Just put a basket full of chargers on a table and if a person is buying an iPhone and wants one, just grab one. It's not that hard.
That would cost more money than including the charger in the box, so Apple will never do that.

See what I don't understand and I totally get the green claim here. But it's surely the cables that are the most collected and water product, not the actual charger itself. I have hundreds of cables, but actually it's the block I loose, or misplace. It would be much greener to provide the block and remove the cable. It's also simply to boost profit. The handset never decreased in cost even though they stopped "Giving away" chargers and AirPods. smaller packing more profit as the overall offering is less.

Imo the only thing that people really pixxxs off is the environmental argument which they used when introducing this no charger iPhone. It's that fact to be treated as dumb not if there is an actual charger in the box or not. But in the end it doesn't even matter, we would by them with the display sold separately ;-)

Landline is back : The new iPhone Studio Ultra

Apple (on average) make the $270 MILLION dollars PER DAY.

So this fine is 7% of on days income.

To put that in perspective it’s a $20 fine for someone making $100k per year……

Perhaps Apple could simply offer the iPhone charger, cable, headphones etc as options on checkout, if you purchase without adding, the disclaimer states that Apple have obliged by offering one.

Ahh yeah. I probably didn't pay attention. When I got my phone, sans charger, it seemed odd at first then I remembered they don't include them now. Funny how the phone wasn't any cheaper.
How do you know the phone wasn't any cheaper? AFAIK Apple doesn't sell the same iPhone model both with or without a charger to allow a comparison to be made. You can't compare it with a different iPhone model as you don't know the cost of the phone itself.

I mean, using that logic, you can argue that any accessory should be included. Where do you stop? Should a case be included? Headphones? How about Macs that are sold without Final Cut Pro X? I mean, without FCPX you can't do pro-video on the mac!

Apple should be able to sell each item a la carte. Just want the phone? Why pay for a charger too -- need just a charger, why pay for anything other than a charger? Bundling unneeded hardware is just wasteful.

This is just silly...
Actually many electronics only include the cables and not charger. Even items that cost hundreds of dollars. Of course a iPhone cost somewhat more.

I can see this leading to a sales ban on Apples products in the country. No matter what anyone thinks of that it will impact their profits. Apple should learn it can not just do as it pleases and ignore local laws.

Maybe Brazilian politicians and the law makers/enforcers recognize what excessive profits are, and have called out Apple’s bunk relating to their commitment of being a good corporate citizen and the environment? The judges were not convinced despite Apple having the ability to put forth the most expensive and experienced legal minds that speak the primary Brazilian language, so something isn’t right with what Apple is doing down there and how they are conducting business.

Does that understanding you have of the real world include what others around the world think of consumer protection and laws that are designed to protect them from gouging and or other unreasonable business practices? Look around the globe, i think you’ll see the USA is in the minority when it comes to how the consumer is protected from corporate greed and other predatory practices.

Brazil isn‘t the only country that has imposed tough penalties on Apple and has decided to dismiss Apple’s bunk, particularly Apple’s environmental arguments… the E.U. recently ruled about against Apple in the USB-C and Apple Lightning charging port battle. And Apple is getting hammered in the E.U. in other cases - mainly one that has to do with Apple Pay and Anti-Trust… it seems Apple is not the nice and proper corporate citizen they are paying PR firms to propagate throughout the world…

IMHO - Apple is getting what they deserve for letting the Wall Street parasites run the company instead of the creative and innovative groups that made Apple what it is…

I can agree with your last bit, the love of money (Wall Street/Politicians) is ruining things, and I have seen to many good companies go bad because of it.

The other parts we will have to agree to disagree on parts.

Umm not any more. MOST people are moving forward annd keeping up with technology and are using USB-C now.

In what world? US? Even on Android side, only a few select of devices that came up with full USB-C charger, mostly high end Androids which isn’t the most selling.

Most midranges, which sell most at 3rd world regions, come with USB-C to A cable, along with USB-A prong to cut cost. So I dont think average joes in 2022 could have unused USB-C bricks just laying around freely.

These small-time fines are a joke. In any jurisdiction where large companies like Apple operate fines should start at 5% annual gross profits for the region/nation (like EU or Brazil). That, combined with very, very short appeal and final decision time - like one month. Then you slap one of them babies on Apple and the company would be submissive like a teen emo girl on a leash.

As for the chargers specifically - of course Apple does not give a rat's rear end about the environment. Seriously? With new products launching almost ANNUALLY and the buy-and-discard mentality? Oh yeah, right, get the 5000 USD battery replacement jig for your iPhone number whatever. Will ONLY fit that phone, will NOT be for amateurs. Right.
Apple does not sell chargers with phones because they can sell the phone for the SAME and higher price without a charger, then to sell the charger separately. It probably costs more to separately package/ship/handle/sell the chargers than what the chargers cost and what "footprint" they have.
Ask Cook to make less new trash every year, you'd get his CO2 footprint up your a**.

Fining them for now charger. Fining them for now usb-c. It’s so dumb. A company should be able to sell their product how they want to, and if the public doesn’t like it they won’t buy it.
I agree to an extent, but a first- time iphone buyer shouldn't have to stump up for a charger to make the product useable.

I love to read people arguing over a charger. Only on MacRumors.

Anyway, Apple made decisions, government wants money, Apple pays money, everyone is happy.

How much money does Apple make as pure profit per iPhone? The estimates vary, but the reported profit margin is staggering no matter what and who’s estimate you use to calculate it… And all the estimated margins for the iPhone alone that l have seen is over $600 per phone; that is free and clear profit for Apple PER each iPhone - something tells me that what Brazil is doing won’t deter Apple much at all, and it shows becuase they are not complying with the law and the judges orders. Perhaps putting a few of the Brazil Apple executives in jail would send the proper message and be a good deterrent? Perhaps them padlocking the doors of any place of business that sells the iPhone would be another deterrent… point being is they need to do something different to get Apple’s arrogant attitude to comply with the laws of the country… at least until they can bribe someone enough to have the consumer laws changed…

So in some places (Europe) all manufacturers have to have a usb-c connector (in a few years) for chargers to be interchangeable and not included in order to save on e-waste while in others the charger has to be included...
The solution is simple though: since they already sell chargers separately it can't be hard to bundle the phone with a charger in the point of sale, can it?

Apple will add a charger in the nearest future when everybody will get rid of them and then they wiil use it as a advertise for new iPhones like "hey, we include charger in the box, something that nobody on the market is doing atm!"

I bet we can find enough 5W to donate. I’ve got a couple in a drawer somewhere X 1 Billion others oughta cover Brazil.
Most people don't actually buy a new iPhone every year and don't have a lot of chargers lying around. I have 3 - one of them is for euro plug, one is for an iPad and one is a smaller iPhone version. All of them have USB-A connections. I don't own a single charger with a USB-C plug that would allow me to use the cable currently supplied with the iPhone.

If you're selling an electrical device, include the ability to provide the device with power. If apple were truly doing it for 'environmental' reasons, they would still be shipping with lightning to USB-A cables - so people could use their old chargers. They're not. Which means people need to buy a new charger anyway with all the separate packaging.

It's worse for the environment and apple is full of crap. It's hard to defend Apple on this issue, because they're clearly doing the wrong thing - damaging the environment for profit while claiming to save the environment.

More realistically Samsung would run ads saying how they include chargers (headphone jacks) with their phones, only to stop including them after a year or two when they do what Apple is doing.
