I'm not quite sure what people are looking for in this video - CGI effects, lens flares, strobe lights, filters?

It's a simple video that serves to show the models walking down the catwalk.
You can see the clothes, the people etc.

It isn't a music video or a piece from a cable TV fashion news show with your usual quick cuts and strobe cross fades.

If there were tonnes of effects people would be saying - "oh it was a crap video and they had to make it look good with effects" yadda yadda...

Sure there is some very good lighting going on here - no argument - that helps more than anything.

Personally I'd love to get a 5S and shoot videos with it.

I know I will probably get pilloried, but outside of the stabilization, it looks like a video that was shot with a cellphone... any cellphone. The 5s camera may be absolutely fabulous but if I was Apple this is not something I would hang my hat on. It just looks average to me. I am no expert. But still.

Just checking but you did have it on 720p right?

And yes, it's not mind blowing amazing, but I think people are missing the overall point here.

This was shot on a cell phone and with such ease that the requirement of lenses, gear, cameras, linking up and so on is bypassed.

Think about what is coming next with the iPhone 6 and 64bit apps/architecture. Think about what is next with full 1080p.

You will soon be editing on these things in a few years also.

It's scary because the TOOLS are now going to be in the hands of everyone, not just those that can afford 5 figure cameras.

Skinny models prancing up and down in over priced clothes for the amusement of arrogant rich bitches and their henpecked husbands. Pathetic.

Generally the only people who say that are people that know no rich people personally, and only know them from television. That, and you sound far more arrogant that any rich person I've ever met, so... Pot, meet kettle.

Oh don't be so ridiculous, these clothes are beautiful! They are so beautiful that you can wear them for a lifetime, they are timeless. It's not like they will become redundant soon and you will be sniffed at for wearing them.

Meh. It's not bad, but I don't think it's good enough to merit this attention either. There are compression artifacts softening details (even at 720), the out of focus areas aren't particularly pleasing, and overall it still looks like it was shot with a small sensor camera. Since they're using specialized, expensive rigs for the phones (stabilization, probably filters, etc.), and professional lighting, it's hard to tell what you, as a consumer, would really be getting. Plus it's just quite a boring, repetitive video, I think they could have done some more interesting things there.

Well yes and also it's also about seeing what you can do with limitations.

Mobile film makers - iPhone, Droid, whatever - all find the limitations of shooting mobile part of the allure/challenge.

Why waste your time shooting mobile if you want things it doesn't deliver?
In that case buy something more suitable - maybe mobile film making isn't for you.

In the interim those of us that are mobile shooters are loving this stuff.

Again, missing the point. It's a whole show shot on an iPhone. In a few years, people won't need Canon's anymore to do the majority of shoots other then the highest end stuff.

The industry is changing by every release.

1st. observation - what a depressing bunch of catwalk models....
2nd. observation - did they mount an iPhone 5S on a camera rig that runs up and down behind the audience seats? Looks like it.

Yes, obviously - they used a rail system for the fly overs and steadicams for the heldheld shots..

You can do a similar video on any phone these days with the exact same results. 1080P isn't very challenging for any device these days anymore.

Ummm... no. Films shot on a DSLR are still far superior to the quality of this video, not to mention depth of field, interchangeable lenses, etc. Somethings are physic which can't be overcome easy if at all.

Also don't forget that they probably spent tens of thousands of dollars on stabilization equipment ... this isn't something the average joe can do on their iPhone or any smart phone.

FYI: this Burberry video is from YouTube. YouTube is known to highly compress all the videos put on it. So the quality you are watching on that video is probably not the true high quality of the 5S camera capabilities/potential. But I guess well find out in 2 days:rolleyes:

This is so true. Rich people tend to be the most self-aware and know their place in society, probably because their education and upbringing causes them to be smarter than the rest of society.

I agree. He probably has no idea that even the inexpensive clothes people buy at H&M are not worth what you pay for it. The retail markup on most things would shock most people. I should know I do product delvelopment in the footwear industry.

I think most people know the cost of material/packaging to make a running shoe is under $20.

This is why I'm waiting for actual reviews from people who have used the phone for the past week.

So this is kinda on topic. Is an 8mp sensor big enough across so that it can shoot 1080p in portrait, or at least 720p. That would be awesome if the phone could shoot horizontal video with the phone in portrait orientation. That way the people that don't know better would still get video that didn't look like crap.

I am a professional and I agree, for whats supposed to be a professional event this looks very cheap. The blacks are awful and there is no depth to name a couple of things. But I suppose the non professional eyes these days are being trained to think that this is passable.

Extremely impressive. The 5s is a mighty phone and there's no doubt about that. Can't wait to order mine on Friday! Really hoping I don't suffer website crashes and get my order in ASAP after launch. Here to waiting patiently until the clock ticks to 12:01AM.

It looks like it was filmed with a smart phone.....what's the point here?

I wouldn't say that. I think it looks like it was filmed on an expensive full HD camcorder.
