The original iPhone famously came without a manual as everything was so obvious. That time is over.

I thought it came with a little booklet called “Fingertips”. Could be wrong, though. And if it did come with that, I don’t remember what was in it. Probably just a few simple tips.

this is crap. I thought I'd turned bluetooth off, but my Apple Pencil was still connected and lost all its power!! What's the point?

Its a mass, the switches in control panel and settings are not equal anymore.

Its like an electrician modifying your light switch so that instead of turning it off, it dims it but doesnt actually swich it off. Becuase he thinks its a better experience to always have the light on.

Actually this is a pretty good feature. Sometimes my wife turns off Wifi by mistake in control center, and burns through her cellular data. This feature will connect it back the following day at 5am.
Yep I've done this before. I personally like the change. But I do think a 3D Touch option to turn it all the way off would be best.

from the new support doc https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208086
"For the best experience on your iOS device, try to keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on."

...yeah ... but why? I'd like to have the fast option to completely turn off radios in control center!

I can understand the need for this toggles... but it's a different function!

it's about Disconnecting VS. Turning Off the radios (BT and WiFi)... there should be separated toggles for all of them, IN Control Center.

Please let know Apple about this error, feedback them on:

thank you all!

...and why the 5 am situation?!??

Wait so "off" now means "off until I move"? WTF Apple!

This is fine as an OPTION. But I want OFF to mean OFF.

This is especially true with the increasing use of BT and WiFi to track my location without my permission.

To actually switch WiFi or Bluetooth off now, I find the easiest way is to just say "Hey Siri turn off wifi".

You can also 3D touch on the settings icon to quickly hop to Wifi/Bluetooth to switch them off their as well.

I'm really sorry, but I can't take any requests right now. Please drive at least 2 miles away from that xfinitywifi network so I can be 100% sure I can't connect to it.

You are not thinking about this right. Its niw a magical button experience, every button is now different, some in very special ways.

Android user on an Apple website discussing something he doesn’t use

Yeah... it doesn't really make much sense to me. As for the "flag" idea (option for complete shutoff), that sounds so very... Android.

I'm an Android user. Connecting and disconnecting a Bluetooth device from lock takes about half the steps on my 2 year old Android phone than on the iPhone 7. Apple could have at least added some more functionality to these buttons, given their new gung-ho approach to gestures. Are they deliberately avoiding Android-like simplicity at their own expense?

For some reason, Instagram and FB came to mind when I read this. I hate the fact that one cannot view posts in chronological order despite the fact that it makes the most sense to me. The wise know-it-alls will give me a superior experience. Trust them.
In this case, I want to turn off wifi. The Apple says, "Nope ... surely you don't REALLY mean that. You'd have a better experience... trust us. We'll will keep the wifi on for ya."

I know this isn't a parallel, but the arrogance of the decision-makers is similar. It's just what popped into my brain.

When Wifi is fully off, the Wifi symbol in control center will have a line crossed through it. Test this by telling siri to turn off Wifi, then look at your control center. Same goes for Blutooth.

Not a fan of this at all. I don't want Wifi on all the time, so this means I'll have to go into settings like before control centre existed? Annoying.

It seems for an increasing number of new "features" Apple is rolling out they seem to lack the courage to announce them.

Nothing says we think this will improve the customer experience like hoping the customer doesn't notice it...

probably remember at least 10 times of when i forgot to re-enable wifi so my phone kept using LTE data for a few days

my brother works in the IT security area and he always leaves wifi off. if it’s something permanent then doing it in settings might make sense
Thanks for this. It's a major security risk. When I turn off WiFi, I turn off WiFi and want it to stay off. Stupid design.

A whole ton of people are going to get hit at BlackHat next year.

Agreed, with one observation. Not sure why, but end-point devices broadcast the SSID's they know... looking for access points. IF AND ONLY IF Apple could make iOS *not* broadcast SSIDS but instead listen only this might be OK. As it stands it is a big security risk!

Should be something like this instead:
