So could someone explain how to do a restore, and then also a firmware restore?

I hope Engadget is reading this.. because man I give up. I connected to a wireless that requires a password, and lo and behold the clicking was back. So now we've isolated it to, clicking in video recording and voice memos occurs when you're connected to a wireless that requires a password. I say a password because I connected to the free WiFi in the Apple Store and all was fine.

I think I'll be happy to live with it, since when I'm out and about in the outside I won't be connected to an encrypted wireless anyway... *shrug*. Back to work.

I just restored my iPod and it didn't resolve anything. I still have the clicking sound, unless I turn off my Wi-Fi. I'm seriously thinking about going over to the Apple Store this weekend and see if I can get it replaced!

I turned off the password security on my wifi and I still hear the snapping noises.

Perhaps your ipt4 remembers the password setting? This is grasping at straws, but I see there's a place for the device to remember settings. I have no clue, just got to turn off the wireless when you try to record. I just wonder if this is a shipment problem or if all ipt4 have this problem

Not sure either. I did find that the screen is slightly loose on the upper left corner of my device. My son and I were playing on an app and I noticed that the very corner was pushed out just ever so slightly (literally a hair). I was able to push it back into place, but it pushes back up over time. I have been super careful because I don't have a case yet, so I know it is nothing that I have done.

I called the Apple store today and they said they would have no problem replacing it when they get more in stock. I also asked about the sound issue on audio recordings. The guy I spoke with said he had not heard of it, but to check it out on the new model that they replace it with. Ugh.

All in all I like this new iPod, but I miss the extra thickness of my 2g. A case will "beef it up" a bit though. Hopefully some will be available soon.

I'm probably still going to get it replaced; but I'm almost certain it's not going to change. It's a hardware issue that is shaping up to possibility only be isolated to when on locked wifi.

Yes this is annoying, maybe I'm holding it wrong.

I guess it's not terrible to turn off wifi when making a video, but it's sure not great...

Let us know if the replacement has the same issue!

I have the same problem, if I turn Wi-Fi off, the clicking sound is gone, when I turn Wi-Fi back on, the clicking sound is back aswell!!

This will make Facetime and Voip(Skype) unusable with the intergrated microphone !! :(

Same thing here. In fact i've noticed it after reading your post. Do you konow if Apple can take it back for that problem ? I bought mine in an Apple store.

Ugh

So I finally bit the bullet on getting an iPt, and now I read this...good lord, when will I learn my lesson about first version hardware? Probably never.

Anyway, I don't have mine yet--it's on backorder from MacMall. Will be interested to see if I have the same issue when their stock is replenished and I get mine. Very disappointing if this is a true hardware problem for the model in general. And now, of course, I'm paranoid about the screen-lift thing, too. BAH.

I'll update once I have my 64gb in-hand.

Has anyone experienced the clicking during facetime? I would think that's actually not an issue because you're not recording vids. I have yet to facetime with a friend though so I'll have to confirm that later.

The screen lift is an issue though, mine's perfectly flush.

Has anyone tried using the built-in mic in Apple's headphones with FaceTime ? Maybe wifi won't affect the external mic ? Really hoping these problems will be fixed, i'm getting one imported from the US, and there aren't any Apple stores here in NZ, so i cant really get my iPod replaced :(

I took a video with Wi-Fi on in a quiet place, amplified the sound, and now I hear the clicking. I took a video with Wi-Fi off, and there's no clicking. Looks like I have the problem too. I also found that the clicking goes faster while doing the "tap to focus" feature.

Wi-Fi on:

Wi-Fi off:

I can hear it. :(

Hopefully an update will fix it. At least it is easy to turn off the wifi.

Anybody who went back to the store, and got a replacement, let us know if the replacement has the same issue.

I am seriously thinking about going back to the Apple Store tomorrow, and getting my replaced, but I'm kind of scared I'm going to end up with another iPod with the same issue!

^Or one with a worse issue. I'd rather live with this than the light leaks, dead pixels, and mushy home buttons I've been reading about. :\
