Wow....I'm stunned at the data usages stated here....seriously mind blowing. I use my phone for work, travel a lot, do photography for a living and have gone over 3GB only once on my 6GB plan.

I guess people really do spend ALL their time on devices...just wow.

So I have a question that I'm sure has been answered a million times in this thread and Ive read all the posts and am still a bit confused.

I currently am grandfathered in to an unlimited data plan and want to hold on to this for as long as humanly possible.
I just want to confirm that when I get a new phone (either through AT&T next or the Apple upgrade program) that this won't affect my plan in any way, ill just be financing the phone, right? I think I have all that straight.

Finally, what do people think is better AT&T Next or the Apple program?

Thanks!

I have the same plan. I called AT&T and the lady told me if I choose the AT&T next option on the Apple website that I will NOT loose the grandfathered plan. I will just do the installment plan depending on the options I choose. They no longer have the 2 year reduced price phone thing anymore. Guess they no longer want to give us a discount and making us pay full price for the phone.

I think for the Apple program, if your not enrolled yet, you will have to pick up your phone if you go this route. Someone correct me if I am wrong?

I want to go with the Apple program, but I am not enrolled and think I have to go pick up the phone and sign some papers. If so, I will just use my upgrade and do the installments through AT&T.

I too have the UDP. I can't get over the fact that if I buy a new phone with ATT Next, Apple upgrade program or buy it out right that i'm paying twice for the phone.

Being on the older ATT UDP plan the cost of a subsidize phone is built into my phone bill. Every 2 years I get a large discount on a new phone to offset the that.

Under this new system we buy a new phone or lease it with no change to the phone bill. Essentially paying twice for the phone.

Exactly.. I had unlimited but looked at my data usage and determined that I always hovered slightly over 3GB usage. I never worried about connecting to Wi-Fi because I didn't have to. I decided to go ahead and change to a 3GB plan so that I could get on the Apple Upgrade program, get a new phone every year, and not pay for the phone twice. I'll just be sure to use Wi-Fi whenever possible now.

Oh, and I will be calling retention to see if they can increase my data soon lol. Another good thing is the new "no overages" plan. I don't mind going to 2G for a few days at the end of a billing period if I go over.

You are free to switch to a different plan and only pay for the once if you prefer.

My girlfriend is still grandfathered into her AT&T unlimited data plan. She won't be able to keep it if she purchases the new phone on Next, right? Full price would be her only option?

She can upgrade and keep her UDP plan.

The only way ATT will drop your unlimited data plan is if you make any changes to the data plan itself. You can upgrade through Next or buy the phone outright, it has nothing to do with your data plan unless you change it. I was able to upgrade to the 6 + two years ago and keep my UDP through Next. I'm holding onto my 6+ this time around, paying it off fully in Sept. and holding out to see what next year brings. The i7 hasn't really impressed me enough to switch.
