Personally, I walked into the store to get one.

Though the inventory was down at CompUSA, and the Apple Store was in the center next door.

It was easier to buy the machine and some other stuff that the Apple Store doesn't carry, than make 2 trips.

But one day long trip, might be easier than waiting a couple weeks if I wasn't near any store carrying Apple gear.

So... your tired of using an old computer so you go out and blow 2k for a MBP, 1.5k for an iMac, $250+ for an iPod, and more for an external HD and some RAM. You get bored of waiting, so you cancel part of your order to go out and spend another thousand or so on crap just because it will get to your house faster?... And all you would have had to do was drive 3 hours to pick one up the same day? This makes absolutely no sense.

IMO this post is ridiculous...

Is it me or is this whole thing about the kid canceling his order, trolling these forums, and then being pissed off because nothing shipped and therefore moving to Dell+Zune? Oddly, is it also odd that he's going to get what I consider an inferior machine because shipping delays due to what I believe was a tragic event overseas? Or is that so over that now there is no reason for a delay?

If you're going for Windows...

If you're going for Windows, I say get a Dell. They're cheap and, in my experience, are pretty good machines. But the Zune? C'mon! If you want to stay away from Apple products, go Creative Zen.

*Sigh* why would anyone buy a Zune?

Soooooo.......

If the iPod Touch was the delay, and your bundled order is now canceled, why not just re-order the iMac by iteself, and have it shipped in the standard 2-4 days? I don't get why you keep repeating over and over that you have to wait another month or until November for your iMac?

Apple Stores have had the touch in stock since a week after release. The iMac is most likely available. Don't Europeans have trains to get them everywhere? You don't even need to drive, and you get it the same day!

Stetwin, hurry up an do SOMETHING. Anything! Or else that Dell will ship and then you'll go 'no wait, I want a Mac'. But no!

Nearest apple store is over 3 hours drive, and i would return the external hdd because i dont need an external fw800 drive if i dont have the mac, i could settle for something a lot cheaper for the Dell system
So you dont have any other types of electronics stores in your area that might carry Macs?

Stet,

honestly, you'll regret keeping the zune and dell. you'll always wonder....what if....

here's a thought i might have in your shoes, "could it be that the macs are taking forever to ship b/c they are in high demand and ppl want them b/c they work so well?"

not meant sarcastically btw.

the only regret about giving my kids my old pc when i got my 24" imac is that i'm subjecting them to windows...

Cheers,
keebler

I'm sure you could sacrifice one day out of your life to drive towards an Apple store and purchase it on the spot instead of waiting an entire month for it to ship.

What I find so funny... is that one of the reasons for canceling the apple order was bad customer service that he didn't want to deal with.

Granted, the lady on the phone wasn't useful, and while a few requests for transfers and specific info might have gotten you somewhere... it was still poor service, however, in all my friends, family and personal experience Apple cs has been extremely useful and great about keepin their customers happy, and you could probably find a decent amount of people who feel that way if he were to browse the forums.

That aside, the funny part is that aside from shipping times, he went to DELL to get away from poor customer service. DELL. The same Dell that took my roommate 2 hours on the phone to replace a battery, and my boyfriend another 2 hours to get a new charger when his died... and the same dell that replaced parts on my friends computer with defective parts after a week of back and forth on hold and trying to actually be able to use his warrenty.

You go DELL? honestly. Their customer service will make you regret your decision the first time something fails on their hardware... weeks without your computer instead of days... and hours on hold. Enjoy.

Nearest Apple Store

I know three hours is a hike for an Apple store but don't you have Apple specialists in the UK. For every Apple store here in the States we have 3-5 Apple specialists in the vicinity. Some are specialty stores either dealing with music or the visual arts and others are ma & pa computer retailers (non company stores) some Apple only others carrying multiple computer brands. Checking the UK Apple site for the Knightsbridge Somerset Area it shows 35 Apple resellers way more than I would find in a similar search in the US. So you did not look very hard for an alternative. I think you you just wanted to see if you could get Apple followers shorts in a bunch.

Durham Eh!

*twigs*
I call BS on this entire thread, the zune isn't even for sale in the UK, and you say you are in Durham - England.
Time to stop now don't you think?

Well if you search the Apple/UK site you'll find it responds with 40 apple resellers when you search Durham. The first one is PCW Durham in the Rennys Lane Retail Park do not know if they carry the complete line Apple line and you will not get your education discount but you can WALK home with your computer.

Hes right, i live in a small town 20 miles from anything in the UK and i can think of at least 10 stores that sell apple machines within a 30 min drive. Take that upto an hour and theres many music shops that stock apple computers, loads of places :)

Worst case for me though, is a 90min train trip into london, but to be honest, i wouldn't fancy carrying a big iMac box on the underground

That said, if he lives oop norf theres a lot less apple related activity, at least in my experience :(

His userinfo says Durham, not a huge amount there, but Newcastle is so very close.
You only need one PC world, or John Lewis, or Argos or Comet or Currys. I bet I could find 10 places at least in the Metro Centre

I know and that is now what I fear, I cancelled the order after speaking to a very unhelpful member of phone support and since I got home from work at 8:30 and noticed my RAM and external hdd had arrive I’m already having second thoughts

But to order from apple now would mean I would be looking at some time in November for a delivery date

Different strokes I guess, you must be ok with the window OS?
The windoz os is no way in the same league as the Mac.
The dell hardware may "look" good to some but is not a mac.
I have the Iphone and and some older ipods, the new touch is a misstep imo, with no hardware volume control as on the iphone.
The zune:rolleyes:
So I don't know how long it will be, but by January of next year or so you'll be wishing you bought the mac when the infestation of Virises and malware start to bend the dell over:(

Zune...LOL

What do you call a group of Zune users?

A small circle jerk where everyone's "squirting" each other!

Thank you! I'll be here all night!
