Well, if you did order in the UK you are going to be one lonely Zune owner. No one else to squirt to. I don't know why you think you would get any kind of a different response than you did on this thread. What were you expecting? The Dell I can kind of see if you are sitting on the OSX fence but the Zune is a universally panned media player. From where I am sitting, the whole thread looks like it was designed to inflame, i.e. troll.

But possibly people should check things and know the facts before they claim someone is telling porkies?

Why would I lie about it anyway, what personal gain do I get from it? Come on people get real, I posted here because I thought I had made a mistake by cancelling my order and wanted to know if other people thought I had also made a mistake, I didn’t post to be ridiculed by people who think they know it all when in fact they don’t

After wanting a Mac for a long time, firstly a MacBook but then when the new iMac came out I fell in love with it, I finally placed an order on September 13th for a 20” 2.4GHz iMac and also an iPod Touch (£85 off with BtS rebate). This morning I checked my order status and it was still on “not yet shipped” I phoned apple and got some story about that it has to come from china and it is normal to take a month from order to delivery dates, so I decided that I should cancel my order because I was sick of waiting and the apple support was no help,

After I had cancelled my order I placed an order for a Dell XPS210 and a Zune, at the time I thought it was the right decision and since both could be ready and delivered next week I was more then happy enough to order knowing I would finally have my own computer again, but when I arrived home from work this evening my 1GB stick of iMac RAM had arrived from crucial, this has now caused me to have a dilemma, I really want the iMac and iPod touch but I’m sick of waiting and having a substandard service from apple,

Also just to help with the situation my 250GB My Book Pro arrived this afternoon, which was obviously bought to match my Alu iMac and to be ready for leopard

So my options are:

Cancel the Dell and Zune and place another order with Apple for the iMac and iPod Touch?

Or

Keep the order I have placed for the Dell and Zune and return the RAM to crucial and the 250GB My Book Pro to Amazon?

If you want your computer now, why not go to an Apple retail store or another Apple reseller and get your iMac?

It should not take a month for your computer though, sadly that rep was ill-informed. It should maybe take 2 weeks.

Ok, fine, I still think you are trollng, but if I were to take your post as truth, I think you made a misake. I think you cut off your nose to spite your face. Cancelling a great product for a throghly average product becuase it's "quicker" is just plain daft.

Would I get HE discount at other stores appart from the apple ones? And would they give the full HE discount and the Back to School offer?

I bought...

I bought a Windoze based Palm Treo because my contract with Verizon ended before the iPhone went on sale. I've had to reset the darm thing at least once a week and sometimes several times a day.

It rings and I don't hear a ring, It set itself up for a 4:22AM alarm on Wednesdays and Thursdays and I couldn't figure out what it kept ringing at 4:22 but only on some days at that ungodly hour.

It does do the 'internet', in like extremely small screen and most sites have to be specially setup for them to work at that so most blow chunks or don't work.

I signed into my yahoo.com email through their yahoo mail craplet and now no one else can use it for their account!

And you want a Zune?

I know and that’s how I’ve started to feel when I got home from work this evening, I think having my 1GB stick of RAM turn up was the thing that made me realise that I had planned everything out for my iMac and Touch (I bought a universal dock off eBay, firewire//usb cable for syncing and charging, My book Pro HDD for use with time machine when leopard arrives, a cool looking aluminium 4 usb hub so I could plug everything into the iMac and the extra GB of RAM) The dell was just an impulse buy because I noticed some £££’s off coupons on the net and thought it might be worth a look, clearly I have made a “daft” mistake and now I realise its worth cancelling my other orders and re-placing the order with apple even if I have to wait another month, sorry for coming across as an arse in my previous posts but im sure you can understand how I feel after the whole order thing with apple and then being silly and cancelling my order in what could only be descried as an “I hate apple heated rage”

If I NEED a laptop on a business trip next week, it's much more sensible to go for an express option.

I don’t need it for anything like that, I was just fed up of waiting and having to use a family members 3 y/o laptop that struggles to load IE

I've filled all of my memory sticks for my camera also (the main reason im buying the iMac, Photography) so its a pain not being able to go out and take some photos to take my mind off the shipping time of my order,

3 hour drive = much shorter than 3 weeks delivery, or even dell's "one week" yea... right, thats what they told my bro, took a little over 2... Anywho, make a holiday out of it. Drive down, and hang around town for the day before coming back.

[Mod note: Merged threads, please read up on the rules and do not post multiple threads again.]

Gee leesee, Dell/ Ravi in Bangladesh support, Zune, more MS copy-a winner style, or new products from the best on the planet, I dunno, .................
Your call

Is posting the exact same thread on two different forums considered double or cross posting? ;)

Stetwin your question is valid as well as how you feel. I can feel your anxiety for the distance to the nearest Apple store (I have great friends who live in the UK).
I know how it is to wait for something that you have ordered, I have had the same feeling.
So yes I sympathise with you on that.
as far as your purchases well.......tha's definetly all on you. Why, cuz in the end it won't be us who benefit from this but you. And seeing as how the UK is more expensive than the US I suggest you make a decision soon before you greatly regret it.
For my money I rather go with Apple. Why, well because after three years, many lost files, several reinstalling (XP), and two PCs I decided that no matter what, who, when or why, I would stay with Apple. I am more than surpirsed that for $45 I was able to get an old system that not only works, but it it made the two (free) PCs look like paper weights.
I am as anxious as the nest apple geek for the new OS X and seeing as how my "vintage" system is no NEW mac it can still keep up with the new iNTELL macs. I will have to wait a bit longer to get my G4 up to date (-$.$$) with more ram, a new PPC (if i can find it) prosessor, vid cards and all the fixin's that my lil G4 needs in order to "catch up". Again this will take time, but I rather wait than use the ZUNE to make holes on my walls. the decision is yours to make, but make sure you are able enough to live with the consequences.

:apple:

Just go to your nearest Apple Store. We have 11 of them now in the UK, and the UK isn't that big.

Now my problem is an apple order will take another month and the dell will take about a week, I’m already using a laptop that I’ve had to borrow and ive had it for almost a month so far and I couldn’t ask the owner to continue to loan me it because when I asked to borrow it I told them I wouldn’t need it for long because my new computer should ship in 4 days….

I know i will enjoy the apple products more, but the waiting time is ridiculous, I could walk to my local apple store (which is 3+ hours drive away) and get it my bloody self before apple even changes my order status from “not yet shipped”

The reason I bought from apple now was because the UK back to school offer, and after waiting for the best part of a month for my order to ship I phoned support today and got a very unhelpful member of the sales team which just pushed me enough to cancel my order there and then, now I fear that I may have made a mistake by cancelling my order but I don’t know if I can wait until some time in November to get something from Apple,

I know and that is now what I fear, I cancelled the order after speaking to a very unhelpful member of phone support and since I got home from work at 8:30 and noticed my RAM and external hdd had arrive I’m already having second thoughts

But to order from apple now would mean I would be looking at some time in November for a delivery date

Nearest apple store is over 3 hours drive, and i would return the external hdd because i dont need an external fw800 drive if i dont have the mac, i could settle for something a lot cheaper for the Dell system

It seems to me that you really don't know what you want for yourself. I take it that you are a recent switcher (or would be switcher). I get the feeling that you would have liked to buy a Mac, but because of the shipping time (and it really was a very bad shipping time), you decided that you could forgo the experience of switching and simply settle for a subpar Dell and an MP3 player that has been routinely compared to excrement.

I think you need to ask yourself if you really want a Mac at this time. Frankly, if I was in your position, I'd be upset that Apple could get my order to me in a timely fashion. However, I would understand that there is a terrible storm in China right now, and that some things are beyond even Apple's control. My solution would be to speak with Apple about it and maybe have them make it up to me in another way (upgrade my order to include more RAM, upgrade my iPod, give me an iTunes giftcard, etc.).

Then again, I like using OS X and Apple products. To me, there's no going back. Granted I put up with them at work or school, but when it comes to spending my hard earned dollars (pounds in your case), I won't settle for second-best (or, depending on your outlook, worst).

So, to sum it up: if you really find Apple's customer service to be abhorant, then don't buy from Apple. There are many PC companies in this world, along with many MP3 players. If, however, Apple Customer Service hasn't been rude to you, cut them some slack for a storm that is really out of their control and be more understanding.

Lastly, are you positive there aren't any Apple resellers in your area? Granted the Apple Store might be 3 hours away, but that doesn't mean that you can't find a shop that sells Apple products. Look at this some more before you decide that going to a physical store is simply out of the question. Also, what about Amazon? Surely they have some stock. If nothing else, the next time you need to go towards the Apple Store for other reasons, swing by and get yourself whatever you want. It is a possibility.

I'd rather buy a Mac+iPod over being GIVEN a Dell+Zune.

Hmm. That's funny, because I would take the Dell+Zune and convince a dozen other people to switch by showing them how bad those products are:p

If it were me, I would walk into my home office everyday, look at my new shiny Dell and Zune and just sigh to myself," you again".

It's all really a no-brainer.
