After I had cancelled my order I placed an order for a Dell XPS210 and a Zune, at the time I thought it was the right decision and since both could be ready and delivered next week I was more then happy enough to order knowing I would finally have my own computer again, but when I arrived home from work this evening my 1GB stick of iMac RAM had arrived from crucial, this has now caused me to have a dilemma, I really want the iMac and iPod touch but I’m sick of waiting and having a substandard service from apple,

Just curious: Where in the UK did you order a Zune?

ok, first, you posted on a mac forum, so what did you expect?

but second, if what you really prefer is the mac/ipod, go with that. The delay is annoying, but the other option is years of use with products that are ok, but not really what you wanted. Years! Over a couple of weeks delay now! Don't be short sighted about this.

Ok I'm assuming you are genuine and I truely believe you've made a mistake.

So this is what I would do...

1) Cancel both the Dell and the Zune.
2) Get a train ticket to Either Glasgow/Manchester/Birmigham or even London
3) (Having phoned and paid over the phone) Go to said store and pick up iMac
4) Get a taxi back to the Station and get the train home.

If the Touch is out then grab one of those too. Not sure they out here yet though.

It'll be exciting and fun coming home with your baby.

Go on you know you want to!

Good Luck

:D

The touch is out, and that's very good advice for the super-impatient providing the back to school offers apply.

I'm no apple fanboy, but a dell!?

christ, my friends 1 year old dell is already struggling, her and her sister are thinking of buying macs after seeing mine...

dell is like the dog turd of the computer industry, my aunts 8 month old dell laptop struggles with simple tasks like IE and word, although thats probably because of her norton internet suite using massive amounts of ram and cpu...

I own a Dell m1210 and it is incredible. I've had 3 Dells and they have all performed flawlessly. My only problem with Dell (as a company) has been their outsourcing of customer service. Keep in mind that I also love my mac, so I'm fairly impartial on the subject. My advice to anyone is to buy from the XPS line if you do buy a Dell. The quality of build is far superior to their lower-level consumer line in my experience. Also, it seems that almost everyone I talk to is happy with Dell monitors considering their connectivity, quality, and price.

Sorry, I wasn't going to respond to this thread due to its troll-ish title, but I feel obligated to defend Dell when I read comments like this. When a company has repeatedly delivered quality products to me, I feel some sense of loyalty. Apologies to others who have had less enjoyable experiences with Dell. No apologies to anyone who just likes to jump on the "Dell sucks" bandwagon.

Peace,

Ado

What I take away from things like this are that due to the nature of things outside of Dell's control (like the OS or status of 3rd party virus software mentioned in the other post), experiences will vary drastically with Dells.

It is one more reason to go with the Mac. While Macs users also have varying user experiences, there is a lot more consistency because the variables have been drastically reduced because Apple controls the OS, and 3rd party software for viruses and spyware are unneeded and therefore can not be hogging down system resources.

OP, go with the iMac and touch. I happened to buy a new Dell a little while back, resisting every recommendation to Apple. About a year later after saving up, I came home from New York City with a sexy blackbook, replacing it with a MacBook Pro on the 1st of July. Windoze is just awkward to use now, in school, I can manage due to past experience with the 'doze, but once you go Mac, you don't go back.

As for Zoon, I saw one once.

I bought my wife a couple of XPS 210's. ugh. The fans are so loud anytime a flash app or about any intensive app runs. My imacs are whisper quiet.

OMG!

a) Where are you getting the zune from? It hasnt been released in the UK yet which means you must be buying from the US and paying import 30% and waiting a fair bit.

b) You obviously have no clue about computing and are just going on the looks of the machines. There again why the Zune and Dell? Maybe its because they're the biggest names you've heard of.

I get the feeling that even if you do go ahead and buy the mac and iPod you'll still go back to windows next year

This is starting to look like a troll thread.

If making this decision was as important as the topic creator made it out to be, then he would have posted back by now. He last visited on the 9/28.

That, and the fact there is no Zune in the UK. He could have imported one, but that's too much hassle.

Ok buy according to your needs

We have a vista powerhouse at home. For what my husband uses it, no way no how an Apple would have done.

Now, due to the vista issues (OS), I am going to buy a mac for my box. I only want to fight one box at a time

Now I need it to word process, and some other applications, that the power machine does damn well thank you... as long as you don't care for the vista issues.

If you really want the dell, and I would not buy from dell becuase of who they give money to politically, not becuase they make bad machines. I'd recommend you get XP, and wait until SP 1 for vista

But buy a machine to fill your needs

Also, and this is me. I buy machines to last. The laptop I am posting from is an HP, and it is just eight years old... and if it wasn't on its last days, I'd push this hardware even farther and longer. At this point it may be relegated to a concept art machine.

So how long do you want your machine to last? And what are your needs?

If you going to get a PC I suggest HP over Dell. Last few Dells we've had at work have been crap compared to the HPs. But I also suggest just waiting for the Mac. No idea about the Zune, I've never even seen one besides the advertisements.

You will have a happy box! I hope your husband is ok with that!

After wanting a Mac for a long time, firstly a MacBook but then when the new iMac came out I fell in love with it, I finally placed an order on September 13th for a 20” 2.4GHz iMac and also an iPod Touch (£85 off with BtS rebate). This morning I checked my order status and it was still on “not yet shipped” I phoned apple and got some story about that it has to come from china and it is normal to take a month from order to delivery dates, so I decided that I should cancel my order because I was sick of waiting and the apple support was no help,

Also just to help with the situation my 250GB My Book Pro arrived this afternoon, which was obviously bought to match my Alu iMac and to be ready for leopard

So my options are:

Cancel the Dell and Zune and place another order with Apple for the iMac and iPod Touch?

Or

Keep the order I have placed for the Dell and Zune and return the RAM to crucial and the 250GB My Book Pro to Amazon?
