I love that it doesn't toggle off automatically now. Often times at work I'll be checking texts and things during break with headphones still connected. Then when I clock back in I put it on airplane mode, but because the bluetooth disconnects, I have to reconnect my phones. It only takes a moment, but it was also annoying to have to do so, especially since it would stop my music too.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Someone reached and pulled that straight out of their ass.

Nah the other person who replied actually is talking sense, 5am is before most people get up in the morning but is after the time those with unusual days which see them going to bed later and getting up later have usually gone to bed. You will never have a perfect time but 5am is about as close as you can get

Seems quite late for that. I know people who wake up at 4 AM on a regular basis. I think the earliest I've ever needed to be up was 2 AM to catch a flight. Seems somewhere between 2 and 4 would work better for that purpose.

Nah I for one am up most days until 3-4am and it’s more and more common with the shrinking world due to tech and the new industries that have developed due to that. I'm from the UK and I have clients in both the US and Australia so I’m catching the Australians at the start of their business day often with the more meeting and planning part of my work with them and it’s also outside the US business hours which is when some of my work has to be done as they can’t afford disruption inside normal business hours.

And when I’m working I will often have twitch on my tv and you see a number of pro European streamers who stream through European evenings and into the early mornings so as to be able to grab some of the North American peak viewership. And there are plenty of jobs now where that’s the case.

No, it’s not. I think you do have to go into the actual settings to turn it back on though. Either way, it IS possible to use Bluetooth in airplane mode.

and also, I've found that turning air plane mode on will remember if you had wifi and bluetooth on last time you used this feature and will keep both the way they were configured.

An incredible zero times.
I turn the WiFi off all the time - the phone tries to jump between Cellular and WiFi all the time, dropping calls in the flux.

Even at one or two bars, my Cellular signal holds onto a link when I am talking on the phone. I turn the WiFi on only to download large files - like updates. Do not know if that makes a difference, but not having the WiFi on definitely improves my telephone calls.

Now I understand why the battery goes down fast...
No kidding. My and my wife’s battery stinks since putting 11 on our iPhones. 6 and 6 plus. Her 6 is about crapped out so she will be getting a new 8 plus so hopefully for her battery life will be better.

Right, because every time I walk out of the house and into the subway or want to save battery life because I only ever use Bluetooth to open the office door, I really just meant to disconnect from what I'm already connected to.

Now I have to dig 6 taps deep into settings to do something I do a dozen times every day. Thanks, Apple. Major improvement to user experience there.

WTF is with the 5am thing? I understand all the rest of it, but if I want to turn off my connections I want them off until I say otherwise, not until some arbitrary time in the future!

I thought it said it would stop any further connections?

This annoys me. Add a 3D touch option to turn it off. Thanks.
There is one. 3D touch the settings icon and select WIFI or Bluetooth. Turn off. YW

99% of the times I turn off WiFi it's because I'm associated with some weak-arsed crap network that isn't passing any data, and it's a temporary condition.

I for one welcome this change.

I realize other people have different reasons for turning off WiFi, though, so can understand folks being upset.
Other than they still CAN turn it off. So this is a new addition/feature to BT and wifi that didn't exist previously. People making mountains out of mole hills here because something new was added in addition to the old feature. Geez.

it is a good feature, BUT apple needs to add 3d touch to these...so when you 3d touch on them to turn them completely off when you the user want..thats all
Again, why open control panel then 3D touch the BT/WIFI panel when you can simply 3D touch the settings icon and accomplish what you want?

Apple has confirmed that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are not fully disabled when toggled off in Control Center on iOS 11.

bluetooth-wifi-control-center-ios-11.jpg

Even when toggled off in Control Center on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 11 and later, a new support document says Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will continue to be available for AirDrop, AirPlay, Apple Pencil, Apple Watch, Location Services, and Continuity features like Handoff and Instant Hotspot.

Toggling off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi in Control Center only disconnects accessories now, rather than disabling connectivity entirely.

WTAF???

Why even have the control there if it doesn't respect the user input?

There's two ways to turn off BT and Wifi, but one of the controls doesn't do what any SANE user would expect it to?

This is the kind of obnoxious UI BS we all used to make fun of Microsoft for...

And git off my lawn too!

Sigh

For Wifi, I suspect this was at least partially done to combat the problem so brilliantly described in this xkcd:

https://xkcd.com/1865/

That is, you are on a bad one-bar wifi connection that stops loading anything and you turn off wifi to get going again, but then you forget to turn it back on. This is the main reason I ever turn off wifi nowadays, so I can see the use of this. BUT it should have been made optional with a force-touch press and not the default press in CC.

For Bluetooth I never want this. When I turn it off Bluetooth it's because I'm trying to save power, period.
BT 4.x does not cause any noticeable battery drain by being on so you can stop worrying about that. Its a non-issue these days.

From the home screen, it is only three taps away. Once a day, maybe twice, should be enough for what you described.
