I have a 2G iphone and i have a small crack on the side of the glass on the front that breaks my heart everytime I look at it. Do you think I would have to take it across the border to get fixed or (hopefully) replaced?

Yes and that would most likely be considered damage so you'd have to pay too.

The data is really nice. Although right now I'm not using it that much, I know I will when I go back to university in august. Besides, if I decide I don't want the data I can just call up and remove that from my plan.

I seem to recall seeing that there is a separate cancellation clause for the 6G data plan that I think was $20 per month.

Canada reception quality

While I was almost certainly going to get two iPhones by the end of this month, the recent flood of bad reception comments, including short antennas, etc. has made me lean toward waiting a year or so for the technology to work itself out.

I was wondering if people in Canada in general, and Vancouver in particular are having any phone reception problems.

Also, I have tried to access www.yahoo.jp in various store iPhones and only once not run into "server unavailable" comments. Can anyone with an iPhone in real life check and let me know if they have any problems connecting to that site, and whether there is really full internet access or if various servers are reported to be unavailable, thanks.:)

sure wait a year and the new iPhone 4G will be out, and you'll have to work out the kinks there too..then wait another year...and another...

you get the idea?

If you need it, want it now, buy it. I personally don't have these connection problems and I am in Toronto, Canada

I've had no reception problems anywhere is Southern Ontario and Calgary.

Yahoo.jp came up for me.

Did you have any luck? I'm in the same boat as you... Rogers said there's nothing they can do (I've had the phone for a week, but put over 30 minutes on it).

How about Apple Stores in Canada? Would they be able to replace them out?

yes you are correct... i remember the dude telling me when i selected the 3GB plan... 3 year contract for the 3GB plan too!

Thanks Hutch1, I've got two weeks left to decide [assuming that the data plan doesn't get extended before the deadline] certainly if my wife cannot access yahoo.jp, there's no point in getting this as I want it primarily so she can websurf at the park. I really don't have much use for an iPhone, but it might turn out to be something that finds a way to become something useful in unexpected ways. I don't really need it for an ego toy, but since I switched to an iMac last year, and we have the MobileMe, I am considering just giving my technology focus over to Apple and see what happens, got a 1Tb time capsule last week, still not sure about Apple TV...I have an old HP MediaCentre PC which I might try hooking up to the TV and streaming to, ... of just be a total Applehead...decisions decisions...:p

Cancelation for the 6GB data plan is $10 a month up to a maximum of $100.

I don't recall there being a 3GB plan, are you sure?

iPhone with no data on a couples plan?

Some people just don't want the extra expense, but still want to have the best phone on the market. To me, the $30 for 6GB plan is worth every penny just for the GPS alone. It's very cool to be able to see where you are on a map, everywhere you go, especially for hiking and exploring.

I keep going back and forth on getting the iPhone. I finally decided it's just not worth it for me and my wife [couples plan]. When you add up all the bells and whistles to get it fully funtional [assuming the bugs are worked out] you are basically looking at paying for a pretty spiffy 46 inch 120 Hz HDTV over the life of the contract. I need the tv more. But I decided to switch from Bell to Fido just so we can be set up for an iPhone on our next contract. But, since I don't have an iPod I'm thinking, hey the iPhone with no data is still an iPod touch with a phone in it...hmm...

So has anyone tried to get two iPhones on a couples plan with no data plan, if so, how much did you end up paying for the phones?

Cancelation for the 6GB data plan is $10 a month up to a maximum of $100...QUOTE]has anyone considered asking to waive the first few months 6GB fee due to inconsisnte 3G service? I think I have too due to the horrible service :p

I tried out the GSP in Google maps at various locations in Victoria today and it zoomed in to a blue dot within 5 seconds or less while before the 2.0.2 update, it would take over a minute assuming it would even lock in. The accuracy also seems to have improved from 2.0.1.

I'm on Fido BTW.

For $35 i got the My5 250 plan which gives me 250 anytime minutes, unlimited evening and weekend, 250 text, plus unlimited calling and text anywhere in Canada to any five numbers that I choose (they can be changed once a month). Plus the $35 6 Gb data and the $15 value pack. Plus my 10% VIP discount.

6Gb data
2750 Text messages
250 daytime minutes
unlimited weekends and evenings
visual Voice mail
who called
5 numbers unlimited calling and text

$80-10%=$72

The five numbers cover 99% of my long distance so there is real no long distance charges either.
Could you, or someone else please link me to the My5 plan? I can't seem to locate it on the Rogers website.

Many thanks!

I didn't think that Canadian Apple Stores were stocking any at all yet, so that's great news.

apple store west edmonton mall have some for replacement?
what do i do to get a new one? will they give me a white one if i ask for one?

which store did you go to? Was it difficult to request for a exchange? Do you get new one or refurbished one? Thanks

Eaton's Centre.

I made the appointment, went in the next day, stood in line, got a genius and said "My screen is slightly uneven, and there's a spec of dust under the screen". The genius looked it over, went to the back and came out with a new phone. It was in one of those white, replacement-only boxes, not a retail box. I don't think it was a refurb - I went and did this a few days after launch.

Pretty painless, to be honest.

For replacements only.

That's fine. I've already had to replace 2 of them (broken ringer switch in both cases) and have had work through Rogers and FedEx up to now. Hopefully I won't have to do it a third time, but it's nice to know I can pop in to the store to get it addressed if I do.

just got my replacement phone from Rogers today. First one had light leakage, jutting out display.

The replacement i got had scratches on the chrome, and very very tiny hairline cracks, scuffs? next to the volume button.

Not sure if I should exchange this one, but i called Rogers anyways to see what my options were. Was told, your iPhone is a refurb unit, we only send refurbs now, (bad news) although I was assured by the first CSR that the replacement iPhones are new but in white boxes.

So he said because your replacement is a refurb, scratches and stuff are normal. No exchange. :(
