why are people so worked up about this price? it's not that much. The radtech BT600 is $60. My MS bluetooth mouse cost $100 two years ago. $70 seems quite reasonable to me.

If apple would make this a real 2-button mouse I might buy one--really no need to until that happens. No one should have to retrain themselves to use a mouse when there are right/left main button standards.

Yea and why don't they have an edu discount like the regular mighty mouse?? I would buy one then...

Nuc
Give it a few days...I think we will see an edu discount.

In the mean time...current apple wireless mouse...off to ebay!

...unless someone else here wants it:D

does it by chance come with a case?

If it is anything like Apple's previous wireless mouse, likelihood of a case is slim to none.

I bought this really cheap bluetooth mouse by a company called Anycom, it came with a nice velvet bag, and is rechargeable. It was only $40.

I really think I bought it because it had a case. Maybe Apple will take a hint.

Have you read this thread? Or the mouse specs?

This is Apple at its best. Get your customers to buy two of every product. Come out with a product holding back one or two main feautures while keeping it still cool enough that people will buy it. Then a year later, release the version that everyone really wanted in the beginning and they'll all buy it again.

The people at Apple know of our hunger for the latest & greatest and are masters at exploiting it. I wish it wasn't true, but I'm weak just like the rest of you. (Okay, so, I didn't buy a Mighty Mouse, but that's because I'm a poor college student. When I actually have the money, I will fall into this trap.)

And does anyone else think it looks like a real mouse? Go to Apple's homepage and check out the pic there. That's probably what they were going for, but seriously...it looks like a mouse! Apple knows how to work it.
I think Apple were holding it back until they could fit exactly what they wanted into the mouse. Many commented how packed the mouse had been without batteries, so that had to be dealt with first. Then why charge someone $69 for a BT mouse with only optical? They wanted laser. In the year of comments here, people wanted this thing to be laser, that's what they got. I am on the record as saying I wanted it to be laser, but didn't think it would be, so would have paid the same as this for an optical version.

So no, I don't think this is entirely Apple holding back to ensure double sales. If anything, I hope and think they may begin to include the BT keyboard/mouse bundle as standard with certain models. Buying an 20" iMac with BT bundle, Front Row and having a TV tuner for recording. What a sweet deal that would be, even if Windows fanbois would be saying, "for the same price you could get a media centre with 2GB ram, twice the hard drive, twin optical drives and a bigger display", ignoring the size of the thing, noise/heat produced and lack of BT, wireless and lots of smaller, but important features.

Oh, and out of interest, I find windows users the worst for the Mighty Mouse. They complain about a one button mouse on Macs for years, then you give 'em a mouse and set it to two button and they continuously bring up the contextual menu when trying to select, because they insist on pressing in the middle. This is followed by complaints of the mouse being crap.

It would make alot of sense. If they made a carry case with the hard shell like a glasses case, i think they would sell so many.
Im not about to throw a 70$ mouse into my bag without any scratch protection.

The Mighty Mouse is not a true two-button mouse. It's a one button mouse with weird touch-sensitive quasi two-button functionality, which has never really worked well no matter how much Apple fanatics would like to scream otherwise.

Apple could have saved themselves a bunch of R&D and just made two buttons.

They don't even let you program the available "buttons" with the range of options offered with most third-party mice.

And the $70 price tag is pretty insane. I can't see Apple selling tons of these.

Right click works just fine for me. It has also been commented a few times that based on the features, it is priced in the same range as other BT laser mice.

Maybe Apple just didn't want to make a 2-button mouse

Did it ever occur to you that Apple added the 2-button functionality just to make people who complained about there only being one button happy?

And now that Apple added 2-button functionality, people still complain.

The keyboard is still the most important input device for a computer. Quickly mastering a keyboard and its shortcuts undercuts a mouse's 2-button usefulness.

Not everyone wants 2 buttons.

it is a real two button mouse

button one takes hold of the left side button two has the right, its only when you dont hold the mouse properly that they dont work.

i suppose you could complain that you like a clicking sound, well go buy a $5 mouse, it will work out of the box. tut tut, lmao

now the imac is a computer for all your needs with one wire

The big problem with the Mighty Mouse in the 'two-button' department is that you can't left click and right click at the same time. I have played quite a few games where I need to hit both buttons at the same time. That isn't possible with the Mighty Mouse. I use a Macally BTMicro, a nice compact two-button-plus-clicking-scroll-wheel Bluetooth mouse that uses rechargeable AAA batteries (and comes with a recharging 'cradle'.) If the batteries die on the road, I just throw in standard AAAs until I can recharge it. At home, I just put it in its recharging cradle when I'm not using it.

I do like how the wired Mighty Mouse just works with Windows (including the touch sensitive right button), hoping the BT one does the same.

i have the current wired MM and being a switcher I found this mouse easy to use. yea a few times ive had to clean the scroll ball but its no troble at all considering that it takes like 30 seconds...anyways ive orderd the new bluetooth mouse with a bluetooth keyboard and i cant wait for it to get here..i hope i get it this week...

I did first thing this morning, now I only have 3 usb devices, ipod (why cant I use fw apple!??) canon printer (also bluetooth), and canon scanner, everything else is firewire 400 or 800

I have my Mighty Mouse wired for sale if anyones interested (I already made a separate thread about it)

Is it me or is the mouse being advertised on the UK site BUT its no where to be found on the UK store?.

Overall though my feeling toward the new mouse is....meh

Well, I guess I'll find out. I need a wireless mouse for my Mini as it's embedded in the Stereo. And having gone through traditional tranceiver-ed wireless mice, through a Kensington BT, and logitech BT, etc, I wound up with Apple's BT mouse wishing for multibutton for better interface with my Home Automation app.

I settled on the Apple BT for three reasons: range, battery, and seamless pairing on startup. Oh, and the integrated battery monitoring is pretty keen too.

So this is a natural progression for me. Here's hoping...

This mouse functions as a two (actually 4) button mouse as well if not better than any other with only one exception as far as I'm concerned. The lack of ability to use two buttons independently - picking up a picture from a web site, using the middle button (scroll ball) to change apps, then drop it onto the different app. I did this frequently with my old Microsoft mouse, but it cannot be done with the Mighty Mouse. No way I'm going back to the Microsoft mouse though.

I just phoned the UK store and their response was 'oh, it's probably not available in the UK yet'. Very helpful. When the wired Mighty Mouse was announced I'd already got mine ordered by this time in the evening!

My local physical Apple Store says they're getting them in on Thursday. I'll pick mine up then. (Dang it, I'm already trying to use the nonexistent scroll ball on my 'plain' Apple Wireless Mouse!)

(Yes, I know farther up, I mention my macally BTMicro, but I also use an Apple Wireless.)
