Few years ago I was suspicious on why Apple is being so slow with innovating their own products and ecosystem, now I'm just sure that's on a purpose... and it doesn't look well for me. I expect much more from a billion status Apple. If you gonna charge me so much, at least let's be even. I have my demands too, Apple and I'm telling you.. you're getting to suck really good in 2021.. That's my general view on the tech industry right now.

Well yeah if you want the latest tech in innovation and features android is the best bet. Samsung and xiaomi and bringing the big features and tech first but people need to realise that’s how it will always be

If macOS is never going to get touch screens because it's designed with click targets that are frequently too small, then Apple needs to allow iPadOS to spread its wings. Let iPads connect to external monitors and use those *as* external monitors, receiving touch from those monitors if the monitor is capable. Let the iPad actually become the future of computing, like Tim Cook keeps saying it is.
You forget, Apple is a marketing machine first and foremost. It’s primary goal is to maximize profits. You see this in EVERYTHING they do. Why give us all these features at once when they can trickle them in and make us want a new device every year? Why make it standard when they can make them luxury upgrades tied in with other add-ins? Best approach is to view where they are at every five years because marketing will never let them just go all out on a device unless of course if it costs some ridiculous amount like the Mac Pro. If everyone waited five years to upgrade their stuff, it would force Apple to stop this yearly circus event where adding something basic is the best thing for users ever!

In terms of technology, there's much more to be done. I'm speaking about what motivates those companies to do what they do. Is the profit, not the desire to improve our well-being, at least this is sort of secondary thing, sometimes it's just a side effect - it happens so that the technology is good for the people. But the tech we use now has only one purpose, to enslave us, not to liberate us.. and that's frustrating.. it's all about the damn coins.. that how our progress is measured, our human life as well. What I want from Apple is to do a tech that really matters for people needs and well being, which means it should be affordable for everyone and here our paths separates.. Apple is after the profit, not neccesarily our well-being. Let's be honest to ourselves. I want to see that change in those companies' mindset. Then we can have real talk, not the never ending "monologues"..

Improvements to Multitasking needs to include work on multiple documents within one app. Like tabs on the Mac.

it’s nuts on a “pro” device we have to continually open and close files to do basic, common multi-file workflows.

the other thing we need on iPadOS is some type of “menu system” It doesn’t have to copy the Mac and should be reimagined for tablets, but dumpimg everything in the ”share” menu is sloppy and lazy.

App developers could implement their own tabs and custom gestures in their apps and multiple docs any time they want, just like web browsers keep multiple html documents in tabs now. Though a system tab widget/gesture helper framework could make it more homogenous across apps.

The relationship between Apple and Samsung has evolved over the past decade, but increasingly it seems that high end Samsung devices are essentially prototypes for Apple. E.g. Samsung likely will supply the displays for a future folding iPhone and/or iPad. Foldable screens have improved from the awful original Galaxy Fold and will be good by the time Apple incorporates them.

Agreed on tabs becoming standard. But you do have a limited way of using multiple documents now, just drag the app icon in to create the split screen. And drag/drop works between them, etc. Of course this combined with tabs would be ideal.

I'm guessing there would need to be some synergy between the two- ability to drag items from one tab to another, etc...

I wish there could be a screen more like a dynamic ‘office wall’ where you could just stick stuff. A bit like stickies on macos but you can put anything. Write directly on it, pin a photo to it, a post-it, a text snippet, a file, an app shortcut - whatever. So you have your homescreen(s), you swipe right for the wall, you swipe again for the app drawer (though this should be reimagined for ipados).

I wish when you swipe down that overlay is just one screen which encompasses everything that is currently separate- compacted notifications, a more customisable control center, spotlight and expose.

‘I wish’ is probably the appropriate term though..

iPadOS seems a little chaotic. This will now be the third time they overhaul multitasking? Hopefully they nail it this time
Small screens tend to limit you what you can do. It's a interesting challenge to allow multitasking on a iPad with split screens representations looking like iPhone screens to be used in a similar fashion to say a MacBook Air. The original Macs had similar difficulties their small screens with MacOS before Mac OS X. Remember switcher?

Anyway I have been using IPadOS for awhile, I await how Apple has improved multitasking with iPadOS in version 15.

This wwdc is most least leaked apple event I ever remember. After all, I assume that software rumor is much harder to leak compared to hardware rumor because it has no factory at all. (Plus, apple employee all work on home, making it more hard to leak anything)

Personally, I think this might be one of the biggest wwdc we ever seen. Apple announced lossless apple music, and tons of accessibility software function ahead of this wwdc. Normally, these functions are announced during keynote of wwdc. But this year, they didn’t. This might be the sign that they have not enough time to announce accessibility functions because 2 hours keynote was already packed.
Lol that is doubtful. Seems it is going to be an S year in terms of software so nothing groundbreaking. IOS and especially IpadOS have plenty to be added to help push them, but it seems Apple isn't too focused on those things. I mean like others have said, why put all that ram and the M1 chip if they aren't going to take advantage of it somewhat? We will see Monday (and I know there is usually more to what apple puts out), but new notifications and improved multi-tasking (which should have been done years ago on the ipad) are pretty weak.

Neither of those things are weak at all, they are welcomed. But let’s just hope that’s not all there is!! (Ipados specifically)

(Don’t forget ipados os is only 3 years old - ‘years ago’ is relative, let’s be fair)

I’ll start out by saying I love Apple and their products. I’m sure I will get raked over the coals for this, but I think that iOS is just starting to get stale. I think WWDC 20 was just very bland for the iOS. We have a new App Library, yay. Is it nice? Yes! Is it ground breaking? No. I want to be Wowed. Just seems like iOS anymore is playing catch up to android. And I hate to say that, because I hate Android. I really hope Monday knocks my socks off, but sadly I am not holding my breath. Here is to hoping!

iPad M1 owners, be prepared to be disappointed.
Yeah, I returned my Ipad Pro 12.9 min-led (hit my 14 day return window Friday). One of those times, I just wished something had shipped a few days late.

And returned not because it is not an great Ipad (even with its blooming) but just right now it just a nice big Iphone (with no cellular) with key, track-pad and mouse (at hundreds of $ extra). I was a little underwhelmed using as a laptop for all the extra cost. Apple got a lot of work ahead to exploit that M1.extra ram, and large SSD.

So just too much risk of nothing happening to IpadOS this year to justify it over a Macbook Pro with the future mini-led screen also. My fear is that they will just announce a few key, long desired content creation pro apps with little underlyig OS changes. For some, that will be enough to justify a portable device.

Maybe Apple should have let out a few more leaks out to encourage us beyond the widgets and a few key apps. Hope we are all surprised next Monday. I can always buy again.

I am super excited for this update. I’ve been using my iPad Pro 12.9 as my main device and damn is this screen GORGEOUS. Any OS updates are very welcomed. I would appreciate a more streamlined approach to using several apps simultaneously.

But, but, but .... Think Different? WWSteveJobsDo? to break and re-create the market??

I'll jump to Apple beyond phone and maybe pad when I can buy a 2-in-1 MacBook.

For the iPad, Apple plans to revamp the home screen and support the placement of widgets -- snippets of dynamic information like calendar, weather, and stocks -- anywhere on the screen

Looking forward to this, should've happened last year. 😃

Yeah - Apple Robert also pointed this out to me. Between Costco and Apple’s expanded holiday return window, I thought it was 30 days. Oh well, I guess I’m stuck with this damn 12.9” 16/1 IPP…life is indeed rough. ;-)
Ouch, sorry, I just returned my IPP 12.9 Friday for lack of any known roadmaps for Ipad M1 exploitation. I am sure it will come, just not when. Felt bad about it, but just too much risk, with nothing really leaked on IpadOS 15. And the hopefully new Macbook Pro with mini-led screens available soon just seem a safer bet, if you don't really need the touch screen/pen.

I'm certainly not going to rake you over any coals, but I will play Devil's Advocate a bit. I think that Apple is in a tough position with the expectations of its users to be continuously 'wowed' and blown away. At this point iOS is a fairly mature operating system, and its added features seem to be at the point of diminishing returns. I'm not sure if that's Apple's fault for not being able to continue pressing forward and innovating, or if iOS just already has all (or most of) the fundamental features that one would need in a phone's OS.

Personally I can't really think of a whole lot that I want to be able to do on my phone that I'm limited by the OS from doing. They do try to put in a few fun, gimmicky new features but then they catch a ton of flack for adding stuff that is seen by many as useless and superfluous (e.g. Memoji). Someone suggested pushing it forward with split-screen multitasking, but.... I don't know. I would find that cramped and pointless even on my 6.7" 12 Pro Max. Perhaps you would want to be wowed with a new design overhaul, or something like that?

Hope we can remove home bar on iPhone
This ^ 😍

Remove the home bar from everything.

They go through all that trouble of bending the oled panel behind the bottom of the display so they can have the smallest chin on the market, then every time you look down you see that hideous, smelly, putrid, feral home bar. 🤢🤮

At least give us the option to hide it. 🥺

This is not enough. It is ridiculing users that bought the M1 iPad Pro. The iPad is actually Apple’s best computer. These changes are a F tard.

Thunderbolt and WiFi 6/5G isn’t valid. At least not yet and marginal.

The software is difficult. There is no actual file system, multitasking, terminal/command line, torrents app, multimedia codecs, multi-screen dynamism, and window management.

The software still doesn’t solve many visual cues about the status of its progress. ( a downloading or status indicator) It is the same iPad experience that has been years in the making.

These rumored changes compound scorn and a deliberate choice of stunting the platform.

The user experience is stagnant and regnantly in Apple’s control and favor. It is a beautiful machine, and just like the protectionist measures of the original Mac, the iPad exhibits the exact boastful nature that allowed the Mac to be sidelined. Hubris is a megalomaniac trait. Open up the damn operating system for F sake, Apple.
It really is sad and it really is their best computer in lots of ways, but just a toy OS for now. I knew it was a bad first sign with I had to turn the Ipad into portrait mode to setup face id. And the 12.9 with the Magic keyboard just really make it more obvious is not really a laptop replacement. You can make it work, more or less, but is painful and seems almost silly (esp when you have to turn your head sideways) and extremely top heavy. Heck, even with the front camera still on the side in landscape shows Apple current thinking, I fear. And the apps that still only run in portrait mode- really? It is still just a pad not matter how much you dress it up, I guess. The "pad" name is def self-fulfilling. Wonder if it will stay that way?

"This is the way." Oh, that is Disney not Apple.

I think your expectations may need to be adjusted, Hope. What exactly do you need your phone to do that it can't already do for you on a daily basis?

As advanced as technology has become, I think people need to realize the 'wow' factor that takes your tech breath away is going to happen less often than it did early on. At this point, we have been getting refinement and while that may not sit well for many (including myself at times) I think we need to be content and enjoy what we have been able to use over the last several years versus decades ago.
