wow, lots of serious fanboiiiiiism here. it's okay though, i'm a huge fan of apple myself, but holy smokes guys, as an owner of both companies, including the bragi headphone (it's a different model), i can say that the bragi ones had no connection issues, paired fine, sounded fine. i stopped wearing my AirPods because hated the way they hung out, and got a lot of bad stares cause they sort of look douchy. the bragi sit in better. the major complaint i have is the controls are tactile so i have to push hard (into my ear) to change anything. they are a lot more discreet, sucks you can't charge in the case though (original bragi headphones).

You are on an Apple related website, so naturally you're going to find those who are more appreciative of the AirPods over other competitors.

That said, what I like about the AirPods over Bragi, is The AirPods have few were user controls and are much more in terms of user friendliness. Bragi incorporate so many different controls, that they seem overbearing at times. Simplicity is what help sell products, and most who see all these hyped up features that they don't understand, are not always accepting to the product.

I can't believe I kickstarted the Bragi project! I waited 3 years to have a less than satisfying product. It sucked in every possible way. I don't expect any better with these overpriced "pro" Dash...

Remember when the earpods looked douchy as well? Give it time, I'm sure the marketing team and (more importantly) a bundling with future iPhones will induce the bandwagon effect on them.

The dash look much better in ear than the AirPods do. I own both and from a 'stay in ear' type of fit the dash has it all over the AirPods. Try to do that with the AirPods and you will be buying sometching cheap to put over the bud and then it won't fit in the charger.

There are other complaints I have with the dash, but looks isn't one of them.
[doublepost=1494976517][/doublepost]

Definitely no swimming, and those that say they work great running are trying to justify the purchase. Just like all the other apple pods they get sweat in them and they get muffled and nasty.

I own both, and while the dash has issues with Bluetooth reception at distances, for working out they are great.

This was good to read. I definitely have trouble using the AirPods to workout. The BeatsX are nice, but I've gotten used to not having a cord around my neck. I think I'm definitely going to be trying these new ones out.

The real time translation sounds just wonderful. I'm in China, all I need to do is find a market vendor, a policeman a waitress in a restaurant, and hope they all have Dash Pro, iTranslate, and a smartphone. Nah! It's not going to happen.

My ears were not designed for Apple's earpods. I'll look at these for the fit and they're more discreet and not for the 'twaddle' in this press release which is cringeworthy to say the least.

Well, they sure look prettier than having a toothbrush sticking out of your ear.

Do you find moustaches weird-looking? What about full beards? Isn't it a similar paradigm?

earpods = airpods + cables. full beard = moustache + more facial hair elsewhere.

Just give it time.

I have not read all the comments- but I want to explain a few things.

I wear hearing aids maid by Resound- very similar to starkey hearing aids. I pay a lot of money- out of pocket for these. in the 4-6K range. I also need all the other programs and features that my aids come with.

The pro line- sold by audiologists at that price is a steal. I know that my loss is too great for me to wear those ones- but for the general public they will be great.

I love taking phone calls, listening to music thorugh my hearing aids- i can control the programs for different locations via my apple watch.

Another benefit is that people will be seeing hearing professionals and may get a test whereas they may usually not.

They are too expensive for me. Not saying that is the case for everybody but $300 - $500 is a lot for earpods. It also sounds like the controls try to do so many things I wonder if they do anything well.

Not sure how the translation works. So if I go to China all I have to do to communicate is find another human being wearing $300 headphones?

Would love better sound to come to the Airpods and translation. Apple is about the only company that can have enough of a product out there to make translation usable.

Currently it isn't the case but I can see in 5 years being in a foreign country and if you spot a person with the "iconic" Airpods which stick out you can use translation services. I would be hard pressed to find a person who has Bragis here in Thailand even if I asked every person I bumped into.

I get the feeling if I bought the Bragis they would sound great but after that I would probably hate how they pair up.

Please enlighten me. What does "more nuanced audio-boosting features at 5,000 audiologists throughout the United States and Canada" mean?

The rest, I get what they are "trying" to say, but the buzzwords they shoehorn in are annoying at best and misleading at worst.

If you read the complete article, they explained that the audiologists will fit the Dash to your ear with a custom molded fit. That will ensure a perfect fit, boosting audio performance.

Literally just got back from a run with the AirPods and they're perfectly fine, just like every other time I've run with them.

And "Bluetooth reception at distances" is task number 1 for any Bluetooth headphones, so "issues" with that is pretty much disqualifying.

Not when you're talking about a device that is meant to be worn for fitness, which the dash was. As long as it had contact with your phone (and now watch) that was good enough. So distance, is relative in this case,
[doublepost=1495022214][/doublepost]
Technical? Lol. More like cringe-worthy techno mumbo-jumbo jargony buzz words written by a marketing department trying way too hard. Seriously...hearable technology, Kinetic user interface, virtual 4D menu? LOL!

In other words, vapor. Hot Air.

Their products aren't vapor. Have you used them? They have a much nicer interface on them than the tap twice to either start siri or stop/play. While their wording is a little odd, the way the current Dash works (from a UI standpoint) is very good. You can skip tracks with a flick, turn volume up or down, start and activity, enable/disable hearing traffic if you're on roads. All without grabbing your iDevice. Imagine that?

Never tried a pair of Bragi's but do think they are more aesthetically pleasing than the AirPod, which, as you say, are douchey looking. I have a pair of AirPods and also Jaybird Freedom F5s. My AirPods are typically my go-to even though they have the same high smirk-factor as a pair of men's gold trimmed velvet Gucci slippers. I would prefer wearing my Freedoms but the mic is terrible and has no wind noise filter like the AirPods and the connection is nowhere near as solid as the AirPods.

The AirPod is a great first model. I expect more from version two -- foolishly I think. But if not I suspect the rest of the industry is scurrying to catch up and will do so if Apple rests on its laurels here. If that doesn't happen I'll look to see if Jaybird fixed the Freedom's issues.

Can anyone explain to me the monthly charge for using iTranslate? Isn't the app, and thus translation, free?

AirPods are BT headphones, though?

technically, yes. but apples adoption with the W1 is far superior than anything else. the connection range is absolutely incredible and so is the pairing/switching convenience. which to me is the most important aspect of wireless headphones.

Maybe a proper analogy would be someone wearing a beard or mustache, but only on one side so that it's an incomplete, mismatched look. Or, keeping with yours, it's not a mainstream beard or mustache -- it's one of those really long curly Boris staches. Or a Devil's pointy beard, but in all white.

It's a real visual problem. AirPods look like giant earrings or cyborg stems -- unnatural either way. Plus they are white so they stick out and scream "look at me." Most headphones blend in or compliment -- even big lime green Beats. Not a fan of those but they work with some people. AirPods don't look good on anyone. It's truly function over form on this one.

Honestly, if AirPods were made so that the stem went up rather than down it would blend in and wouldn't be an issue. Don't know if they would be as technically great that way but wouldn't look so goofy. And they do look goofy -- on me and everyone else who wears them. I recognize this, some AirPod owners are just delusional like those who think they look hip in their Ed Hardy T-shirt. I try to avoid the mirror when I'm wearing my AirPods so I don't feel self conscience. It's a really tussle between my vanity and comfort/convenience.

Well, the wireless part. The most important part of any headphone/ear bud should be sound. If AirPods sounded crappy the W1 chip would be a moot feature.

thats a fair point, but its also subjective on what constitutes "good" or "acceptable" sound. to me the airpods sound great. but I'm old and have never owned any "great sounding" headphones, or ones that use any sound isolations.

No, I agree. No complaints about the AirPods sound. Just saying if they did sound like a used soup can on a string the W1 chip would be a non-factor.

At an event in New York City today, hearable company Bragi announced a trio of updates coming to its line of wireless Bluetooth headphones, including The Dash Pro, The Dash Pro tailored by Starkey, and Bragi OS 3. The updates follow the launch of The Headphone device that Bragi debuted earlier this year at a lower cost to The Dash, allowing The Headphone to enter the market as a more direct competitor to Apple's AirPods.

The Dash Pro

The Dash Pro's major updates center around what Bragi described as "professional grade" Bluetooth connectivity that provides audio to users "without interruption," improving on some connection issues that owners of the original Dash faced. Other improvements include a five hour battery life on a single charge (up from three), with a carrying case that can recharge The Dash Pro up to five times, totaling 30 hours of battery life on the go.

Bragi-dash-pro-2-800x498.jpg

All of the advancements represent what Bragi is calling a "powerful ear computer," and not just a normal headphone or hearable device.
One-touch setup with any Apple, Android, or Windows device takes seconds, according to the company, and the audio transparency feature of The Dash has made it to the new device as well. With it, users can allow external sound to pass through into The Dash Pro, or cancel out any noise they don't want to hear to focus on in-ear audio. Audio quality has been bumped up with a new advanced audio codec with reduced white noise, and all-new foam tips (FitSleeves will be in the box again, too) provide stronger bass thanks to a better in-ear seal.

The Dash Pro tailored by Starkey

Bragi has also partnered with hearing technology company Starkey and will be launching The Dash Pro tailored by Starkey, with personally-tailored fitting and more nuanced audio-boosting features at 5,000 audiologists throughout the United States and Canada. The Dash Pro tailored by Starkey is set to benefit users by allowing them to use "Fourth Platform" contextual computing interfaces that enhance their ability to interpret audio while enabling UI interactions through The Dash's motion sensing.

Users will be able to purchase the tailor-made device and get a fit that is exactly customized to their ear canal, providing the "best isolation and a perfect fit with an emphasis on clarity, detail, and no loss of bass frequencies." Bragi said that professionals in precision-based fields will see benefits from such a highly personalized in-ear fit, including musicians, content creators, athletes, and more. The Dash Pro tailored by Starkey will also include HearClear replaceable WaxGuards to allow for long-term wear and minimal cleaning.

I might suggest something like this; oh yeah, iPhones ...

These look amazing.

It makes me wish the AirPods had at least the ability to skip tracks without Siri. Siri kills the AP's because I always need a data connection to skip songs or turn up the volume.

Made by the idiots that posted an ad making fun of Apple for their delay in releasing the AirPods and then their own product was delayed until well after the release of the AirPods.

Indeed, these devices will have a big impact on the mid-range hearing aid market and for older folks with modest hearing loss. Apple's 1st-gen wearables are clunky and crude, but with competition from the likes of Bragi perhaps we will see significant improvements.

The chip (W1) has sailed.

Apple has already matched the portability with design, battery life and AAC sound quality.
Sorry but for us lucky people in the UK we have access to the ELYXR AIR earphones which in my personal opinion are the best design in this category, it gives you 36 hours of battery from the portable charger which is very stylish an fits in your pocket like a small powerbank and the connection quality so far (2 months of use) hasn't dropped once. I would say its the ones to look out for and are only £149.99 worth checking out if your looking for true wireless earphone alternative from apples.
