Anybody who went back to the store, and got a replacement, let us know if the replacement has the same issue.

I am seriously thinking about going back to the Apple Store tomorrow, and getting my replaced, but I'm kind of scared I'm going to end up with another iPod with the same issue!

Update to my situation. I got my touch replaced today (mainly due to the upper left corner of the screen lifting up). NO CLICKING on the replacement so far (I did have it on the original one that I ordered from Apple online). Happy with that BUT the same corner of the screen is STILL not flush and is "squishy" when I press on it. I checked out the demo models at the store and roughly half had the same screen lifting problem. Ugh. There are other threads about the screen issues.

I think I'm going to live with this one for a couple weeks until new stock comes in that hopefully doesn't have these issues. Do you think this is a good plan?

Yeah that's a good idea. I'm thinking about going back to the Apple Store tomorrow and returning mine also, and getting my money back! I called Best Buy today and they said that they are getting a new shipment next week. So I'm just going to get one from there, and hopefully I won't have any issues this time.

i ordered mine from amazon, so if i wanna swap it out, id have to ship it back, right?

I'm pretty sure you can bring it to an Apple store if it has a problem. The guy that I talked with today at the store said "it's an Apple product so we'll take care of you no matter where it is purchased."

This is in regards to my screen lifting problem. They didn't have any 32g in stock so I returned it to the Apple store and bought a replacement somewhere else. Same screen issue booo! :(

thats good to hear. too bad the apple store here is out of 32gb ipod. i hope they have more by the time i finally get mine.
actually, i hope doesnt have any defects.

Well, long story short, I returned my 2nd iPod touch. The first one had a loose screen (left top corner) and videos with the now infamous wifi clicking. The second had the same loose screen and a mushy home button.

I'm going to wait a few weeks until I purchase one again. Hopefully the quality control will have improved by then.

Thanks all for your input and good luck with your touches. It's a great device that I hate to criticize. I hope to get a winner in the near future.

I'm going to return mine probably. I have not checked the screen, but I will. I just have a feeling even if I get a new one, it will have the same problem.

were you planning on filming the next Star Wars with your touch?? mine doesn't click, but there is a lot of hiss in the audio. these are not RED cameras.

The "hiss" you are referring to is just noise. You get it when the microphone is trying to pick up sounds, but there is minimal sound to record.

of course. but it's quite prominent. I hear the same thing on my sony digicam.

Somewhat off-topic:

I still have/use a Sony Handicam that runs MiniDV tapes (not fancy internal storage like those new camcorders). Even in a somewhat loud environment, the whine of the tape spooling always, always comes out in the audio. I remember when these things were the top-of-the-line technology! :D

That's why I have a ton of sympathy for a little bit of white noise. It's better than MiniDV tapes.

You don't need to be connected to a network for the wifi clicking to interfere with recordings. When I record in an area with wifi on but no available networks, the clicking is still there but less frequent than when connected to a network.

Edit: wifi off and bluetooth on also produces clicking.

i will be receiving my ipod touch 4 soon...

from the descriptions of the audio clicking, it sounds like a hardware issue. it is probably due to crosstalk from the wifi (or bluetooth?) circuit to the audio circuit. when wifi periodically pings the network, this activity causes a current spike which is coupled into the audio amplifier/digitizer. at least it is relatively low amplitude.

however, there is hope for a software update to address this issue: when recording video, wifi updates are probably not important. wifi updates could be automatically and temporarily disabled during video capture.

so a software fix for this hardware problem may be possible-- let's see if Apple cares enough about it to fix...

so for the new ipod touch 4 gen, there's no sound when you do the "Slide to unlock" gesture and typing on the keyboard right ?

by any chance you think engraved ipods are checked twice before ship them? I don't know but maybe because its more difficult to return them?

Or anyone with a engraved ipod has problems with it?

Cheeres:p

My 32GB has the clicking problem. Has it pretty much been determined that any and all new Touches have the problem when connected to a secured wifi network. Or has it not been proven yet that it affects 100% of units? I'd consider getting a replacement, but I'd rather see how this plays out. It's not the worst thing in the world. But for catching some in the moment video, it slows you down even more having to shut off wifi before you fire up the camera app and get going.

no--my network is secure and I have no clicking. just the usual hiss, just like on my digicam or camcorder.

My wife has a new touch too. I'll check hers out. If hers doesn't do it, then I'll know to return it.

Apple's quality control is slipping like crazy it seems.
