Again, positing your opinion as fact or part of a greater truth. "the majority doesn't like it." where did get this from? A poll on this website? Most people I know won't even notice, much less complain about it.

This website is not a general indicator of the typical iPhone user. Ask them about parallax or skeumorphism or control center and they'll say "what?"

In my general experience with smartphone users, they are comically under-informed. I know people who use a passcode on their iPhone 5s and have no idea what Touch ID is. I have had to explain to people what Active Display was on a Moto X. I've seen people who had no idea the Note 3 had a stylus.

I think I can safely say that most people don't really care about full screen contact pictures because they don't even notice it. The typical macrumors member is far more informed about iPhones and iOS. That's why they're here. Same reason someone on a car forum knows way more about his engine than a random guy driving down the street. We're enthusiasts. We're statistically insignificant.

I have agree that this change is stupid. I spent weeks getting high resolution contacts setup for most of my contacts. Now they are going to put them in a little circle regardless of the resolution. What a load of crap.

I agree 100% #

Sorry but the change was just plain stupid. Any user of the OS can tell you that. The pictures did not affect the usability of the OS but it does affect the overall feeling and enjoyability of it. What reason would Apple have to make the picture small, when the screen has the real estate to see the bigger picture? if you ask someone if they'd rather see a thumbnail or a high res picture, they would choose the high res option. Why have a retina display if you're not putting it to good use. The change of the contact display was change for the sake of change and takes away from the immersive ness of the OS. I have yet to find one person who actually enjoys the change.

Bring Full Screen contact pics back!

1. your opinion is not fact.
2. I am a user of the OS. I would not tell you that.
3. I'm a person. I enjoy the change.

Not fact, but consensus.

There's always outliers.

Why do you enjoy the change? What specific advantages does a low res thumbnail have over a full screen high res one?

it doesn't affect the usability or function of the OS..so if you'd rather stay on a buggy 7.0.6 because of full screen contact pictures, you lose the ability, imo, to complain about anything actually wrong with the OS.
As mentioned in one of the replies, for some, who are perhaps visually impaired, full screen pictures have made quite a bit of a difference--so it does seem like it affects usability quite a bit for those people.

Again, the choice was there before to not use any picture, to use a small one, or to use a full screen one, taking one away does not make for an improvement.

I get your point, but its not just my opinion and we r not "statistically insignificant" I don't believe that. There is a poll on 9to5mac and that could be only the beginning. We have the right to express what we think its right. And yes, it is my opinion. But if Mather Luther King wouldn't have thought the way he did, the would would be a different place right now. There no comparison, i know full contact pics is a stupid thing, but it is my opinion, an opinion that matters, and i don't need to shut up about it.

Never use it, couldn't think of anything worse than a full screen photo staring at me when i get a call:eek:

Personally I think it's the dumbest thing to take it away. At the very least give people a option. The tiny pics remind me of the pre smartphone days. It doesn't help that the screen is only 4 inches. Now I have to look at a number and some tiny ass picture to see who's calling. Apple is to much of a tight a** with the interface. It's 2014 let people customize the damn look of their phone. Apple ios used to look great, now they are becoming that guy who changes it every 6months and can't make up his mind. As a result it just looks bad.

3. I'm a person. I enjoy the change.[/QUOTE]

I am a person too ;) believe it or not but I hate that change !

People are speaking guys... report it Apple...

I can't still get over the fact my phone would not look that good when my physician's office called me lol...

Totally agree! It's much harder to see who is calling without reading the name.

New design is all based on reading the freaking text to figure out what to do! Soooooo counterintuitive!!!

Change it back god damn it!

----------

idk, I kinda prefer it the new way. Full screen contact pics is pretty tacky and crowded looking.

well, at least make that circle a little bigger than it is now. It's so freaking small to see the picture.

Well it's horrible now. I have 3 contacts called John Smith, it's so difficult to see which one is calling. I don't want to change the name, and I don't want to set different ringtones for each of them. I just want to be able to see the picture of the caller. It's hardly possible with that little circular picture.
Elders, visually impaired will have problems with this update I'm fairly certain.

I simply can't comprehend why they would change this, now 3/4th of the screen is an empty, blurred area when someone calls. Do you guys think there is any chance of bringing this feature back in further updates?

Yeah I can't comprehend it.

As for them bringing the feature back we can look at all the times Apple changed a horrid design decision that the majority of users disapproved of...

............

That would be never, unforunately.

What a MISUSE OF SPACE!

Apple really focused on the accessibility features of 7.1 but at the same time they screwed people that rely on big pictures to see who the are talking to

A forum member wrong on the apple discussion board

Am visually impaired and having the large photo on caller ID was great I could see who was calling at a quick glance. Now I have to bring phone all the way up to face to see who is calling.

Plus, i use to use those contact pictures for menus. Apple have a real issue with making everything round which looks really naff

Ive been using 7.1 betas since the beginning. I still can't get used to having my contact pic in a small circle at the right side of my name. I loved iOS 7 but 7.1 kinda of ruined it. I don't get why Apple would not continue using the contacts pics even they advertise it so beautifully on their website. Don't u think a full screen contact pic looks a LOT better than the empty screen??? Look at the pics: Small contact pic, TINY "Remind me" and "Message" (IT LOOKS SO UGLY), empty screen in the middle, the unlock slider cannot be uglier!
I don't think somebody can post an incoming call screen that looks pretty under the new design.

Please Apple, bring the old iOS 7 design back!!!

Now is the time to complain, and yes, it looks ugly, I really thought that they would fix it for the public release but no, I wouldn't care much about the new icons if the pictures could fill the screen.

Agreed. Seems a bit childish to me.
The caller's name will do just fine.
You don't have to use it, but what it is for you means nothing for others who have been using it just fine all these years with it suddenly being removed.

Fair enough, I was just agreeing with another poster that this isn't a problem to bother me.

I get that, but I would say that removal of a feature that was present before and thus removal of available options to the user can't really be seen as a good thing (unless there was some real issue with it or it was somehow being abused, neither of which really apply here), but, sure, for those that don't use it (for whatever reason), it might not really matter (even though it's still not a good thing).
