It‘s the same when people cry FFS „we never get a new iMac" just because Apple released a new MacBook Air instead of their favourite machine. Honestly, sometimes it‘s like listening to entitled 4-year-olds who are mad because somebody else got their favourite lollipop first. A passionate fan base should be better than that, IMO.

multiple Diablo games in the works
Should edit that as I am almost certain that they indicating they are working on several Diablo related projects. That doesn't necessarily mean that those projects are games. That could mean novels, comics, a mini web series similar to what has been seen with World of Warcraft.. It's also long been rumoured that a Diablo series is in the planning stages but with Blizzard we never know until they confirm things.

Inorite?! If you know Blizzard, they love IAP (their in-game store for example). Blizzard isn't shy charging players $25 for a mount so this makes a lot of sense.

A little perspective on this. Yes, there are 12 mounts you can buy with cash. There are also literally hundreds of mounts you can get in game for no cost beyond your monthly subscription.

I really don’t see them offering a few mounts for cash as a sign of avarice.

This is the most positive spin on this I've ever heard, no mention of the tsunami of hatred that accompanied the announcement.

We need more quality iOS titles, I've personally not had much luck with iOS gaming although I do try a lot of titles.

Everything's so clunky I feel. Wish Apple would bring out a controller so developers could design better games around it.

Pretty ridiculous how much hate is going on over this title. It would be bizarre if, coming 2019, Blizzard didn't put out a mobile title or two.

How dim would you have to be to not expect and support that.

Gameloft have been releasing shameless clones of Diablo on iOS for years, so I guess this makes sense. I'd like to believe it will be a stand alone product for a regular console game price tag, but we all know it will be "free", and rammed to the eyeballs with adverts and in-app purchases for tat nobody cares about.

I very rarely touch iOS games (I have a PS4 and a Switch), but whenever I do I feel like a need a shower afterwards. The app store is the sewer of gaming. It creates nausea pretty much instantly.
