I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Supremely stupid if that was the case though...

Three vids and eight pictures later, and eight minutes after restore, no clicking yet.

Yeah... I'm really stumped by it. It just doesn't make sense that apps/etc would make a difference.

I've put some of my music and all my apps back on. Taken more pictures, recorded another vid. Still no clicking. I think I feel the faint stirrings of hope...

I'd be willing to bet that is has to do with the availability of RAM.

Not a super technical person, myself, but it's a thought.

The recording video is written to RAM before sent to the hard drive (actually the iPod uses a flash drive- no spinning parts). I'd be willing to bet that when the RAM is filled up, the device has to make room for the huge video file that's being written.

It sounds like a software issue, if anything. If you get the problem, I'd try restarting your iPod touch before doing a factory reset. :)

^ Interesting theory. I had less than 1 gig of stuff on my 32gb iPt4 and don't think I was running anything in the background... not sure how that would contribute to the clicking problem.

I would like to cautiously say I *think* I'm click free. I've taken five more vids, all around the 10 second mark. And they seem to be beautiful. I'll take some more when I wake up tomorrow and all through the weekend, but otherwise I think the restore worked. BJB -- try again perhaps?

Alright, one last post before I'm off to bed. Three hours and probably almost 10 videos later, I'm *still* click free. I think this may verify what the Apple support guy said, some glitch in the software caused the click to happen. Will record in the morning when I wake up and over the weekend, but I think I should be staying click free now.

Hi all,
I too have the same issue. The sound is from the wifi. It disappears when the wifi is disabled. I found that it also shows up using the "voice memo" utility. Again, if you turn off the wifi during recording, no more clicking.

I thought I was the only one having this issue. I originally posted a question about this earlier today on the ilounge forums:
http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-touch/262842-ipod-touch-4g-videos-snapping-noise-audio.html

Not sure what to do at this point. I'm sure we will hear more about it in the future.

Another glitch that I just found when typing this is that the "keyboard clicky" sound that the iPod makes won't turn off when innate the volume down all the way. Interesting.

That's weird! I turned off my Wi Fi and the clicking was gone. Then I turned it back on and I heard it a little bit! Do u think I should return it or is this something Apple could fix through a firmware update?

That's a tough question. I'm thinking it's a hardware issue at this point, but I'm no expert on the matter. We'll see how it plays out. Did someone say that a factory restore fixed this problem? I'd be amazed if it did. Can someone confirm this to work? Thanks all. Time for some shut eye.

Well I can't confirm that the restore works. Although it looks like some others had success. So give it a try.

Confirmed! It's the WiFi that makes the difference (or a 10 hour time lag)... I woke up (my iPt4 was fine last night after doing a system restore. I recorded 10+ vids.)

Turned my WiFi on before I went to sleep. Woke up, took a vid. Yep, hello clicking. Turned it off. Wow. The silence in the background was music to my ears. Does this make it a hardware issue?

Yeah, I'd really like to know if they are all having this problem and if they might update before returning it to the store.

ok.. Well that explains why a restore did the trick, because I did not even setup wifi. So.. Now I'm wondering if a return it.... Probably the replacement I would get is going to have the same issue?

Someone call Apple support please? I'm writing them an email.

I would, but can't now. I will call them later to explain we've pin-pointed the problem. By then, hopefully they will have had a few other calls about this issue and it may get more notice. I'm sure they will tell me to just get it replaced, but I'm almost certain this is a design flaw and every model will have the same issue.

And that's a fail on writing them an email, I hadn't realized that they'd changed the types of problems you can email about. I'll call them later too and see what the guy says. I can't believe they let this big of a problem ship in iPt4!

Just sacrificed my lunch break. Everyone, pack 'em up and head back to the store. That's the consensus after 30 minutes on the phone, and yet another restore.

At this point I don't see the point of returning it! I think all devices are going to have this issue. This is our "iPhone 4 antenna issue".

Anybody that returned and got a new one, and the problem disappeared, please let us know!!!

Add me to the list...Wifi on, clicking. Wifi off, no clicking.

edit: Just sent a tip about this to Engadget.

Unexpectedly had some free time out of the office and decided to test my luck. Made an appointment at the Apple store, walked in and explained the situation. The guy did yet another restore, but a firmware restore as well. And... no clicking with WiFi enabled! Hallelujah. I have yet to test it in the quiet of my office (since that Apple store was like a zoo! But the guy took it into the backroom to do some recordings), and have to put my music etc. back on it tonight.

I'll make a vid soonish, connecting to another WiFi and see how that works.
