Bluetooth tethering from the iPhone to the iPad does not work. Period.

Netshare App (the old tethering application apple removed shortly after it was released) also does not work.

MyWi on a jailbroken iPhone is the only way of tethering, by turning your phone into a wifi hotspot / access point.

Unfortunately, i think MacRumorUser is correct :(

I just got my iPad today and no luck at all with the tethering either.

Bumping an old thread, now that AT&T offers a tethering option...

From what I've read here, it is (or at least "was") impossible to tether from an iPhone to an iPad without jailbreaking. With iOS 4 out and AT&T offering this option, is it still true?

Thanks!

Yes. I believe so. Because the iPhone can tether via USB or Bluetooth, but there is no way for the iPad to get the connection. If the iPhone offered a tethering option where it created a Wi-Fi signal (as Android does), you could easily tether to the iPad.

Thanks! I know that the iPad doesn't have a USB port. Can I take it that it doesn't have Bluetooth either?

Dude. Steve Jobs said no tethering of the iPhone to the iPad. Why do you think this would change?

Why would you make the monumental leap that there is no BT because it doesn't have a USB port? You know that Apple has an iPad spec page that would answer quite many of your questions.

It has bluetooth. It just can't call up an internet connection with it.

This is partially correct. Apple has chosen not to implement that entire BT protocol stack. A2DP is not fully implemented as well. Maybe in the future Apple will add this but after 3 years worth of iPhones and Job's emphatic statement, it does not look like there will be tethering between and iPhone and iPad.

There are iPad tethering solutions that have been mentioned in this forum.

Thanks. I realise that you can jailbreak your iPhone to enable tethering between the two (at least from what I read in this thread). That's not an option for me, but it's still good to know. :)

if you put your phone sim in a ipad can you make calls lolololol but im seriously wondering

No worries. I can't be bothered with jailbreaking and such either. I am pretty lucky though. As I work for the Gov't, we get our iPhones unlocked from whatever operator we choose.

is it possible....?

Is this a junky post...How can you put your sim card in IPAD...lolzzzz
Well, this is could happen in one way only if you certain program who can easily been jailbreak the Ipad software...But that's weird

You need to jailbreak both the iPhone and the iPad to use tether me and ithether. Works very well. I am on a jailbroken 3gs and a 16g wifi only iPad right now. Your choice to jailbreak, but it can be done. Works for me and I also have SBToggles to turn it on and off with. I believe your other choice is MyWi and it makes a hot spot for you. I just want to tether the iPad so the $7.00 choice is mine :D

I know nothing, it works for me

I'm on my iPad now. I am tethering from my iPhone 4 using PDAnet. It works great!

iPad tethering is the only reason I want to jailbreak my iPhone. Is MyWi the ONLY wifi hotspot creater? What happened to the HandyLight app? I know it got yanked from Apple's site but what about the jailbreak community? Supposedly I found the IPA file online.

What keeps the IPA file from being passed around?

How much is PDAnet? How did you tether it? Online all I see is creating ad-hoc networks to get it running on a MacBook.

I have an iPhone 4 and wifi iPad. While traveling for business I use my jailbroken iPhone and mywi app to get the internet on my iPad. Its actually a lot better than I thought it would be. The only issue is that if you want to watch streaming video or anything with a higher bandwidth need, make sure your phone is in a good service area. Also, it would help to have an unlimited data plan on your iPhone since the data adds up very quickly.

Did something change with iOS 4.2 on the tethering front?

I would love to be able to tether iphone to ipad preferably over bluetooth.
