I don't remember my price going up with the subsidies going away.

I don't think mine has either...It was $150 for the longest time then when they decided to make the grandfathered data $5 more, it went to $160 but for some reason actually the last couple months it's been $145...It looks like the family unlimited messaging went down $10 for some reason. I've seen some posts about an "access charge" being lowered now that the subsidy is gone...Does that not apply to people with grandfathered data?
[doublepost=1473342296][/doublepost]So what I'm understanding is AT&T Next isn't anything that affects your plan, it's just basically a financing option to buy the phone, is that right? I always thought it was a whole new plan for some reason but now see that isn't the case! So now I'm trying to figure out what the best option is between the Next, Next Every Year and Apple Upgrade options...We always have just upgraded our phones every 2 years with the new contract, so with the Next Every Year, you pay for 12 months and then have to give them your phone and then get the new one? What about the regular Next, do you have to give them back the phone after 24 months or is it yours to keep and sell after that since you've already paid it off?

I was just going to get the new phone and switch my plan to unlimited with the directv offer and lose my unlimited grandfathered plan that we have.
That way my plan goes down in price with the new phone, 3 lines 22 gb should be enough.

Paying $260 a month now for 3 lines, 2 grandfathered and 1 on 3gb, Too much

What happens to the unlimited data if you cancel your direct tv?

I don't remember my price going up with the subsidies going away.

If I remember right data went up $5.

What happens to the unlimited data if you cancel your direct tv?

That is exactly why I've been hesitant to switch from grandfathered to the "bundle" deal....if we ever get rid of Direct TV then we will lose the unlimited data as well I believe

I asked about that, normally they would put you back on the original plan
But since the grandfathered plan is no more once you switch the plan they
A put you on is the 10 gb or a different plan of your choosing

I'm on the same boat as many here, single grandfathered UDP. Judging by the current offers, I heavily considering to switch to Tmobile One Unlimited which costs $70/mo and trade in my current iPhone 6 for a free iPhone 7.

I keep an unlimited service, and good thing coverage is good here in PNW for T-Mobile and at the same time no additional monthly fee for the phone since they'll give you credits, but you have to stay for 24mos with them to maintain the credits.

The complaint I hear about T-Mobile is that they may have decent coverage in metro areas but once you leave the city you're coverage wont be so good.

Yes that's what I heard too, which is why I'm lucky cause they have good coverage here in PNW.

I'm still waiting if At&t will pull a trade in offer too, to make the iPhone 7's cost lower or free like what T-Mobile offers. One can only hope.

Need some advice on what to do with this new pricing situation...I've always been on a 2 year contract with AT&T since the iPhone 3G and just always renewed my contract every 2 years, paid the $200 or so for a new phone, traded in my old phone to pay for the new one and that was that. Now this new pricing has me so confused...

My husband and I are on a shared plan, both have grandfathered unlimited data, have a FAN discount, and our bill is around $150 a month. They have been trying to get us to switch to a Next account for awhile and bundle with our uverse and direct tv but I've been hesitant to give up our grandfathered data plan.

So can anyone dumb down for me what our options are for upgrading and are we pretty much going to be forced to finally switch to the Next plan? We will both be getting new phones...so is that essentially just going to add on another $30-40 per phone to our monthly bill now?

If I were you, I'd pay cash for the phones and keep your plans as is.

My daughter used 31 gb in June, I used about 8. I'm keeping my unlimited plans until they drag them off, kicking and screaming.

Haha we don't use a ton of data but still don't really want to lose the option in case we ever need it! I just called AT&T and they said if we switched to the unlimited bundled plan, it would only save about $10 a month so definitely not worth it to change right now! She said if we go through AT&T Next that it won't affect anything with our plans, we would still keep the grandfathered data so I guess that is what we will do

I wish phone companies weren't so shady. If you have 5GB and hit 6GB they charge what $10 for that overage? Why not just bump your plan to the next data category? They did the same thing with text messaging but now they have lost that cash cow thanks to iMessage, Whatsapp, facebook messenger and other like apps.

did she get throttled? I somehow use 20GB of data a month, via social media and forums, no games and minimal video streaming. I cant even see how that's possible, the service in my office is terrible. i'm wondering if that attributed to the high data since it always loading.

Something can't be right with your situation. I am on forums a lot of the time on my phone, youtube occasionally Netflix and download a lot of podcasts and I barely hit 7GB.

Just like you guys, I'm part of that Grandfathered plan. Currently paying $141 per month for 550min, unlimited data and text for two lines.

Looking to get a 7+ for me and a 7 for the wife. I see some of you have said you can keep our grandfathered plan and still do the AT&T Next plan. If I can upgrade every year to a new phone, I don't mind doing the lease thing but I'm not seeing where you can do that and still keep the grandfathered plan in place.

I'm not sure why people are willing to go through NEXT if it's a lease. I just buy the phone outright, sell my old for $500ish. I realize not everyone can afford to purchase outright, but then if you can't afford to do that you should examine your priorities.

I still have the AT&T unlimited data plan also and plan to use Apple's payment plan. That way, I can pay it off with no interest, keep my current grandfathered plan, and upgrade phones annually.

My parents have an unlimited sprint plan. I just called up and they will add two lines for me at 30each. And will take $10 a month off the price of the phone. Is there any reason to hold on to this holy grail att plan anymore? I'm now paying $185 a month for two lines and now have to tack on 70-80 a month for phones.

Hey guys, a couple questions if you don't mind:

1. I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan. I got an S+last year and signed the final 2-yr contract ATT offered. Am I still able to sign up for the apple upgrade plan tonight even though I'm one year into the 2-yr contract? Do I just pay my ATT bill as normal going forward without it touching my unlimited data? I don't have to trade in my phone right?

2. I use a fan discount for my unlimited plan, does that disqualify me for apple upgrade plan?

Thank you

You can always start the "lease" then sell the phone and pay off the rest of the balance.

Yes. Because sprint sucks.

Ah okay. I thought it you had to turn it over at the end.
It's only a 0% loan I believe. You are still paying the full amount. I'm moving from a 2yr contract though so wtf do I know. Ha

Found this... it seems you can choose to either pay off the remainder or hand in your phone.

My girlfriend is still grandfathered into her AT&T unlimited data plan. She won't be able to keep it if she purchases the new phone on Next, right? Full price would be her only option?

Wrong. Next is just the payment plan for the phone. The service line is completely untouched (as long as you don't touch it).
