My eyes are not what they used to be and I could see who was calling without having to put on my glasses. It should for the very least be an option in assistivity .
 has fixed issues for people who had motion sickness ,so why not leave something useful for people who are not spring chickens anymore .

Happy this Many people are not happy, for whatever reason. If you want Apple to take care of this, send them feedback here. If every person that doesn't like this report it, Apple might care.

I fully expect full screen contact pictures to return -- at least as a user-configurable option -- in 7.1.1 or 7.2. Apple is too invested in making a phone that is "accessible" to ignore people with vision difficulties. Those are the folks who really benefit from full screen contact pictures. To the rest of us, it's just a "nice to have" feature.

I just went there and sent feedback. Thank you for reminding me to do so #

I sure hope you are right ....

Again, positing your opinion as fact or part of a greater truth. "the majority doesn't like it." where did get this from? A poll on this website? Most people I know won't even notice, much less complain about it.

This website is not a general indicator of the typical iPhone user. Ask them about parallax or skeumorphism or control center and they'll say "what?"

In my general experience with smartphone users, they are comically under-informed. I know people who use a passcode on their iPhone 5s and have no idea what Touch ID is. I have had to explain to people what Active Display was on a Moto X. I've seen people who had no idea the Note 3 had a stylus.

I think I can safely say that most people don't really care about full screen contact pictures because they don't even notice it. The typical macrumors member is far more informed about iPhones and iOS. That's why they're here. Same reason someone on a car forum knows way more about his engine than a random guy driving down the street. We're enthusiasts. We're statistically insignificant.

I don't think you can safely say that at all. While I agree with you on how ignorant most smartphone users are of the features of their smartphones, the caller photo is a huge deal. It isn't something you turn on or off. If you've set a contact photo, you've seen it full screen since the first iPhone was released.

The first thing my mom and dad said to me after updating was that they didn't like the picture being so small. My mom said what's the point of having a picture if you can't see it. She has to put her glasses on to be able to see it now.

Personally, I hate it. I thought it was a bug when I first saw it. I spent a lot of time taking pictures of people just for the purpose of having high-quality contact pictures for the full-screen experience.

I imagine people will be going into the Apple store to find out whats wrong with it. I already see people on Twitter calling it a bug.

idk, I kinda prefer it the new way. Full screen contact pics is pretty tacky and crowded looking.
That says more about your photography than anything else. :p

The new interface looks like it was designed for a much smaller screen and they forgot to match it to the actual screen size. What's the point of shrinking the dialling numbers? I'm a fan of white space in design, but this is a case of making something less usable and it must even trickier if you need reading glasses, which are the ones people constantly misplace.

And to prove my point about shrinking stuff.....

Agree with OP

It used to be I would look forward to iOS upgrades... now when they appear I feel some trepidation that things are being changed just to be different -- not better.

REALLY APPLE?!?

IS BETTER THAN THIS?!?

Yep. It's the ONE thing in iOS 7.1 I don't like. I hope Apple are aware of this, realise they've made a mistake and change it back.

You know, I was playing with contact pics on my iPhone yesterday. (I have 7.0.6, not 7.1) And I was thinking the way it shows full screen photos for a call is a little ugly. I think the reason is, if you have a "real" photo that doesn't have the color, framing, or composition that one of the Apple promo image photos has then you end up with a very ugly calling screen. Not to mention if your contact photo wasn't taken with an iPhone and isn't standard screen size, you get weird cropping and framing.

I think apple realized there could be a more consistently nice looking ui experience for real-world contact photos using just the circle. When I was playing with contact photos yesterday I understood why they made this change.

I agree with this. As much as I do find the promotional image of the full screen contact photos, realistically it can turn out very ugly, and some of my contact photos proved that. I prefer the circles for most of my contact photos at this point.

I think rather than having a big full screen photo vs. a small contact photo in the corner, a much better compromise for both groups is having a medium-large contact photo in the center of the screen.

Although, I do find it hilarious that almost half the posts in this topic is just OP posting the same thing over and over and over again.

The problem with a medium-sized photo in the center of the screen is, where does it go during the call? With the full screen photo, it was always in the background, and with the small circle, it is always at the top. There can't be a photo in the center of the screen during a conversation, unless they rearrange all of the buttons to the bottom of the screen and make them smaller. A la stock Android.

Or, when you answer the call, then the icon goes to the corner.

That might work. I hope they do something to make it look better, or give us an option to bring back the full-screen photo. The look/layout just isn't as elegant as it was in 7.0.

Oh no, I do agree it's not as elegant, but at the same time, it's more practical.

I do think that all that wasted space is an issue though.

So you have poor quality photos, surely that is your problem!?!

Why compromise with a half hearted/ugly option? Make it an option. Those of use who make the effort to sort out good quality screen photos can make it full screen.
I've never understood why software interface design are so antipathetic to letting the end user decide what is best for their own needs. Any single case solution will not work for a large percentage of people as we tend to vary so much.

So that's a bit contradictory!

Besides, how is it more practical? Making the identity of the call harder to discern is anything but practical.

Same boat. This is going to make using the iPhone a bit more difficult (and less enjoyable) in some situations. :-(

If you want Apple to take care of this, send them feedback here. If every person that doesn't like this report it, Apple might care.
