i called rogers today, and they said if i want to gift my iphone to someone else, i can. so basically i can buy it on my account and then someone else can activate it. If so then can we buy it in the US apple store and activate it here?

You would have to physically go to a Apple Store buy the locked iPhone outright for $599 and then unlock it when you got back to Canada.

does anyone know that the 15$ JUST VOICE plan for the iphone 3g is actually available? because in the newspaper last saturday (montreal gazette) it had a long article about the iphone 3g with rogers including some of the plans. One section of it said the folowing " rogers said that plans with only voice and basic text will start at 15$ per month" i havent found proof of this on their site so i would like to know if anyone can confirm this article!

thanks :)

and that probably means you ll never be able to upgrade software straight from iTunes because it will lock your phone back up to AT&T... i think,, at least thats what i understand i would very much wish i was wrong tho

Hey guys, i have a slight.. situation on my hands. Basically, had a phone 930 friday morning, they couldnt HUP bc SalesCentral was dead na dphones were just on hold fo rlitreally hours.. anyway said theyd call when it was ready, called sat, they said its not ready, cant do it yet. I know for a FACT tons of stores were doing HUPs for iphones today, and all perfectly fine across the country. So, I'm starting to think they sold my phone that was 'guaranteed mine, on hodl they they ould do the HUP and activate'

What shoudl i do? I'm going in tomorrow, ready to haveeguns blazing if they did sell it.. It's one thig on a regular phone they hav ea ton of.. but limited stock, waiting in line for quite a while, then instore for 4 hours whiel they tried to HUP and everything make sit a COMPLETELY diffrent story, escially being told its mien forsure, safe, theyll call when they can HUP and activate..

More detailed post at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/519915/.

Please giv eme your input, what should i do if they did, what would, in you opinion, i be entitled to?

I'm aware that you need to add a voice plan in conjunction with the 30$ 6GB data plan, but does anyone know if you can add unlimited text at all? Please help. Thank you.

You can't get unlimited Text but with the new iPhone "value pack" for $15/month you get 2,500 Text msg, visual voicemail, caller id & who called.

Free Ringtones on a Mac

When is the canadian iTunes store getting ringtones?

Or am I blind and they already have them?

You can already get them on the Cdn iTunes store, you right click on a song you purchased on iTunes and choose conver to ringtone.
OR
If you own a Mac with a recent iLife, use Garage Band to make free ringtones:

- Open Garage Band, create a new project.
- Click icon in bottom right that says view media
- Drag any song without DRM from your iTunes into Garage Band
- Set the start/stop of the clip (30-40secs max)
- Choose to send to iTunes as a ringtone

I am at work on a PC so I don't have Garage Band in front of me and can't tell you where to find these options but its there.

Make a ringtone by:

Choosing "Convert to AAC" in iTunes.
Right-clicking the new AAC and clicking "Get Info".
Set the start and stop time (it's in one of the tabs).
Delete the file, but select "Keep file".
Search for the song name in Spotlight
Choose the short file and rename the extension to ".m4r"
Drag it back into iTunes.
New ringtone.

or oyu can also go to nakko.com and make your own for free or simply download some of teh premade ones in there...

Yes, I am despite it all. I was in the lineup at Rogers on Robson and Seymour on Friday from 6:30 and had to leave at 11:00 Not one person had their iphone yet at that time. The first 6 people were in the store all that time. They took our names down, and asked us to come back Saturday morning. I arrived at 7:00AM and the store manager was already there, so he let me in, did the whole process, and I walked it with the 8GB. No one else was there at the time.

Last night I did a Restore and Update to get the latest firmware which fixed the lag that a lot of people had with the contacts search fields. I also turned off Location Services which helps the 3G speed.

so, everyone happy with the way things turned out?

Not sure if anyone's aware of this, but I just got through to Rogers on the phone and was told that because I'm on a family plan, and the other line did a hardware upgrade last year, that it extended the contract on the other line too. So I'd have to pay $449 for the 16gig (which they're completely out of and was told they couldn't order one for me) plus a $35 charge. This is ridiculous.

Personally, I will not be getting an iPhone until Rogers actually improves their plans/pricing. I will not pay over $70 a month for the iPhone. I mean come on, I would love to have one, it is just way too much money for lots of people. I will wait for Rogers to fix their plans/pricing. I think most people feel this way to, and will continue to wait.

i think most people feel this way, but they won't wait, i man, look at the way things are, iPhones are pretty much sold out(or very close to) everywhere in Canada no? sooooo yeah that's a pretty good strong msg to rogers.. everybody seems to complain about prices, but still whatever price they put they sell out sooooooo... why would they care, i do understand that they would sell even more phones if the price was lower (plan price) but why do tehy care? they sold all their phones....

I issue a WARNING to all potential Rogers Customers!

I just got off the phone with them doing a Number Port.

they informed me that since my voiceplan was less than $30, I am no longer eligible to get the iPhone for $199.

They want an extra $50. I was NOT informed of this by the store where i bought my iPhone.

Just figured everyone should know about this little "fee"

if anyone is feeling bad about their price then consider the price i paid to get the iphone
my brohter used the account for a year, then i took it over this may. so basiclly they took out all the revenue on the account from the previous year, and my plan is 20 base so no credit......but here is what i paid

16GB Black

450 + 35 activation fee + tax = 548.78

basiclly i paid 170 over the mrsp

More like you paid $250 over the mrsp... that's crazy.

yeah today I called them up to see about an upgrade. They said I am eligible but it will be 249 for the 8 gb. Hmmm. I think I want to wait for the white one instead. So I'm guessing that d be 349. I dunno.

Those RAT BASTARDS!

Really, we should all be complaining to the CRTC or whomever it is about this because it's blatantly false advertising.

If someone can find this info in writing, then I'll retract my statement. But likely I won't have to.

Hey i just had a quick question if i get an iPhone without a data plan (i have wifi at university and at home mostly where i'll be using the phone) Does the iphone need to be connected to the internet to send text messages? I'd assume it's like any other phone and i don't require an internet connection or am i wrong?
