So this sounds like a mass disconnect rather than an off switch. Meh.

I do like the addition of a cellular switch. Sometimes I want to cycle cellular without losing connection to a BT device, and it looks like you can now do that.

I thought this was a bug during the beta versions.

Probably has do with Apple wanting those with an Apple Watch to no longer have to remember to Bluetooth back on as in ios10. My wife does that all the time.

Annoying. An option in settings for this would be better Apple.

Finally.
I work in a support center and all users disable BT without knowing how iOS use it, then blame Apple for non working feature like AirDrop.
As a tech support I say: best feature ever
So people are saying that if one is using an app that needs Bluetooth to work, an error message does not immediately appear saying something like "Bluetooth is disabled. Do you want to enable it?"

What a wonderful OS.

In regards to the buttons, there is a difference if it turned off or just not allowed to connect. The former has a slash through it, the latter is just grayed out.
Yeah, I know, but for most people once the colour drains out of them they'll think they're off I suspect.

If you had to get a flight at 2am why didn't you just stay up? I don't think I've been bed earlier than 2am for about 2 years.

I chose to go to bed at 8 PM to get up for the 2 AM flight. Normally I'd go to bed between 10 PM and midnight and get up at 6 or 7, so going to bed two hours earlier than my normal early wasn't too bad.

As with the file management app, unfortunately Android beats iOS hands down - when you turn off bluetooth in the control centre it actually turns it off. So, now we have to open settings go into networking and turn it on and off there? Why make things worse?

This has to be the stupidest thing I have read in a long while. Apple is not benefiting from downgrading the battery life experience on a iPhone.. Far from it, that would make it much easier for people to reconsider other brands if they feel Apple is not up to par on battery life.

And do you even know how small amount of battery life WiFi and Bluetooth actually uses? Having them activated doesn't make any difference, and using WiFi for data over LTE actually consumes less.... And bluetooth doesn't really use anything at all unless you constantly transmit data and if you are constantly transmitting large amount of data over bluetooth you have to be connected to something and constantly transferring so why would you want it disabled if you have uses cases like that?

Are you trying to tell me that loading ads and communicating tracking data doesn't use up the battery?

And regarding wifi vs. LTE energy draw, you have stated the obvious. Now take a step back and realize that when someone turns wifi OFF it is because either there are no wifi networks in range or that person doesn't want to connect to a wifi network.

Example: I have my iPhone set to only download app updates over wifi. If I need to save battery I don't want that to happen. In such a case wifi connections would absolutely use more energy than LTE. I don't let all sorts of apps run in the background so if wifi is off then LTE is primarily used for calls and texts.

Apple have also suggested what you should eat for breakfast, to give you the best experience while simultaneously using your iPhone. Apple will automatically force three croissants and two cups of english breakfast tea each time you unlock your iphone.

Apple knows best

A more elegant solution would be to throw a dialog in the event of someone trying to use AirDrop and ask if user wants to enable BT.

Yeah clown electricity has just return and need a little break now go and enjoy your stupid phone.

Geez some people are just plain heartless...

Manténgase a salvo.

In addition to not being able to apparently turn wifi off the usual way ive done for years, my battery life on my ipad mini 4 has tanked after updating.

My iphone, ipad pro, ipod touch and apple watch will not be updating until i see an improvement on my ipad mini. Im increasingl6 likely to switch to samsung if these apple updates contine to deteriote my ios experience. I cant even swipe quickly to check my mail anymore. I hav3 to carefully hold and drag the peic3 of rubbishto get something equating to slide over. What a mess.

Nope... that's the annoying part.
I'd really want the previous behavior. This "feature" is completely useless for a "pro" user and I though it was a bug for 8 betas.

Also: why not to put a flag into settings to restore the complete switch off instead of this. Apple, wtf are you doing?!

How about 3d touch the settings icon.... Can you still get to wifi or bluetooth that way?

I have to google translate that. :)

This will be annoying for Airpods, where I constantly have to turn Bluetooth off to get them to save battery.
What? I discovered even in IOS 10 that the Airpods still waste battery regardless of any device using Bluetooth or not. The only way to not waste it is to put them back in the charger case.

Once paired the Airpods will continue wasting battery if they are not inside the charger case. It seems the signal is still being broadcasted, even if you turn all your devices off.

Unfortunately yes. You can toggle the wifi off in control center then go to settings and check on wifi setting. Wifi setting is still on. Same as bluetooth.

The difference is the icon in control center. When the wifi and bluetooth are "completely off" (disable from settings), the control center icon will be grayed out and crossed out.View attachment 719350 View attachment 719351

Apple says users should try to keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on for the best experience on an iOS device.

Ah, so I assume the 'Turn on Bluetooth to improve location accuracy' pop-up is still very much a thing in iOS 11? Excellent.

If I leave them connected they’re dead by the end of the day, if I turn Bluetooth off they’ have bout 40% battery left... good enough to get home on.

Thought my Apple Watch doesn’t like that.

I’m going to sell them and buy Sony’s new ones though as they have ANC.
