Does it make me and EVEN WORSE person, that not only do I have 5 of them preordered that I'll return in a heartbeat if the white comes out, I also have 2 reserved at apple store for a "just in case" scenario?

I wouldn't let it worry you. These are the same type of people that have thousands of dollars in debt. It's a much better being debt-free than feeling ethical over the internet.

Oh, it doesn't worry me at all. I'm just usually the one to fight for what's right.

And you're absolutely right about being debt-free. I don't even own a credit card. Thanks for the support. ;)

It's okay to reserve something someone else wants just to exchange it later so you can have one now (and they won't)? Seriously messed up. I'm done arguing with you guys. It's selfish, it's wrong, and you know it.

You're assuming that there is limited iPhones. Yes, what you're saying would be wrong if there was a finite amount, but there won't be. If the online ordering was working fine everyone who wanted one would get one pre ordered, or there's always waiting in line.

I have barely ANY debt... car, motorcycle, all paid off, have a fantastic credit score....
Thank you for your concern though ;)

you know i am getting a black and returning it for a white. I don't wanna wait and AT&T actually recommended it... lol

How does one relate to the other? I totally agree in being debt free and only buying something if you have the money for it.

But maybe you're right, I am the type of person to be thousands in debt. It's called a mortgage.

Awesome idea. I might buy a few black ones and sell them on eBay for $800 unlocked and then buy white ones. :)

You didn't read all the other threads about people not getting theirs preorders in? Either way I wish you the best.

I was never concerned about your welfare nor did I even imply that you were in debt. I'm happy that you're not. It's a good thing. :)

At this point with all the pre-ordering issues I'm just going to wait to see if they get worked out in the next few days. I'm hoping that white will be available at the apple store on the 24th. If so, I'll most likely be waiting in line.

Does anyone see any problem with pre-ordering a black iPhone 4 now for delivery on the 24th, then within the return policy, go to apple store and return and get a white one? This assumes that the white will not be available anywhere at launch on the 24th but a few weeks later.

If white is available at launch but in extreme limited qty, I'd just be sure to be first in line to get it.

This is a risky idea. I am not an apple employee, but I believe their return and exchange policy for iphone is 14 days. Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, Apple and other 3rd retailers will charge 10% restocking fee on you. We don't know what apple is going to do with white iphones. Are they going to let people pre-order later? Probably, then you won't be able to do it because you just bought one at 199/299 dollars. Risky, but it you think you can handle it, then no one is stopping you.

It's the instant-gratification type. It's relatable because while some have the money to pull it off, most don't. That's why the average household credit card debt is over $15,000.

Aside from all the moral issues I have with you people who want to do this, why would you want to deal with having to return it and buy a new one? And go through the process of activation and such again? Just seems like a big hassle. And the fact that you would buy a black iPhone simply for instant gratification is nauseating. Just wait.

Its your money. Spend it how you want to. Me? I would take whats available and customize. With the sheer amount of 3g accessories you can pretty much make your phone look like whatever you want. And If at some point i really felt the need to have a different color, I would sell, cut my losses and pony up the cash to buy what I wanted.

I just have a quick question, and didn't want to start a new thread.....

soo, I want white really bad...but I went ahead and pre-ordered the black 32GB model.

Lets say in a couple weeks a problem arises with it, like the screen is defected, or wifi doesn't work, whatever. Is it possible, for when I get there, when the genius is about to replace it, I just ask if I could get the white model? Has anyone done this with the 3G / 3Gs in the past? If you had black, asked for white...and if you had white, asked for black?

This will be fun to watch when Apple purposely waits until one day after the return period to release the white phones. OR, they have specific clause in the policy prohibiting people from making this exchange.

Then we'll have to listen to all these people whine, but it will be fun.

I have heard they do not do this.

I am surprised no one has mentioned that maybe Apple will have thought about this happening before they release the white? I, for one, think this will be avoided completely because I don't think they are releasing white in the next 30 days. I think they will draw it out longer than that, and watch all this hype happen all over again in a couple months. I think they're holding out purposely (probably for a dramatic effect), not because they need to or dont have them, and I don't think they would bother to do that if they're going to throw them on shelves a week later. They're going to let this whole iphone in general boom and generate tons and tons of press, and as soon as it calms down and they're mostly caught up on stock of black, they will release the white and generate it a ton of buzz all over again. Anyway, I don't think they are dumb enough to allow this to happen (the returning thing). I bet if they did release it within 30 days, there will be a rule preventing returning it for color. Patience is a virtue I guess. I wanted black, and its ordered, so I am happy.

If Apple announces the white release date before the 24th, and it's within a reasonable timeframe, I'll just leave my black phone unopened until then and return it. No restocking fee. No need to send it anywhere. They can turn around at give it to someone else!

If it doesn't get announced, I'll contemplate Apple's horrible PR sense, and spend the next 12 months obsessing over fingerprints.

complete ********!! Steve even said it on stage, at the keynote, that both white and black will be available for pre-order....

SOMETHING must have gone wrong in the manufacturing process, I am sure we can expect a formal letter from Apple / Steve tomorrow on their site. Friday at the latest....

So what if the White doesn't get released within the return date policy. . . then you're screwed with a black iPhone 4 you didn't want.

I want White as well. . . but I have enough courtesy to let the people who actually want the black model, buy/order it.

I'm waiting and so should you. ;)

don't blame the people doing it, blame apple for not having the phone you wanted.

if the whites were available, this thread wouldn't be here.

I just think it's common courtesy. . . If this situation was different(White only available) people wouldn't want it to happen to them.

It's pointless in fact. Especially if people already own an iPhone. We get the update on the 21st. . . Except the first iPhone (Sorry Lol)

Maybe white will be available for preorder, separately, sometime before its released..lol. people like to pick apart how everything is worded on here, so i guess i will join in.

I really wanted white, but I pre-ordered black, and I will be keeping the black one. If anything goes wrong with the phone and it gets replaced by Apple, I'll ask if I can a white one instead of a black one, but otherwise it doesn't bother me to much. I'll just be carrying a microfiber cloth every with me for the next two years again.

@ those of you who are buying black iPhones just to return them for a white one: you really are douche bags. There are people who wanted to get a black one to keep, and you stole them from those people, just so you can have your freaking instant gratification. Just keep the damn black ones for christ's sake.
