i want full featured apps. not that widget crap. i was so excited when i bought my first ipad pro. but 3 years later apple core apps still have less features on ipados than on macos. like Fotos App (smartalbums tagging etc) , Music App, Mail (rules) etc.
I am afraid we will continue to get more app bang for our buck with third party apps than with Apple apps. You would think otherwise but, from what I have seen over the years (as a whole) that hasn't been the case.

Hopefully Apple will finally relent and implement widowed apps. It shouldn’t be too difficult since those can just use the iPhone layout instead.

Does anyone really care about widgets? It was popularized on the Mac and it was a complete failure. Who cares about widgets? It is so inconsequential. What about file system, multitasking, terminal/command line, torrents app, multimedia codecs, multi-screen dynamism, and window management. Obviously this is outside of control.
The ones I really care about are useless to me after a couple days when they either require a login to the actual app or show stale data until I login to the actual app. Why can't widgets remember account info of the main app?

Seems useless to have a widget for quick view of info but have to launch the app to log into the service!

I'm a bit confused here. There is a local shared/public folder, in Files it's called "On my iPad", I can save a .GIF in it (or in a subfolder I create) with KeyNote and then in iMovie I can use the file picker to navigate to any folder there and open it. It seems like a version of My Documents on PCs. Firefox saves to a Downloads folder there as well.

I always thought it was an issue of apps not supporting it and not implementing file pickers/save dialogs rather than Apple not giving access. Am I missing something?

And anything in iCloud can absolutely be downloaded locally and as you state, used within multiple apps. The little cloud icon means it’s on the server but not downloaded locally. Just tap it and it’ll download and be available offline. There’s ”long press” context menus and an info panel. I can connect to a range of servers, online cloud storage providers and HDD’s/ USB drives. I’m really struggling to understand what people mean by “lack of a real file system”….unless it’s something they’ve read and are regurgitating without due process.

I haven't really made use of widgets on the iPad. I use them a little on the phone.
I use the Google Calendar widget all the time for school. I also use my Apple Calendar for personal stuff and use the weather widgets across all devices. I’m excited for the redesigned Home Screen but it’s sounding more and more like iPadOS 15 will not be the step change many were expecting. I’m happy to have my assumptions proven wrong on Monday but my gut says it will be more minor tweaks to iPadOS and Apple will leave the heavy changes up to developers to take advantage of the M1 iPad Pros.

Since I wear my Apple Watch all the time, I use that the most to check my Fantastical calendar and make changes as the natural language support is superb.

I agree about Monday. There are gong to be a lot of angry and disappointed MR members out for Apple blood and questioning why they were even born to live through such dire events.

I just wish apple would take what android has for multitasking. Even on their tab s7 plus it kills the iPad in multasking options. Apple needs to add 3 apps side by side and pop up windows and a similar files system. Far better way to move things forward.
That would be a game changer for the iPad.

Well done Mark - you’ve predicted the same thing we all did the moment we saw an iPad with 16GB of RAM.

I’m surprised he isn’t predicting X-Code on iPad too.

I think it would need proper external monitor support to really make use of that.

This wwdc is most least leaked apple event I ever remember. After all, I assume that software rumor is much harder to leak compared to hardware rumor because it has no factory at all. (Plus, apple employee all work on home, making it more hard to leak anything)

Personally, I think this might be one of the biggest wwdc we ever seen. Apple announced lossless apple music, and tons of accessibility software function ahead of this wwdc. Normally, these functions are announced during keynote of wwdc. But this year, they didn’t. This might be the sign that they have not enough time to announce accessibility functions because 2 hours keynote was already packed.
iOS 7 WWDC was da most leaked

I think your expectations may need to be adjusted, Hope. What exactly do you need your phone to do that it can't already do for you on a daily basis?

As advanced as technology has become, I think people need to realize the 'wow' factor that takes your tech breath away is going to happen less often than it did early on. At this point, we have been getting refinement and while that may not sit well for many (including myself at times) I think we need to be content and enjoy what we have been able to use over the last several years versus decades ago.
I agree with you in part, but also technology is constantly moving forward. Are there plateaus? Yes. But we have been on one for a long time. Would a design overhaul be good? Yes. Look at macOS it wowed me last year. They updated the icons, made some new bells and whistles. Threw in a Rosetta Stone here and there. And I agree the take your breath away moments are going to dwindle, but when was the last time we have really had one? I remember the early days of OS X and each advancement the next dot number upgrade was. There is always room for betterment. Always room for that next tweak. Should we not expect that from apple? The company was built on that. Why buy and iPhone 13 when it’s OS still looks like when you bought an iPhone 7 or 8. Change is sometimes good, and refreshing. Maybe, just maybe, we will be wowed Monday. More than likely I won’t be, but I will still be a fan and still buy their products :). In the end to them I guess that’s all that matters :)

It sounds like you aren't part of the change for the sake of change crowd, which is a good thing.

Apple does need to keep moving forward for a variety of reasons, which I think we both know so I won't waste time with that. I think the thing that many people (even myself at times) fail to remember is that Apple is constantly at work with designing new features. And often times, they appear to be going at snail pace to us, when in in reality, they are working on a bigger integration aspect of a new feature than we realize at the time.

My biggest gripe with MacOS lately, is Apple releasing features that aren't full-fledged and work like they are half-cooked. I would rather Apple not announce a feature, than release it and it not work as it should as promised months and months later. That puts too much pressure on the developers and units to push out an OS that isn't really ready. Catalina was a mess when it was released and ended up staying that way from my experience.

I look forward to a fun time on here Monday, as well as being surprised by some things. And even more than that, I look forward to buying the next Apple product that ends up making a real impact in my life.

watchOS 8 will include improved health tracking features and "interface improvements.
I hate it when these "leakers" like Mark Gurman and Jon Prosser are constantly so vague and Macrumors treats them like some sort of prophet who can predict the future. If Gurman is so sure about what is coming with his boastful attitude, then he should SPECIFICALLY SAY WHAT THE IMPROVED HEALTH TRACKING FEATURES ARE (for example glucose tracking, water intake etc -- BE SPECIFIC) and also exactly what the "interface improvements" are. I hate it when these people throw **** at the wall and say common things that everyone knows; I mean I can be a leaker and say I know that "the next generation iPhone is going to be faster" - this is the same logic as the next OS having "interface improvements".

The valid leakers do that to better protect their source(s).

We think a lot a like lol. I think one thing on here that posters need to realize is that iOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS 12, and whatever else has been developed during the pandemic. Meaning most of it has probably been coded from home. Hence there probably will not be that many new features and more iOS 14 polishes.
I agree with you on the half baked applications. I love the fact that Apple is creating their own silicon, but perturbed with the fact that they said they originally weren’t going to merge iPad and MacBooks and here we are. I think each product is great on its own, but iPad apps on MacBooks is kinda well pointless to me. It loses its “magic”. But again, that could just be me thinking. I love having these cordial discussions :)

Thinking like me could be a good or bad thing on here, depending on who you ask or chimes in. lol :D

You brought up an excellent point about many teams having to code from home. As such, we need to be prepared to see more bugs than normal with the betas and even the final release. It's not the time to bad mouth Apple after what we all just went through the last 1.5 years (I now loath masks).

In regards to merging of Mac and iPad, I believe Apple will stay true to their current stance of not wanting to actually do a merge. The so-called 'buzz' in regards to iOS apps being available on the Mac was really nothing more than Apple speak to developers to create and allow apps that will run correctly on both platforms without a person having to spend money for both versions. The problem is most developers have chosen (for whatever reason) to not make that available. And of course, that sent many on here and elsewhere on the internet into a downward spiral of resentment and anger that Apple failed to follow through when it was always up to the developer.

I would be fine if Apple went to a 2 year cycle. That would take the pressure off developers and give people more time to test and refine. The problem is Apple has trained so many customers and media that it should happen every year, that if it didn't, the doom and gloom Apple rhetoric would commence.

I too enjoy conversations like this where ideas are exchanged without insult. It makes for a nice evening of insight and intellectual stimulation. :)

There is a video of Steve Jobs explaining how they had to kill OS7/8/9 because it was built for a different era and as things got developed they kept adding and adding things to it until it became a bloat, I believe he resembled it to a helicopter with a lot of add-ons that can hardly lift itself.

Then he launched OS X and had an OS9 funeral.

All sounds pretty underwhelming and head scratchers **** wasn’t in a decade ago.

Widgets really? That something to brag about? That’s were we at right now with iPad OS.
