No, Apple must release new devices each year, that is the business (cash cow) it has become. Not the business customers want.
I disagree. Do you remember all the complaints from having to buy Macs with 1+ year old CPUs for the same price as release date? That sucked... I will take the yearly upgraded internals any day. Software is another matter, but hardware absolutely at least yearly (wish it was more like PC manufacturers do)

There’s been a lot of smoke around the glucose sensor especially this year. I still believe it’s coming. If not, certainly some new major feature is.

A redesign alone isn’t going to cut it. Apple always introduces at least one new feature.

Series 2: Big speed upgrade and waterproofing/swimming
Series 3: GPS (been a while but I thought gps on the lower end models was the new thing)
Series 4: ECG
Series 5: Always on Display
Series 6: Oxygen levels
Series 7: Just looks? I don’t think so…
You missed a big one, fall detection

I really liked the design leaks and the display closer to the surface sounds great, but I don‘t think there is any feature mentioned in this new rumour that would necessitate a thicker Watch?
Improved sensors or a bigger battery?

Same thought. Lack of new sensors. Last year, they had the always on, O2 meter and altitude meter, so there was a reason to upgrade.
Sounds like this year is more of a physical form change, a redesign. As such, new sensors would probably be introduced next year.

I’m not sure many people would be upgrading their Apple Watch on a yearly basis anyway.

I think the only thing I’d want to see vs my series 4 is a refreshed look (which it seems we’re getting) and faster charging. The battery is good enough but when it needs charging I want it charged much faster.

Other than those I don’t really see the need for much more. The ECG seemed cool when it was announced but really how often do people say “ ooh I best run an ECG today?”

Stop complaining everybody. Thanks to our demanding attitudes Apple has to launch new iPhones, Watches and iPads every year.

Remember when they took 3 years to develop an Mac OS X release? But now we want MORE, MORE, MORE. FASTER, FASTER, FASTER.

We're never satisfied. Even if Apple would launch an Apple Watch that could fly us to the moon, you guys would complain wHy iT dOeSn'T fLy uS tO mArS.
I wish they still took that long. Mac OS is a buggy mess. Truly horrible to use.

I just want better battery life. I hate feeling like I have to be super conservative on what features to use, just so I can make it to the end of the day.
Ditto. I don't feel I'm a heavy user other than the fitness/workout aspect, but still every day I end up with about 10-15% left on my 5 (and had about the same results on my 4, 1 and zero versions).

Why didn't they make the bezel thinner, I mean some upgrade or changes feel like a way to keep customers wanting for more, which is as I understand a strategy to sell new products every 2 years or so but this comes at the expenses of customers, I love apple product but the way they release they products &/or OS s**** all that to make more $$$.

Now I understand why some people are saying that Apple no longer cares about bringing great products to customers but make more $$$, I know they are pioneers in a lot of areas such as user privacy, User experience & comfort but, the way they do it is too greedy and feels a little deceitful sometimes.

I have always felt like Apple, etc, already have products, designs & so forth planned and they just keep some for the next year so they will have something new each year for customers to spend more. That behavior keels innovation in my opinion (not that it worths a cent). Today I buy an apple watch with large bezels, two years later a new version with thin bezels and next we'll have bezel less model.

For instance the MacBook air, all this year with those awful bezels, they oh let's give a black thinner bezel now, why not before geez.

Anyway, just my 2 cents thought of today.

Needed to get a new one ever since the “not enough storage” prompt started showing up on my series 3 whenever I want to update it.

Doesn’t really matter what else it does, but the redesign will make me get the series 7 instead of a cheaper alternative.

For me, Series 7 would be the best upgrade of them all.
Who cares about my oxygen levels. Useless feature. I can breath normally since birth.

But thinner bezels is awesome. The current bezels look ok on black background, but not when using the photo watch face. I'm really looking forward to the Series 7 if these rumors are true.

If Apple can kill the S3 & move the SE pricing closer to - or the same as - the $199, then this is an exciting year for the Watch, as Apple is going to sell ridiculous amounts of the SE.

I think that this is going to be the real story of the Watch in 2021

As for S7 - you’d have to expect that Covid has really compromised the testing and validation that they’d need to do to include new biometrics.

Ditto a redesign and product production validations. We’re surely going to need to wait until the Touch ID through the display is ready for that.

If the S7 improves on the battery life of the S6, then that’s a very good thing.

As for those that want upgrades… I’ve long thought that from S4 onwards, Apple expects watch owners to upgrade every 3 years or so.

If it's true this sucks. I'll wait until next year to upgrade.

Sort out your R&D Apple, you have enough money for just a body temperature sensor for goodness sake.
how do you expect to get an accurate body temp reading from the wrist?

noooo. Blood sugar level reading not likely for several more years.....Waiting "several more years" for anything positive that's diabetic related seems to be all we diabetics do...However the several more years never seems to come to an end....
I remember one of my colleagues who had T1D telling me 25 years ago that there would be a cure in his lifetime, sadly that wasn't the case.

Having said that there do seem to be much better insulin options and less invasive testing now, my son who has T1D is able to manage his blood sugar well.

I wouldn't say oxygen level is useless. Said level can be helpful in many ways. I wouldn't put thinner bezels above pulse ox but, to each his or her own opinion.

What is likely to get me to upgrade from my Series 5 isn’t the introduction of thinner bezels or additional health sensors, but rather the form factor. The current form is fine, where at least to me it’s more about the function of the Watch, not the form, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have both. Just like with the current iPhone and iPad Pro designs, the flat edges have a stronger look and in stainless or titanium could be very stunning.

I will buy Glucose monitoring but others are not Apple-like.... they will not have wrist covering display and extra thick wrist bands.... Apple is quite conservative with their product design and those you suggested are a bit radical.
Radical? I standard stainless steel band has plenty of space to put an additional battery which could extend the battery life by a factor of x2. There are already smart bands as the one you can see below. I see a lot of potential here.

As regards the curved display that goes around your wrist, there are many concepts and with the current technology many of these are feasible. Making the display bigger creates tremendous opportunities for app developers.
