Just did it. Everyone, make sure your subject line indicates the problem so he or whoever is reading can see the wave of emails coming about the same thing.
Me to, but at steve@apple.com

To me touch 4 gen is dead. I've decided to get a brand new iPod touch 3rd gen 32GB instead, and for a bargain price! In fact, I've sold my 2nd gen 16GB off auction for 190$ and got brand new 3rd gen 32gb for 240$, so the new touch cost me just 50$!!. Let the 4gen owners be happy with their purchase, though :) I've decided to wait till next release, which I'm sure gonna have all the failures corrected.

So has anyone gotten theirs replaced yet? Does it have the same problem? I ordered an Invisible Shield and I want to install it, but I'm wondering if I should try my luck at a swap out first.

I'd wait this one out a bit and see how this plays out. The first step is getting Apple to acknowledge it. Which takes a LOT. The iPhone 4 antenna had to explode into a full-on sh*tstorm before they stepped up to acknowledge it. So I'm not sure if we'll have the same luck. The iPhone tends to get major media coverage if there's some particular buzz about it. But the iPod touch unfortunately does not have that kind of "pull".

Yeah... True... Has anyone submitted this thread to Macrumors news submission? It would be interesting to see if it gets posted.

I've had a few unexpected test results with this...

Secured network at home (Linksys router): clicking present.
Secured network at work(Belkin router): clicking present.
Unsecured network at work(same Belkin router): clicking present.
Connected to Optimum Wifi hotspot: no clicking.
Connected to my MacBook Pro configured as unsecured Airport hotspot: clicking present.
Wifi OFF: no clicking.

The only time I've had no clicking is either with Wifi OFF completely, or connected to an Optimum Wifi hotspot. I assume the Optimum is physical an unsecure network, though their require a login in Safari to identify yourself, but I don't think it's encrypted the same way a wireless router does when it's set in secure mode.
