It's funny how every year the line increases. These people are waiting outside 20 days in advance. Next year, 25? 30? At what point are you waiting in line for 6 months for the new iPhone.

But you know I don't hate this, I think it's pretty funny and I find it entertaining to see these people doing this for some reason.

Choo choo!! Let the hype train commence!

I love all the comments showing how many people don't even bother a quick scan of the article, much less actually watching the short video, but feel compelled to leave a comment telling them to get a job or call it pathetic all the time being clueless that these are people promoting companies or apps. Either their own or someone they work for.

Yes, continue being brainwashed little worker drones. We need you to serve us food, manufacture goods, be code monkeys, etc.

Us self-employed salute you!

Yea. It might actually be some kind of test Macrumors is doing. Everyone who posts something like "They have no lives" or "Why do stupid people do this?" should get their accounts suspended, and the average IQ in the forums will immediately go up by 20%.

I was trying to decide what to write in response to the endless inane responses, but I think you have it well covered. I might have been nicer, but then, why?

The problem with this logic is that they didn't just sell being first in line, they profited from moving everyone behind them one further spot back. Could these dudes, because they are in first, sell 500 people the opportunity to stand in front of them?

Sounds to me like a mutiny in the works... going to be an awkward 7 days.
Do you think that "give up the first place in line" might actually mean they step out of the line rather than just let Wacko and Loser jump in front?

These young whippersnappers think they are so tough, camping out for days for an iPhone. When I was a kid, we'd line up for over a week for the new abacus.

Does seem odd, but I really don't expect this to get to 6 months.

That is just a job at that point.

Or just don't have the attention span to read just another crappy self-publicist non-news item.

But they have the attention to post a reply to a post they didn't read? Nope I am assuming they just looked at pictures, cause the words are too much for them.

Wait, I might just start lining up in front of the Apple Store in London and then sell my spot in the queue to make a large chunk of $$$.

Based on past timelines, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could become available beginning on Friday, September 19.

This is awful for all of us who bought the iPhone 5 on Sept. 21, 2012 and are on a two-year contract.

OMG You are going to be stuck with a phone that's OBSOLETE for as many as THREE DAYS until you are blessed by corporate America to have a new one.

Don't all vendors let you "early upgrade" a month or two before the full two years?

If you are on ATT then dial *639# to check upgrade status .. They might waive* the 2 day early upgrade ...

I bought mine first day of preorders 2 years ago and I'm eligible (with that ridiculous $40 upgrade fee and a new 2 year contract).

They don't actually make you wait 2 whole years. It's just close to that.

I'd call them hippies, but then it would imply that they were smart enough to stand for something. These are just lifeless attention whore trolls who take life for granted.

Getting an iPhone is not the point, clearly: if you know enough about Apple to want one THAT bad and know about these events, then you also know new models are not coming to the store right away.

At this point it has become nothing but an "out there" social event. If you're into that, you can feel like one of a small select group who does "such and such activity." All the more a source of "pride" by being difficult and uncomfortable, I suppose. (Like being a bike messenger maybe?)

I am not into that. You couldn't pay me enough.

Add it to the LONG list of social activities I just don't get: Apple Store campouts, drunken bar crawls, cruising the shopping mall, riding in circles in extra-loud modified vehicles, SuperBowl parties, loud clubs where you cannot converse, packed crowds where you cannot move, concerts where you cannot hear the music clearly, window-shopping for clothes, church, waiting in line to renew your driver's license... you name it.

The human race gets up to come real nuttiness: if it's not for you, at least enjoy the spectacle!

I'm with you on a some of these, except modded cars and SB parties. 4 people in a line isn't much of a spectacle. :D

As is typical, many of the campers lining up early are participating in publicity stunts to garner recognition for their companies, given the media attention early waiters tend to receive.

Proof that very few people read the articles.

For a lot Millenials, TLDR and YOLO are a way of life. Wasting time reading articles when you could be ignorantly opining on that article? Now that just be silly for them.

Don't worry about it. Remember when AT&T made a deal with the iPhone 4 by shortening the iPhone 3G contracts by half a year? I'm eligible for an upgrade as of last week from buying the iPhone 5. I did pre-order though.

Not true, I bough mine in Oct 2011 and now I'm able to upgrade under ATT plan with discount. What carrier is yours?
